5 out of 5 eggsI like this machine

Pros: -Solid Lenovo quality
-Nice size
-Decent Processor
-Good Battery
-Bright Screen
-Upgradable to Windows 8.1 PRO
-Hardware can be upgraded
-Super Easy access to Hardware and cooling system

Cons: I am annoyed by the lack of a HDD activity light.

Other Thoughts: I have upgraded this laptop a bit since getting it. I put in another 4gb DDR3 1600 CAS11. This made a huge difference. I also replaced the APU with a A10-5750m. Next I will replaced the HDD with a SDD.

I bought this for school, I have a video arts class that needs something with so power.

4 out of 5 eggsThe lady likes...

Pros: Customer loved the configuration and the price. She felt that it was professional and handled well.

Cons: Trackpad was less than impressive. It takes some serious time to use effectively (if not frustration free). Cost it an egg, but a small gripe nonetheless.

Other Thoughts: Good deal all around.

4 out of 5 eggsOkay laptop

Pros: The hardware is solid no problems. It is a good machine

Cons: This install of Windows 7 is not right. I'm locked out of several files I should not be and the folder structure is named differently, not what they should be on Win 7. Debating if I should reload the OS.

Other Thoughts: I've had to pull the battery twice when it locks up after waking up from sleep mode. All the problem are with software I think.

DO NOT upgrade to Windows 8 on this computer!!!

5 out of 5 eggsSo good I got 2

Pros: Still stand by thoughts of it being snappy. Very good for normal use. Audio is surprising for a lappy.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: Some with high tech have complained of no Windows 7 key sticker. Bios is slic 2.1 so sticker is not needed - can be reinstalled and activated with a few cmd prompts- also upgraded to ultimate same way (search Mydigitallife forums). Standard tweaking for me is disable restore (useless anyways) and indexing. Have 2 of these and none of the reported problems others are having have shown up. Be sure to download and run norton removal tool for removing there infection- normal uninstall. leaves running processes behind.

5 out of 5 eggsGood performer

Pros: Feels solid, snappy for a laptop without an SSD.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: Good laptop for normal everyday use- not a gamer. Liked it so much I bought another one 1 week after the first. I don't want to be forced to buy a laptop with Windows 8 later. Normal amount of bloatware that has to be removed.

3 out of 5 eggsTouch Typists Steer Clear

Pros: Pros:
-Non-gloss screen - the best for serious word work.
-Matt black finish: it's still a smug magnet but should age better than most glossy finishes
-The 3 USB 3.0 ports are a + (but they should ALL have been!)

Cons: -I've been using this model for less than a month as of this writing, but I am already tending toward agreement with several of the negatives expressed in other reviews: speed is underwhelming; painfully slow boot up; it has hung and crashed several times already; experiencing wi-fi problems (which may not be fully the fault of the machine); the hard drive is pathetically small for a such a big chassis; the click-trackpad is tricky. The right lower corner does nothing on my machine. I had presumed that it would act as the right mouse button.

-Cosmetics: Lenovo is in love with silver-ish trim. My previous E50 had that and - as anyone who carries a lappy around could tell on first sight - the wear shows up soon and makes the unit look old. Just as with indicator lights, Lenovo can't spend the extra nickel for real metal trim, OR, simply stick to ALL black plastic!

-I don't understand the praise I read here for the keyboard. I can touch type and this is the WORST Lenovo keyboard for that purpose that I've yet encountered. (I go back to the IBM Selectric typewriter: a tank with a keyboard you could not kill.) To be sure, even Lenovo's worst "may" be better than the best of some other brands. (The keyboard on my E50 was not bad.) But the E545's is a grave disappointment to me. The keys are spaced too far apart and are too large for my average-size male hands. (Microns matter in typing!) They somehow manage to click and yet feel spongy and actually wobble beneath my fingers. So, even my $5 plug-in keyboard is a great improvement and a must for me. So sad

Other Thoughts: The fault lies not in our stars, dear Brutus....(or something like that).
I realize now that I spent a little too little. $50 more (and a sale) could have meant a considerably higher level of power and quality overall, even from Lenovo. I was fooled twice.

5 out of 5 eggsThinkPad Edge E545 is Solid and Reliable

Pros: Good, writer's keyboard. Solid and reliable laptop. Windows 7 Pro a plus. I own a higher end, more expensive ThinkPad T530 and bought the budget ThinkPad Edge E545 as a backup for a Windows 7 laptop. While the Edge keyboard doesn't have all the bells and whistles and premium screen as does the T530, I find myself using the Edge almost as often and would be happy with it should it ever become my main laptop.

Cons: None yet. I and everyone I work with hates Windows 8 and it's stunted our desire to buy new computers. If you bought this with Windows 8, then it would be a con. Buy it with Windows 7 and make a backup disk as soon as you get it should you need to reinstall the operating system at a later date.

Other Thoughts: Good, writer's keyboard. The Lenovo ThinkPads are good business and everyday laptops with a good reliability track record. So far, the Edge E545 has been a joy to work with.

2 out of 5 eggsNice looking with problems

Pros: Good looking laptop. Decent visuals. Low reflection not glossy on the screen. Not glossy on the case. Good for writing documents and browsing the internet. OK for watching and listening to videos - OK speakers. It's not HD but I knew that a head of time. That is why it works as a writing station - bigger more visible fonts etc.

Cons: The wi-fi interface worked only intermittently. It would stop working and not reconnect unless I shut the system down and let it sit. I set all the power options so as not to let the power manager turn it off - this did not help at all. The latest driver was already installed. I returned the unit to Newegg because of this and ordered a middle of the road Acer with the same screen res and approximate weight but with an Intel I5.

The other con is that the system was under powered but I would have kept it if the wi-fi had worked.

Other Thoughts: SInce I have seen this problem reported in other units by other users I can't recommend it.

2 out of 5 eggsUpdate - still not a good latop

Pros: Same. nice keyboard. Decent Look. Can upgrade. Comes with Windows 7 (you do not want windows 8 without a touch screen, period.). Works great with openSuSe 13.1, not so well with Windows 7 or 8.1

Cons: SLOW. Do yourself a favor uninstall the Lenovo power manager - use windows settings. Lenovo Power manager crashes - causes issues. Should have come with an A8 or A10 processor. The A6 is pathetic on performance (even compared to a 2 year old Thinkpad T410 M520 which is bad). No LED's to minitor Hard Drive, Wan/Lan. This is a joke, since the machine is already slow - you do not know if it is reading the hard drive or hanging.

Other Thoughts: This laptop had potential. The Lenovo software uses Adobe air, which is very bad, crashes, etc. At minimum uninstall the power manager. Install more memory. For the price an only an A6 Lenovo did wrong to the customers with only 4 gigs of ram and an A6 processor. Install 8, better yet 16GB. I have had good luck with the Gskill F3-1600C9D-16GRSL with this laptop. Install a 7200 RPM hard drive, or an SSD if you can afford it. the performance becomes better with both options, and battery is not suffering too much with the 7200 RPM. Basically - buy for Windows 7 since there is no touch screen, then plan on updates - Like memory, hard drive and processor (to an A8 or A10). With that said, this machine is not engineered properly with price point. BTW, I have a degree in Electrical and computer engineering. This is a bad machine for the price.
