4 out of 5 eggsTaking Advantage

Pros: The PCIe 1x slot wasn't being used at all on my Dell Dimension E521. It didn't have USB 3.0 and it feels so sweet to finally use my USB 3.0 external HDD to its full potential.

Cons: I think this device is preventing my computer from staying in sleep/standby (low power) mode when it is not in use. I select sleep and the computer instantly resumes from sleep. That never happened before.

I wish this device was just as long as my DVD drives because I had to reconfigure the power chords. Right now it is an awkward setup where one DVD drive cannot be powered. I guess I need to buy a Molex extension chord.

Other Thoughts: Does this device require a minimum PSU wattage? My PSU outputs a maximum of 305W and 300W are already being consumed by my GFX card (no external power connections, the GFX card is being powered by the motherboard).

4 out of 5 eggsGreat functionality, poor assembly

Pros: Does what it says

Cons: Power connection is very poorly designed, poorly assembled

Other Thoughts: As others have noted, the power connection is very difficult to work with. The pins aren't aligned well and kept getting pushed in. I eventually had to open it (tip for anyone else that does: don't remove those screws on the back, they only hold the power connector in place, they don't hold the case together) and use pliers to push the pins back out; while it was opened I noticed its internal USB connection to the card reader board was loose, so I reseated that as well.

Once I got it all together, though, it worked great. I can get 80 MB/s reading off the CF card I use in my camera, and similar read speeds from a cheap USB3 flash drive I picked up.

5 out of 5 eggsdoes what it is supposed to do

Pros: Single point of contact on motherboard (PCIe) as opposed other model that require PCIe and usb2 connections. Solid build, usb3 hits the speeds its supposed to. easy set up on XP and Win7. No where near as buggy as others I have tried. Received the item faster than my other items in same order that were from Newegg, didn't expect that.

Cons: Price is high IMHO

5 out of 5 eggsSweet Card Reader, Hard to Find PCI-E

Pros: This thing rocks, all the negative reviews i have read seem to be user error or incorrect installation steps. I bought this for 2 reasons only, I needed a pci-e 1x card reader due to limitations in my sunbean UFO clear acrylic case and right angle 19 pin usb 3.0 attachment off my MSI 990FXA-GD80 V2. The connector being right angle causes the female pin to hit the case wall. Not an error on anyones part just an unfortunate case size issue.

Any ways, this card reader works without a hitch, only needed it for a CF card from my canon E0S 20D, now i find myself LOVING the micro-sd card reader and obviously the plethora of options covering basically all memory cards.

The Read/Write speeds are all up to par with the rating of whatever device is plugged into it.

The molex power connector is a bit snug so make sure if possible plug this in before screwing into the 5.25 bay, the length of the card reader is short and the molex on one side making it difficult/impossible to plug in once installed depending on case design.

I have never had a BSOD from this device, or for that matter, at all since using Win 7 Ultimate, MSI 990FXA-GD80 V2, M4 Crucial 120gb SSD as boot drive, and a Samung Spinpoint 1TB for data backup.

Included Drivers installed without a hitch, device has worked beautifully since its initial installation.

I was very weary of this product seeing as how it is a "First From Asia" product, and the claim was that it would ship from overseas. However, It arrived within a few business days straight from neweggs California shipping facility. All of my worries were set to ease. Thanks Again Newegg for your amazing shipping times!!

Yet another reason i only buy from newegg, shipping, customer service, etc.

If you need a pci-e card reader like i did for case size issues, connector issues ETC, BUY THIS NOW!. As you will see there are very few options for a card reader with these kinds of connections with pci-e interface.

I also took off the mobo expansion case slot cover as my cases slot cover was a better grade metal and less flimsy. not a pro or con, just a fact.

Enjoy this device as I have!

Cons: still none

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Has 3 USB 3 ports which allows my external hard drive to run faster, reads all of my camera cards, easy to install.

