5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

This review is from: HooToo HT-UH006 Compact SuperSpeed USB 3.0 7-Port Hub w/ Latest VIA VL812 Chipset, 5V/3A Power Adapter, USB 3.0 Cable

Pros: Had it for 6 months, works fine with no problems.

Cons: Havent had any problems with it. Glad to finally find reliable USB products.

Other Thoughts: Its stowed under the desk so i never see it or mess with it much, but it works fine attached to a newer iMac, expanding the usb 3 ports for my external HDs, mouse, other peripherals.

2 out of 5 eggsError prone

This review is from: HooToo HT-UH006 Compact SuperSpeed USB 3.0 7-Port Hub w/ Latest VIA VL812 Chipset, 5V/3A Power Adapter, USB 3.0 Cable

Pros: Speed is good, no difference in read/write speeds compared to connecting a device directly into the native USB port

Cons: LED indicators turn off eventually for connected devices, not an indication of actual connected state
Disconnects external powered 3.5" drives under heavy usage
Entire hub may disconnect even without any load
Not "compact", this hub is in fact quite large

Other Thoughts: This hub worked well at first inspection, I connected four external USB 3.0 external 3.5" drives to it. All were detected correctly and speed tests were impressive. The hub itself is quite large and thick, I would not describe it as compact.

My externals go to sleep on inactivity and spin up under usage, and it seems this doesn't work well with the LED indicators. I noticed quite often, most if not all of the LEDs on the hub would be off, even though all drives were connected and accessible.

All was good for a while, but after continued usage, errors began to show. Under heavy write load in concurrent operations, a drive may disconnect from the hub. The entire hub may also disconnect from my computer randomly, even without any disk usage.

Now to be fair, these scenarios probably only occurred between three to five times each. Meaning in 10 months of ownership, there have been six to ten instances of failure, each time resolved by unplugging everything and reconnecting. May not sound like much this is unacceptable to me. The first few times I tolerated it, chalking it off to bad luck, but the consistency of the errors became very disappointing.

I have since replaced this hub with another brand, no problems so far, but we'll see. This hub has officially become a paperweight though, and I won't be trying another HooToo product.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks fine but has problems

This review is from: HooToo HT-UH006 Compact SuperSpeed USB 3.0 7-Port Hub w/ Latest VIA VL812 Chipset, 5V/3A Power Adapter, USB 3.0 Cable

Pros: It is easy to set up and see it works right away. No driver needed.

Has an optional power adapter, in case the USB 3.0 device draws a lot of current (e.g., external HDD). But it is not required for other devices (such as card readers, etc.)

Cons: The most significant problem is that it fails to be recognized when a connected Windows 7 machine wakes up from standby. You literally have to unplug the USB 3.0 cable to the computer and re-connect before the hub is recognized again. That makes it hardly usable, as the primary reason you have a multi-port hub is to be able to have it always connected to the host. Granted that re-connect the USB 3.0 can be just as easy if you just use the end connected to the hub itself, but it is still a hassle.

Other Thoughts: The blue LED light is too bright. I would not mind as much if the LED is green. Also, the power LED for the connectivity to the computer is in red, which is unsettling in itself.

1 out of 5 eggsnon functioning ports

This review is from: HooToo HT-UH006 Compact SuperSpeed USB 3.0 7-Port Hub w/ Latest VIA VL812 Chipset, 5V/3A Power Adapter, USB 3.0 Cable

Pros: it kind of works

Cons: it really doesn't work well, I think it's bad soldering I am going to check the board and see if I can amend it. Multiple ports are not working. At first I thought it was a compatibility issue with my Raspberry Pi, but then I plugged it into my server and on both my USB 2. and 3.0ss. and let's just say I became livid. cause it's well past thirty days... So I am up s creek without a paddle. (Before some Troll assumes that I didn't have the external power plugged in, I did. crawl back under your rock internet trolls)

4 out of 5 eggsFast and Easy

This review is from: HooToo HT-UH006 Compact SuperSpeed USB 3.0 7-Port Hub w/ Latest VIA VL812 Chipset, 5V/3A Power Adapter, USB 3.0 Cable

Pros: Quick Setup, recognized by Win7 and made my Segate Backup drive run so fast I though something was wrong.
Just ordered a second one....

Cons: Power cord is too short. It is less than all other hubs used and I had to make it fit...
Would have been 5 eggs if the cord were longer.

Other Thoughts: This unit replaced another brand that failed after less than a year.

4 out of 5 eggsGood value for the money

This review is from: HooToo HT-UH006 Compact SuperSpeed USB 3.0 7-Port Hub w/ Latest VIA VL812 Chipset, 5V/3A Power Adapter, USB 3.0 Cable

Pros: Excellent price performance ratio. The vast majority of the time they perform flawlessly - for example, I just finished copying a 14TB raid array from one hub to a similar array on another hub. No problems whatsoever.

Cons: They are slightly flaky. About once every two days one of them burps and my Mac thinks it has dropped off line. It gives me a warning message but then re-discovers the hub and all is well. I have three of these hubs and the drop out only happens when I have the hub heavily loaded (at least 5 disk drives on it). Every now and then something hangs solidly and I have to power cycle the hub. Despite this, they are the most reliable of the USB3 hubs I have (I have six hubs altogether).

2 out of 5 eggs4 of 7 USB Stopped after a few weeks

This review is from: HooToo HT-UH006 Compact SuperSpeed USB 3.0 7-Port Hub w/ Latest VIA VL812 Chipset, 5V/3A Power Adapter, USB 3.0 Cable

Pros: nice design....fairly small form factor ...originally liked it until 4 USB don't work anymore...I am only using 3 of 7....so will see how much longer the remaining last.

Cons: stopped working 4 of 7 USB Connections....would not recommend

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: HooToo HT-UH006 Compact SuperSpeed USB 3.0 7-Port Hub w/ Latest VIA VL812 Chipset, 5V/3A Power Adapter, USB 3.0 Cable

Pros: Couldn't tell you.

Cons: Also couldn't tell you, aside from it being dead.

Other Thoughts: There will always be products shipped that are DOA. I seem to be one of those unlucky people. I can't speak to the general quality of the item, but the 1 egg should alert people to the possibility.

4 out of 5 eggsLotsa ports, and BRIGHT!

This review is from: HooToo HT-UH006 Compact SuperSpeed USB 3.0 7-Port Hub w/ Latest VIA VL812 Chipset, 5V/3A Power Adapter, USB 3.0 Cable

Pros: Sturdy construction, power adapter makes running multiple external 2.5" HDDs possible, plenty of ports. Nice long cable.

Cons: The blue LEDs that light up when a port is in use is kind of nice, but they don't have to be so bloody bright! On the other hand, I suppose they make a nice night light.
