1 out of 5 eggsIdeal Premise, Lacking Execution

Pros: Packaging was pristine. The manual having English is a plus.

Cons: While this drive worked extremely well with my 2.5" drive, when I tried accessing my 3.5" hard drive, neither my laptop (ASUS X502CA, Windows 8.1) nor the other desktop computer in the house (an iMac using Boot Camp to run Windows 7) are able to access the drive reliably. I'm constantly getting the USB disconnect once it is recognized and then it keeps switching over. Considering that I was planning on using this to get stuff off my boot drive before I reformat it, this is a very bad thing.

Other Thoughts: As the reviewer below has stated. the numerous reviews singing praises about this unit makes me believe that this is a rare defect. I would be willing to do various software and hardware troubleshoots beyond those listed in the User Manual in order to fix this. I just hope that, in the end, this issue will be able to solve itself.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on Arrival

Pros: None

Cons: Dead on Arrival
- to elaborate in detail I will first explain how I understand the dock station to work. After connecting the power and usb cables into your outlet and computer, it will install different kinds of drivers automatically. If the drivers are installed correctly, the LED will remain blue (If I understand the product correctly, blue just means it is doing nothing besides waiting for a HDD to be connected.) Once I connected my 3.5 HDD into the dock, the LED turns purple-ish, quickly phasing in and out of blue and purple (Basically, purple LED means it receiving and sending files from the HDD).

Now that we kinda know how the product works, I will move onto the problem. The HDD constantly gets connected and disconnected (or gets mounted and unmounted), making it impossible to be used. Although it isn't "Dead on Arrival" in the sense that the power doesn't turn on, it still remains useless because the product itself is defective. I tried browsing the web for a newer driver (I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, and I also tried it on a WIndows Vista) but couldn't find anything useful.

Other Thoughts: All in all, if anyone finds a way to fix the problem, either by software or troubleshooting the hardware, let me know so I can put it to use. I know that I must have gotten unlucky with this defective one since many other reviews state that it is a fine product.

1 out of 5 eggsComplete Junk

Pros: Love the idea - a simple and easy hard drive dock to test hard drives and reformat.
Cheap... maybe too cheap.

Cons: Arrived DOA. Exterior is in pristine condition, however it continually disconnects the device, even without a drive attached. I've tried both USB 3.0 and 2.0 to no avail. It's completely useless.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from this device! It's not worth the hassle.

5 out of 5 eggsUseful Product

Pros: I purchased this Jan 30, 2014 so That I could format and install Windows 7 Pro on a spare laptop hard drive. Worked great. I now have it connected to my desktop and am using it for backup. It currently has a 1 TB drive and works great. I would recommend this to anyone that has both 2.5 and 3.5 inch drives and may want to interchange them between laptop and desktop. I have 2 old Windows XP systems and don't have a clue what is installed on the hard drives, but with this product it will be a piece of case to find out.

Cons: Price - went from $19.99 - to $25.00 and that is supposed to be a $49.99 mark down. It is worth the $19.99 and I'll pay $25 but that's pushing it.

Other Thoughts: I can recommend this, as I have had good luck with the one I have, but I always look at all the reviews, before I decide to buy. Ignore the nits, but watch out for early life failures.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well but Hot

Pros: Initializes and works very well.
Decent speed for external
Form factor is ideal for some uses
USB 3

Cons: Drive gets very hot

Other Thoughts: I have tried a couple drives in it and each one of them has become very hot, almost too hot to swap. Not sure if a lower RPM drive would fare better. I am sure a 2.5" drive would be fine, but I wish there was some airflow channels on the underside of the drive. Just something to keep in mind if you are planning to run it 24x7

Pros: Wow this dock must be the best dock on the planet because as soon as I bought it, my friend borrowed it before I unboxed it and he has had it almost a month now and still hasn't returned it so it must be amazing!!!

Cons: The only con i can think of is that I haven't actually got to use the product yet. :(

Other Thoughts: I prob should have bought two...

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: Plug it in to a USB3 port and enjoy fast transfer speeds. Great price for it's capabilities. Very convenient.

Cons: No cons

Other Thoughts: I have been taking apart an external hard drive case and reassembling it when I needed to transfer data. Now I can just pop a drive into the tray. So much easier.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for 4TB Linux and Windows

Pros: -4TB works under Linux and Windows
-drive sits in open air, can dissipate heat

Cons: none yet, just got it

Other Thoughts: Other SATA-USB adaptors I have, which are admittedly a couple years old, didn't work with a recently purchased 4TByte drive under linux (Raspberry Pi and x86 PC), even when they did under Windows. This one does. This may be a matter of updated firmware on recent models, I don't know.

2 out of 5 eggsQuestionable product

Pros: Once they start working they so far are pretty good. Show up pretty quickly once you can get them to powder up. Tried with a friends 500gb drive, and one worked great. The other however was DOA! Had to open it up and bypass the switch. Once I did that it worked great too.

Cons: Biggest problem, was that one came with a DOA switch. Like said above had to open it up, and bypass the switch. I have a multi switch under my monitor, so the switch is no real big deal for me. Plus it would have almost cost me as much to send the DOA unit back, as it cost. Not really happy with the quality switches they use in them.

Other Thoughts: If the manufacturer was to send me a new switch for the DOA unit that I could R&R the switch ( has to be soldered in) but that is easy. If that happens, I will give them both ( I bought 2 ) a re evaluate them once I transfer the two drives my MB won't recognize into them and actually spend some time using them. But again the re-evaluation will hinge on a replacement switch. If not, then my evaluation remains at two eggs!
