1 out of 5 eggsCheap and awful

Pros: Look good, shiny plastic, Denon name emblazoned across the cans seems impressive

Cons: Sound, feel and fit - awful, awful and awful. Material used - cheap plastic that makes terrible scratchy sounds when adjusting the cans, ill-fitting, pain-inducing piece of cheap junk. Save the thirty bucks and look for better choices there for about the same price (Sennheisers are available in the similar price range), or for 20-25 more, go for Klipsch instead.

Other Thoughts: Mistake no. 1 - seeing is not believing, trying is - you need to try them on first before buying them. Nothing beats a real shop for that experience and if you want to pay them back for this service, consider buying it from them.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent, inexpensive, sounds okay

...these produce a nice sound. When first plugged in, it will take a good 4-6 hours of heavy bass frequency break-in time before these become a serious producer of good sound. Once broken in, this headset does offer a great range of sound. I can clearly hear the lows without distortion. Sounds are impactful and gone, as a good sound effect should be.
The mic is effective and very usable.

Cons: After breaking these in, the primary flaw is that the highs are too bright. Some reviewers say that they think that the mids suffer because of the driver size with bass drawing too much. Quite the opposite in my opinion. I think the mids are drowned out by the highs.
Although these are over the ear cans, and they do a decent job of containing produced sound, when on the street or in any noise area (even relatively low noise areas) there is a nasty amplification of sound leaking in through the backs of the headset, filling a quiet moment during listening that is now plagued with oddly reverberating distractions from the outside world.
In addition to the Genre limitations, unfortunately the sound stage created with a quality pair of headphones are just not present. Not that there is a fair comparison of sound quality when comparing these to a set of Audio Technica ATH900's, but as a comparison of the two, the sounds produced through the audio technicas reproduce a depth of sound. Drums and bass guitars sounds provide me with an image of being able to properly place their positioning in front of me if i close my eyes and listen. The Denon set sounds so cluttered that it all sounds like the origin of the music is deep in my head. No separation of directions or subtleties of sounds.

Other Thoughts: I have tested these for several days. Varying from/through all different genres of music. I find that this set performs well with digitized music and music without strong background music. However, distinct sounds are very enjoyable. This is due to the piercing effect of the higher frequencies drowning out the enjoyment of not so powerful subtleties.
For example, the Rock genre, such as The Doors or Rolling Stones do not work well as there is some flatness in instrument created sounds. However, when dance/techno is on, such as Moby or Shpongle, the sound was true and sounded pretty good.

My use for this set was as a companion to my astro mix-amp setup. I needed to be able to listen to television, ps3, and 360 in full glory, yet still maintain ability to have the mic option for chatting, whether a game or skype via tv.
As a sound effect producer, where dialog takes the front and sound effects are enjoyed, while background and ambiance is for scene setting, but not the focus of the attention, these exceed in performance. Dialog is perfectly clear, when in an intense gun battle, dialog is clear and sound effect placement is still enjoyable and effective.

For voice, they do a good job on the sound and mic end of the spectrum.
