1 out of 5 eggsLooks Good doesn't install

Pros: None really.

Cons: It doesn't install because it does not have signed drivers for win8. If you use win8 this is not the product for you.

Other Thoughts: Looks good

3 out of 5 eggsCouldn't get it working

Pros: Board is the small type of PCI-e.

Cons: I could not get this device to operate (under Windows 7). It came with a driver cd; the appropriate driver was not clearly labeled. I finally figured out which one it should be from the small printing on the box. Still couldn't get it working :-/

Other Thoughts: Maybe it wasn't compatable with the larger pci-e bus? It fit and *should* have worked I thought... it would help if the drivers were better.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works but install wasn't easy

Pros: The unit seems to work well. Can't tell you transfer speeds accurately since it's connected to an older docking station (which has support for USB2 max and eSata) and the dock station has a Sata-II HDD on it. No errors transferring data. Nice and small, not a big footprint in the case.

Cons: It is a pain to set up! First the instruction manual is broken english (like the description for this item). Next the data included in the included disk is cryptic in that it has directories for all sorts of devices non-evident to the unit I purchased. Luckily I opened an excel file included and although the headers were in Chinese, I matched the row of my model # with "Asmedia 106X". Went to that directory, and you need a RAR (like pkzip) software to open the file up. Within the file is a readme.txt file. Reading through, you have to either have your system in RAID mode or AHCI mode for it to recognize your unit. Had to reboot, go to bios and set this, I found it still did not recognize the new device. Went back in to the readme.txt file and read I had to create a disk, reboot and install using the F6 mode. I was a bit upset by now, about 2 hours in. I decided to try the Setup.exe file without doing this. Boom, it worked, it installed and recognized. Not sure why all the extra instructions but the setup.exe worked.
FWIW, I have a 64 Bit Win 7.0 installation.

Other Thoughts: This unit is small and looks to be well made, even has a secondary back plate for other applications. The english is mediocre on this but you can make out what it's trying to say. Not sure how the others units out there are but prior to purchasing, this did look well built and it may be, time will tell (especially since I'm the Guinnea Pig being the first to buy). One thing to consider is that you could get one with a USB 3.0 installed, wish I had done that since this is solely eSata and no extra eSata ports inside (another thing to consider)
