4 out of 5 eggsGood USB 3.0 expansion

Pros: 7 USB 3.0 with 2 that are internal

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Too get the best out of this device I upgraded the firmware of the VIA chip 811 as well as the driver and it is now rock solid

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked at USB 2.0 speeds under Linux using USB2.0 devices connected to a USB 3 hub.

Cons: Windows drivers won't load at all, neither from Windows update or the drivers provided.

Other Thoughts: I was using this controller to run some tests under Linux. I was hoping that running USB 2 devices off of a USB 3 hub and controller would increase performance After completing the tests over the course of about a month, I put my Windows hard drive back in the computer, and the Windows drivers won't load. Of course, I'm now outside of the return/exchange period so I'm stuck with something that didn't do what I was hoping for under Linux, and doesn't work at all under Windows.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great for me

Pros: -Fills the need I had for 2 internal ports for a USB 3.0 Card Reader
-Beaucoup external ports
-Good luck, so far, with Orico brand products

Cons: Minor con/item of note: With the tight fit of 3 of the 5 external ports, hopefully you're plugging in mainly cables

Other Thoughts: Looking at the reviews, it appears I got one of the working ones. Of course, it replaced a USB 3.0 add-on card of another brand that died, so we'll see. I didn't have any issues with installation and I already had the VIA XHCI drivers installed (from the card it replaced), so it worked without a hitch. 5 eggs for so far, so good.

4 out of 5 eggsTHOUGHT it was junk

Pros: Price, # of ports, etc.... Works fine, AFTER I got the Latest Drivers from http://www.oricoonline.us/drive.aspx?did=48

with Win7 64 bit, the drivers on CD would not even finish installation program...

Cons: Had to go hunt down drivers

Other Thoughts: not a bad item, just annoys me when i have to do something the company SHOULD have already handled.... and that sick feeling I had for a couple days that I had bought something Cheap and JUNK - bothers me - LOL

3 out of 5 eggsThird review update

Pros: Device works and provides faster USB speeds for older computers.

Cons: The adapter lacks a boot ROM and PLOP Boot Manager only supports USB 2.0. Reportedly they are working on adding USB 3.0.

For some people physical installation may require a simple modification described in an earlier review.

A number of reviewers have reported that the device died after a few days and, for a brief period, I thought mine had died also. Resolving device conflicts solves the problem.

Other Thoughts: After my adapter quit working and the drivers disappeared from Device Manager I discovered that if I disconnected my optical drives and rebooted the adapter came back to life and worked perfectly. I'll search for a solution so that all my devices will work in harmony but for now the adapter has priority.

Reviewers who complain about their inability to find drivers should read some reviews here. The most recent drivers are at Via-Labs.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE WIN 7 OR ABOVE!

Pros: NONE

Cons: There are no device drivers. My computer can't find the drivers. I spent over 7 hours trying to make this work! Hopefully Newegg takes this back and never sells this device again!

1 out of 5 eggsTime waster

Pros: Looks pretty

Cons: Fastest slot to put it in is the open x16 and that seems to confuse the system. Boot time with SDD went from 10 sec to a couple minutes. I sometimes have to unplug the HDMI cable and plug back in to get boot.

Other Thoughts: Just get a USB 3.0 hub and plug it into the existing 3.0 on your mobo.
Took forever to find drivers. The ones on disk and Orico site were useless.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work

Pros: Tech support in China does respond to E-mail inquiries.

Cons: The PVU3-502U was installed in a Win7 Ultimate 64-bit machine with aux power connector connected. Windows recognized the presence of the card but could not find drivers. The driver setup on both the included disc or downloaded from the Orico website says it can't find a supported product. If the driver is installed from device manager and the disc or downloaded folder is searched in either case Windows says it can't find a compatible driver.
I tried installing in a different Win8 machine with the same results.

Other Thoughts: Returned item to Newegg for replacement, but they instead opted to refund.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth it

Pros: Looks pretty

Cons: Does not work

Other Thoughts: May work eventually, but I have ZERO tolerance for devices that do not ship with the proper drivers, let alone HAVE NO WORKING DRIVERS ON THE WEBSITE!!

4 out of 5 eggsHad To Modify Card

Pros: This is my second review and I'm no longer so critical.

Well made except for the common physical installation issues where if seated well in the MB slot the bracket can't be attached to the case.

Cons: Had to spend time modifying the PCB to enable good physical installation.

Other Thoughts: If physical installation is a problem the solution is to remove two screws holding the bracket on and then use a knife point to elongate the top mounting PCB hole so that it is closer to the card's edge. Replace the bracket and the fit will be improved.

Go to Via-Labs for the latest driver which is V4.50A 63.38MB at this date. After physical installation and providing Molex power simply boot the computer and run the Via-Labs installer