Cons: Have to use an SD adapter to read Micro SD cards even though there is a slot labeled for Micro SD.

Other Thoughts: My computer only accepts half height cards so I had to remove the back plate on the PCI adapter. Also needed a 4 pin Molex to SATA adapter because my computer does not have Molex connecters and the card reader only has a 4 pin Molex Power connector.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card Reader, Once Installed

Pros: Even though HooToo warns that this card reader's driver's might cause BSODs (which in no way means it's certain it will), it works just fine with my ASUS P9X79 WS MOBO which has two USB 3.0 ports on the rear I/O panel and a USB 3.0 header onboard. When I bench tested the reader, I just set it on top of my computer case, plugged in the PCIe connector and ran a cable from the PSU to the four pin Molex connector on the back of the reader. When I fired up the computer, the power LED came on. After installing the drivers from the disk that came with the reader, the reader was able to read SD cards with no problems and the USB 3.0 ports were also able to read my USB 2.0 thumb drives (I don't have any USB 3.0 sticks yet). It still works great after installing it into the case.

Cons: What killed a star for the rating was the power LED and the four pin Molex connector on the back of the card reader (mostly the latter). The power LED is much too bright. I managed to use a Sharpie marker to block some of the light but the LED is recessed enough to make getting at it with the Sharpie a bit difficult. That alone wasn't enough to cost a star.

The four pin Molex connector on the back of the reader was the biggest source of trouble. The pins are a bit on the fat side, the ends too blunt, and were slightly out of alignment, making it difficult to plug in the PSU cable, even when the reader hadn't been installed in the case yet. Once installed in the case, connecting the PSU cable to the reader was a nightmare. It took me over an hour and a half, working up a sweat, and losing some skin due to the tight quarters before I was finally able to get the connector plugged into the socket. I'm so glad I bench tested it first; if I had installed it first, then found out it didn't work (thankfully, it did work!), I would have really been furious. At least I know it will never pull out accidentally. HooToo really needs to do something about that Molex socket.

Other Thoughts: If it wasn't for that ornery Molex socket, I would have rated this five stars.

4 out of 5 eggsWorking Now!

Pros: Does what it claims to do.
Sturdy card reader for the front of case
great one piece solution for USB 3.0

Cons: didn't work out of the box
took me two weeks to figure out how to make it work
better quality control could help
website not user friendly

Other Thoughts: I wanted this to speed up a flash drive to USB 3.0 speed. I also didn't have an onboard card reader. This seemed like a great solution and I really wanted it to work but I kept getting a driver error (code 10) device could not be started. I tried updating the bios as the support site suggested. I tried other updates for drivers and controllers. I was ready to send it back when I reallized the bracket that holds it in place on the motherboard was bend ever so slightly not allowing it to seat properly. I used pliers on it to straighten it out giving it the needed room to seat. Now it works great! Hope this saves someone else two weeks of trouble shooting.

5 out of 5 eggsReplacement

Pros: After troubleshooting with the tech rep, the HT-CR001 was faulty. HooToo shipped out a replacement product and the unit works excellent.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is an update for the review that I posted on 3/21/13.

1 out of 5 eggsRead the fine print

Pros: what this offers is unique, three usb 3.0 forts on the front plus usb 3.0 card reader? fantastic?
but there is one HUGE problem

Cons: if you mobo already has usb 3.0 this will cause problems/not install, even manufacturer says so.

Four hours later, trying everything (win 7 x64), I find this out. This is an UPGRADE ONLY device, can not (or probably won't) supplement existing 3.0 capabilities..what a shame!

Other Thoughts: fix that problem and this is a 5 star for sure. Even today it appears usb 3.0 is a developing technology.....

Pros: Installed easily - I used the drivers off the HooToo web site - I normally do this to have the latest ones. Note: Don't forget to plug in the 4-pin power lead - it won't work without it!!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Intel i7 system
