4 out of 5 eggsBest in price class

Pros: Great specs for the price
Overall good tablet

Cons: Short Battery Life
Company inflates some specs

Other Thoughts: I was looking for a cheap but decent android tablet to play around with and hack, and I kept coming back to this after doing research. It shipped with Android 4.0.3, but the company provides a pretty easy to run update to 4.1.1. It does default to chinese, but was not to difficult to set it to English, and it is ALL in english, no left over chinewe here or there. The only issue I have with this tablet is that Onda says it has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. In reality, it has 878.5 MB RAM, 914.6 MB of Internal storage, and the rest is partitioned out as a 5503.7 MB partition, for a grand total of about 6.5 GB storage. As it allows for the addition of up to a 32 GB SD card (which it reports as external SD card) this is not a huge issue. Overall, if you are looking for a tablet with a great display, good specs, that takes a little bit of work to get going, this one is for you.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Great, Not Good, Passable as Average

Pros: Dual core 1.2ghz stock (1.5ghz with software boost); Fairly responsive; Alright resolution; 1G RAM; Updatedable to 4.1 (Jelly Bean); SD expandable; Gameable device; Cost

Cons: Short battery life (3000 mAh lasts roughly 3-5 hours); Short micro usb cable; Only 900mb internal memory, the rest acts as an SD storage; loaded with Chinese apps; Some apps don't work or struggle; Bad camera (expected); Weak wifi connection (My rooms practically right underneath the router and only get 2-3 bars out of 5)

Other Thoughts: Got two of these; one had a much better wifi reliability (didn't lag/disconnect on apps as much), the other came with a horrible micro usb cable that would charge a third as slow as the other cable. One came with dead pixels. Both were obviously opened in order to change the language to English but little testing or other modification seems to have been done.

Have yet been able to test the mini HDMI output so I can't comment on that.

Dolphin Browser seems to work best.

The tablet can be in English, the only thing in Chinese left is the apps that you can't take out unless you root.

Overall, this tablet does the basics with some disappointments but with decent specs. I, however, wouldn't consider this MY tablet. Bought it for less techy people anyways.

2 out of 5 eggsLook for another brand

Pros: The screen is beautiful. Comparable to Kindle HD. The price is excellent.

Cons: Camera is BAD!!! It is very, very grainy. The response time when you touch the screen seems to lag. Netflix works MAYBE 20% of the time. Wifi lags bad. Camera doesn't work with Oovoo or Skype

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these and wanted so much to love these but have been nothing but disappointed. I am not one to only write bad reviews but this product does. The camera does not work at all with Skype or Oovoo. Each service blames the Onda. The camera itself is AWEFUL, so this may be the problem. Netflix plays but no audio. Netflix also blames the Onda. The kids like them to play little games like Angry Birds and such but these things should do SOOOO much more. I have calls into Onda to see their response, but nothing yet. I will most likey return these and get the Lenovo for the extra $15.

I will post again after speaking to Onda, but as of now buyer beware. If a deal seems to good to be true, it usually is. This product is no exception.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome 7" Tablet

Pros: Screen is beautiful.
Fast and responsive.
Loads webpages fast.
Works with Netflix.

Cons: Chinese on startup.
Preinstalled Chinese apps.

Other Thoughts: This is my second 7" tablet and it is WAY better than my last. My other tablet is a Generic android MID 7" that different brands sell like dragontouch and the aluratech at107f.

The IPS screen is really really nice looking and bright and vibrant. Way better than the standard screen. One con is that a bright ips screen will drain your battery faster, turn down the brightness to save battery life.

The A9 dual core cpu is amazing compared to the single core A8. The difference is night and day. This thing has no input lag which drove me crazy on the old tablet. Also this thing loads webpages just as fast as a smartphone now, the old tablet was much slower.

Another big plus is that it uses a standard mini-usb charger. Also has a screen protector pre-installed.

The app store works and the system is not rooted. This is GOOD because you can use netflix/flixster/etc. You cannot use them if your system is rooted.

Cons is that it was in Chinese, but it is really easy to change to English. Also has some preloaded chinese apps, like the manual, that are all in chinese. It would be nice to know what the are at least, but they aren't necessary. I know one is the manual and one is a browser. The apps do NOT drain your battery, this isn't windows xp.

Only other con is a android 4.0 con. You can't force the internet to stay on at all times. so when the screen goes into power save the internet will soon follow. It makes it bad for things like pandora or receiving e-mails without constantly checking it. This isn;t a tablet issue but an android issue.

5 out of 5 eggsOnda V711 Excellent Value

Pros: Good response on most apps, no jerks, no hesitation, excellent response with Angry Birds, battery last for 5-6 hrs, but this is what is advertised, generally what I expected. Compatible with any app I have installed. Good resolution, can clock at MAX CPU 1.5 dual without issues.

Cons: Factory shipped with Japanese apps, just disable or uninstall. Can not adjust video I/O without kernel update, but CPU will clock to max without any mods

Other Thoughts: Overall excellent tablet for the money, fits perfect in back pocket with 7" size.
Included IPS screen works great for side viewing, as advertised.

1 out of 5 eggsPass...

Pros: HDMI works well. It's HDMI-C (mini, too big for a phone, square connector), so you'll have to get an adapter to use the HDMI.

I got it as a media player, so I didn't use as much electricity as a computer when using software like Pandora, Netflix, MXPlayer, etc.

Cons: My biggest gripe with this is that the built-in HDD is NOT 8GB. This may be splitting hairs, but NO WHERE does it advertise that the internal HDD is ONLY 1GB. That's a HUGE difference on an android tablet, since the on board HDD is the most valuable memory space. I have two of these, and they are listed as Onda V711 on the actual tablet. It does come with 7GB HDD, 1GB is internal and 6 GB is on the SD card. It actually makes me wonder if it really is a dual-core..

The kernel is in Chinese. (The manual is also in Chinese, but that probably doesn't matter for most users.) If you do a hard reset on your device, then everything will be in Chinese, so make sure to figure out how to switch it to english before you do that. Unless you root your device, you will have a lot of Chinese programs that you won't be able to get rid of, constantly draining your battery.

Gmail didn't work, which seems essential if you're going to use a android tablet. I installed it first thing, and it never even opens. The market version of hulu doesn't work either.

The actual tablet is unresponsive and seems to react about a second after I touch anything, so usually I hit a button twice, resulting in weird effects. (It's advertised as capacitive on Onda's site..)

For clarification, there is only one 0.3 Megapixel front camera.

It doesn't seem to hold a charge well. It seemed to last 1.5 hours when watching a video.

Other Thoughts: For the most part, it's like any other tablet.
