The fast, lightweight f/1.8 prime DX-format NIKKOR lens is perfect for low-light conditions, travel, environmental portrait and general photography. Engineered and optimized for use with Nikon DX-format digital SLRs, the lens renders a picture angle approximating the classic normal angle of view of a 50mm lens on a Nikon FX-format digital SLR or a 35mm film camera. The main features of AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G include SWM (Silent Wave Motor), AS (Aspherical lens element), M/A mode (quick and seamless AF to MF switching) and RF (Rear Focusing).

  • newegg Aspherical Lens Element Aspherical lens element minimizes coma and other types of lens aberrations, further improving image integrity.
  • newegg Exclusive Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM) SWM uses ultrasonic traveling waves, which move in a spiral pattern inside the lens barrel, to drive the cylindrical motor that moves the lens elements. This powerful and responsive high-torque motor system enables fast, accurate and quiet autofocus.
  • newegg Rounded 7-blade Diaphragm Rounded 7-blade diaphragm renders more natural appearance of out-of-focus image elements.
  • newegg Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC) SIC enhances light transmission efficiency and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare.
  • newegg Close Focusing to One Foot For creative perspectives and versatility.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat lens!

Pros: Great low light lens for the price. I keep in on most of the time because of the compact size. Best lens in the bag!

Cons: None at that price.

5 out of 5 eggsEvery DX format DSLR needs this lens

Pros: This lens takes tack sharp photos and with the background at the right distance it can produce great bokeh (back ground blur). On a DX format DSLR which would be the D1 series, D100, D40,D50,D60,D70, D70s,D80,D90,D3100/3200,D5100/5200,D7000,D200 and The D300/300s. This lens is actually a 52mm lens. Which is perfect for a "walk around lens". You have to move around when using this lens which means you have to think about how and what your going to put into your photo's. The lens features internal focusing and a metal mount with an O-ring gasket. This lens does have a silent wave motor ( I think that's standard on all Nikon lenses with internal focus motors). But what's not standard is manual override while in AF mode (It does have a switch to completely disable Auto Focus). Just grab the ring and focus if you can't get the result you want AF will automatically stop (AF ring doesn't move while the lens is trying to focus). Overall this lens does focus quick and its almost silent. The Fast 1.8 aperture comes in handy when your backgrounds are close. You can still get that nice blur but it won't be as pretty as say the 50mm 1.8G (I own both lenses). This lens is actually heavier than the 50mm 1.8G but when its mounted to the camera body you wouldn't even know its there. This is a great lens to have in your bag.

Cons: No focus scale. Every prime lens should have one. My 40mm 2.8 DX macro and my 50mm 1.8G both have focus scales why the 35mm doesn't have one will always be a mystery to me.

Other Thoughts: Great lens for those looking for an affordable prime lens. The 50mm 1.8g isn't much more and includes a focus scale. It can also produce silky smooth Bokeh even when you background is close to your subject. However this 35mm is a better bet if you don't do too much portrait pics. Its better suited for everyday photography. This lens won't do marco. If you want an affordable macro lens buy the 40mm 2.8 DX. I have it and love it. But your limited to macro pics of plants. Insects don't like lenses in their faces. Buy the 85mm 3.5 VR DX macro for insect photography. <-- I also have this lens to lol. Yeah I'm really into photography been doing it for 6 years now.

5 out of 5 eggsSo good its a crime

Pros: I have had this lens for over a year now, and it is by far my favorite of all of my DX lenses, and stays on my cameras at least 80% of the time, the other 20% are dedicated macro lens or zooms. Its super fast at F1.8, focuses fast and the pics are super sharp with really good bokeh. Its amazing that Nikon's cheapest AF-S DX prime is also there best. If you have a D40 or a D7000, you owe it to yourself to get this lens.

Cons: I couldn't give it 6 eggs.

OK, so really the only con is that its really only good for DX camera's, so don't waste your time on film or FX camera's like the D700 or D3, you don't spend $2500+ on a camera to run it in DX crop mode, that's like owning a 3 legged race horse.

Other Thoughts: BUY THIS LENS!!! It was the best money I ever spent on a lens.
