1 out of 5 eggsShoddy VIA chipset. Complete waste of time.

Pros: Comes with half-height adapter.

Cons: I installed this on an ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution motherboard running Windows 7 x64. It has been a solid system for many years and still performs well. Now I wanted to upgrade it to USB 3.0.

Unfortunately, when the card was installed, my system locked up shortly after boot. Furthermore, none of the drivers--from the CD, the HooToo website, and the newest VL805-Q6 from VIA--would install unless the card was present.

I managed to stop the lockups by setting a Group Policy: gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions, and adding PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3483 (this USB card). That stopped my system from trying to access the device and thus lockup or crash/reboot.

Despite the group policy, my system kept trying to install a new PCI-to-PCI Bridge device whenever this USB card was installed. Hardware ID indicated this was actually the nVidia NF200 bridge chip on my motherboard, despite having all my motherboard drivers already installed for many years. I could not find NF200 drivers online, but upgrading to the latest GeForce driver (even though I was only 1 version behind) seemed to resolve this. However, I don't believe the GeForce contains NF200 drivers, so maybe this card just triggered the bridge and drivers I already had installed?

Regardless, I was now able to finally install this card's drivers. All total over 2 days, I spent 14 hours installing and uninstalling and reinstalling the various driver versions, manually deleting the installed drivers because multiple incompatible versions running on the system, one brief moment where the card could see a USB drive but not a card reader then failed again on reboot, and several BSOD on boot requiring me to boot from CD and delete ViaHub3.sys just to get back into my system.

I finally gave up.

Other Thoughts: I went back to NewEgg, ordered a USB 3,0 card with an Etron EJ188 chip instead (SYBA SY-PEX20140), installed the new card, installed the drivers, up and running with USB 3.0 in about 5 minutes.

Avoid the pathetic VIA SuperSpeed VL805-Q6 chipset!!!

1 out of 5 eggsHooToo HT-PC002

Pros: none for this particular card

Cons: Useless because installation CD does not work. No driver, just installer program. Downloaded driver from HooToo website can't be opened by Windows 7.

Other Thoughts: I have one HooToo HT-PC200 that works properly in another computer, but this unit is zilch!

4 out of 5 eggsDecent card with horrible bracket

Pros: - Average transfer speeds of 60 MB/s.
- Consistent speeds.
- internal 19 Pin USB 3.0 header
- 2 USB 3.0 ports
- Works fine
- Shipping time was acceptable.

Cons: - Horrible bracket. I had to bent it to make the bracket fit without leaving a gaping hole in my case. Other option would be to drill a new hole on the side of the bracket

Other Thoughts: I hope the card lasts. This is my first HooToo product.

5 out of 5 eggspci-e add on card

Pros: Excellent does everything as stated. Used the 20 pin connector
to power up hub on card reader. My Asus MB P6x58d-e
did not come the a 20 pin connector on the board. I ended up with 6 additional USB 3.0 ports.

Cons: None so far...........

Other Thoughts: needed both Molex & Sata power cables to get everything working. Very pleased........

4 out of 5 eggsgood usb3 card for the money

Pros: I have not fully tested the max transfer speed of this card, but it definitely runs faster than USB2. The only limitation that I have experienced is due to the read/write speed of the flash drive I plugged into it. transferring to an actual hard drive using a USB3 external case seems pretty fast.

Cons: none. good price, easy to install, decent transfer speeds

1 out of 5 eggsFatal Flaw - usb mouse nonfunctional

Pros: Works with flash drives, etc

Cons: Does not work with a usb wireless mouse.
The cursor sticks for almost two seconds. This should not happen in a correctly designed board. As a result, I suspect there may be other issues that have not surfaced resulting from this flaw. (I have seen this before, as I have done hardware debugging for a BIOS company).

5 out of 5 eggsGet USB 3.0 Speeds on older hardware

Pros: Works exactly as advertised! Small card, easy install, allows use of USB 3.0 devices on older hardware. Can't go wrong if you're looking to add USB 3.0 support to an older machine.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Does require a molex connector and drivers for use with Windows 7

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: see other thoughts

Cons: didn't work

Other Thoughts: I was able to use an Inateck USB 3.0 PCIe Card with 2 external and a 19-pin header with no problems. Maybe I got a dud from Hoo Too. And slight correction, my case is a Thermaltake Soprano Snow.

5 out of 5 eggsPlays well with Linux

Pros: Good price on sale. Works with Linux. Now comes with extras.

Cons: Somewhat flimsy bracket, low profile clearance might be dicey.

Other Thoughts: It's plug-and-play with Linux (with Ubuntu Server 12.04LTS, kernel 3.2.0-64 at least) no fuss, no muss. Just installed, booted and used - easy as cake.

Copied a couple of isos to the Seagate backup drive to test and compare the onboard 2.0 with the new card, I'll let the numbers speak for themselves:
Onboard 2.0 - (942 MB) copied, 23.7082 s, 39.7 MB/s
This card - (928 MB) copied, 5.25258 s, 177 MB/s
That should speed backups considerably.

In addition to the listed contents, the one I received (early June 2013) also shipped with a low profile bracket and, as a sign of the times, a SATA-->Molex adapter. I don't own nor am I familiar with low profile cases, but it seems to me that the clearance on the power connector could be a bit of a problem. The edge of board lines up with the top of the low profile bracket, and the power connector is positioned just like the picture, so you may want to take that into consideration if you intend to use it in a slim case.

1 out of 5 eggscaused Windows not to start

Pros: Cheap, good reviews, including someone who used to get front USB 3.0 ports to work on a new case, which was my goal.

Cons: Once card was installed, Windows failed to boot, requiring repair/restore. Tried all available PCIe slots with same result. Have to RMA this unfortunately.

Other Thoughts: Dell XPS 435MT transplanted into Thermaltake
Sonata Snow case, Antec VP450, 12 GB RAM, Windows Ultimate 64bit
