It provides extended battery power with the batteries (not included) in the grip and gives you a better, more secure and stable hold on the camera, making it easier to handhold at lower shutter speeds.
The battery pack holds One EN-EL15 rechargeable batteries or 8 AA batteries.
Worst Grip I have purchased
This review is from: Vertical MB D14 Battery Grip Holder MB-D14 For Nikon D600 DSLR Cameras
Cons: Shutter release
Other Thoughts: I rarely review items with only 1 star unless it really deserves it. Unfortunately this item does. I am a professional photographer and have owed grips for several cameras. I have purchased Nikon brand vertical grips as well as off brands before. Obviously the Nikon is unmatched. I purchased my D600 for personal use so I did not want to spend the $$ for a name brand grip. Having purchased off brand with no issues before I purchased this item. The build quality is appropriate for the price. It is plastic but that is what you are paying for so no surprise or issue with that. The HUGE drawback to this item is the shutter release. It is extremely cheap and requires a great deal of force (compared to the cameras release) to trigger. The bigger issue is you are unable to depress the button half way down, recompose and have the camera lock the focus. The button will lock the focus when you initially depress it half way down but if you do not continue to depress it fully it will lose the focus. So there is no way to focus and recompose. This essentially makes the product useless. I will be returning it ASAP.
