2 out of 5 eggsBasically functional but a bit flaky

Pros: Seems to support USB 3.0 transfer speeds.

Cons: Does not charge iPads at all, seems to try to charge iPhone sometimes, not sure if it does or not (despite the big bulky wall-wart transformer). Crashed and required reboot when plugging/unplugging devices, not good for an embedded installation with this reliability issue.

5 out of 5 eggsOrico 7 Port USB 3.0 Hub with VL812 chipsets

Pros: On/Off switch is nice. I don't like having my USB hub powered on all the time. Previous two USB 3.0 hubs didn't have this. Heavy, and really thick plastic with nicely placed rubber feet to keep it from moving round. Nice long USB 3.0 connection cable. Dual Via VL812 chips to keep the throughput up.

Cons: Price. Even for all it's features, I don't know where companies get that a USB 3.0 hub needs to cost this much.

Other Thoughts: I've had three previous USB 3.0 hubs. My first USB 3.0 hub was an Orico, but the chipset in that one was a little flaky. Next up was a Rosewill that didn't work well with some drives. Previous to this was a Tek Republic with a Renassis chipset that didn't play well with some of my USB 3.0 Seagate drives.

I decided to give this Orico one a shot because it has the newer VL-812 chips (x2), and has the on/off switch that I like. So far, after testing it with everything, it seems to work well with all my Seagate external USB 3.0 drives, and plays nicely with my motherboards eSATA controller which the Tek Republic hub started having an issue with.

Very pleased so far. Giving the best performance of any of the USB 3.0 hubs that I have had so far, including the original Orico I had a year and a half ago.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Solid build, all USB devices plug in firm. Decent space between ports.

Cons: None, I wanted this to have its own power supply because I knew it would run better and it does.

Other Thoughts: You need or want a 3.0 hub, I would recommend this one.

5 out of 5 eggsI had problems - Orico resolved them - READ ON, PLEASE

Pros: ***** I returned this item ******
So why the 5 eggs?

Orico Tech Support is excellent these days. They have changed, in case you have read derogatory comments about them in the recent past.

Orico tech support pounced on my RMA request. A couple of dozen emails later, they have taught me the ins and outs of USB 3.0 hubs vs cards in relation to which mobos.

I ended up buying their 5/7 port PCI card which worked flawlessly right out of the box.

They even stated that another vendor's card should co-exist with theirs. Great outfit to deal with.

In the long run, this was a GREAT purchase even though I had to be taught a thing or to. (Somewhat humbling to a know-it-all like me.)

Thanks, ORICO!

Yes, I would definitely buy from them again.

Oh, in fact, I did.

Cons: I did have to swap it out for another of their products but ended up happier than a GEICO customer.

4 out of 5 eggsAll in all a great product

Pros: I'm really glad I got this. I use it on my iMac, which only has 4 USB Ports, and I require a lot more than that. It does just what it's supposed to, and has given me no trouble.

Cons: None come to mind, I haven't had any compatibility issues or any problems whatsoever.
