2 out of 5 eggsDied on me

Pros: Accurate. Tons of Power. Sounds excellent. Although not "boomy" - so maybe not the best for home theater.

Cons: Died on me after 4 years. Was working one second, then it started making this weird scratching(?), cracking(?) noise - it's hard to explain. Wasn't very loud and only lasted a few seconds, but after that it won't power up at all. Checked the fuse, cycled the power a couple times.... nothing. I called Polk and to him it sounded like the amplifier was dead, and that it would be nearly $400 to fix it.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure how I got such a good deal, but when I bought it Newegg was selling this subwoofer for $330. I can't believe it's up to $900 now. But I can't imagine how much more frustrated I would be if I had actually spent $900 on this thing and it died after 4 years.

And, of course, the warranty expires after 3 years.

Going to look for a different brand.

4 out of 5 eggsInsane Bass for Cheap

Pros: Extreme power. 1200 watts RMS, which is a heck of a lot. It's loud, this tiny little 8' sub shakes my house. It gets low too, down to around 20 hz. It's a gorgeous piece of equipment, nice and shiny and also very small. It looks nice sitting in my living room and people can't beleive that tiny little box is what's shaking the house. Loud and deep, that's what this sub is about. Actually, it's more the kind of sub that produces bass you feel more than the kind that you can hear. You don't really notice it, you just know that your room is shaking during movies and it really adds to the ambience of the environment in the movie. This is really a great bargain for this sub, actually I got mine for $400 which was an even better bargain. These subs go for double what Newegg wants eleswhere.

Cons: Sometimes the sub will distort a bit when the frequency of the bass is really low and the sub is turned way up. It's the only thing that I've noticed. If you got the 10 or 12 inch version you probably wouldn't have the problem. But for the price, you can't go wrong. Just turn it down a bit is all. The woofer is exposed to the air and the box itself is super glossy. So if you've got really young kids you'll have to either hide it or put it up because your kids will smudge it up or poke holes in the side of the cone not protected. I don't know how strong it is, but I don't doubt that it's possible to poke a hole in it. The center is protected by a piece of plastic, but the outer edge of the cone is not.

Other Thoughts: I love this sub, I would to have one with a larger woofer but you won't find one of those for this price. For this price you will not, can not find a better sub. I am extremely happy with this piece of equipment.

5 out of 5 eggsIt is a perfect little sub!!!

Pros: Very Tight accurate bass. Excellent response. Strong performer in music and home theater setup. Not boomy!!!

Cons: - It will not knock you out with thuds... not a con imo. I would perfer a 10 just for a little more output.

Other Thoughts: This is an insanely great sub for an 8" option. I didn't buy this through newegg, but I am very compelled to write a review after seeing some of the negative comments. If you are experiencing rattles and thuds from the speaker... YOU DON'T HAVE IT SET UP CORRECTLY!!!

I had this issue as well and was very disappointed at first. After doing some research i discovered the problem. If you are running straight from the sub pre-out from you AVR, like i assume most of you are and should be, it will obviously bypass the crossover on the amp. Let me say that again, line input will bypass the crossover on the amp! Set your AVR sub woofer bypass at 80 hz instead of a "common default" of 120hz and all of your problems will be solved.

Before i did this correctly i could not even listen to it at half volume without problems, after correct setup, you can crank the heck out of it and reap the amazing tight bass it offers.

Don't add cons for something that is a setup issue on your e

5 out of 5 eggsSimply the best

Pros: Exceptionally tight bass, exceptionally accurate, impressive output level regardless of size. Always proportionally correct output for set volume level throughout its stated dynamic range.

Cons: Newegg no longer carries the DSW Micropro 2000. Prefer Gloss black to the matte black

Other Thoughts: Quite simply the best sub I have ever heard except for the DSW MicroPro 2000 I bought before it. It totally redefined my standards for sound quality, especially where bass is concerned. This is not a good choice if you are more interested in feeling bass than hearing it correctly rendered at any output level. In practice and I have found its -3db lower limit to be 20hz as opposed to the advertised 22hz

3 out of 5 eggsDisapointed

Pros: Sleek Design....

Cons: Not as good as it looks..

Other Thoughts: Size really matters. I bought this because of space issues I have and went a little higher from a dsw model but litlle disapointed. If I only have ample space I could have gotten the PSW 505.

1 out of 5 eggsSo much for this one...

Pros: It looks nice.

Cons: An 8-inch speaker may not be large enough for a subwoofer. But I also think that the design of this speaker is extremely poor, and chosen just to be different from the competition. Maybe good for the creative writers in marketing, but if you want a real speaker, look elsewhere. For those who don't know better, well, happy pretending this sounds anywhere close to good.

1 out of 5 eggsVERY SAD

Pros: looks good

Cons: Very sad it says 1200 watts no way at 40 % it sounds real bad makes like a real loud blown out sound you have no choice you must turn it down. i had a 125 watt '12' it was 9 years old and it sounded way better...

Other Thoughts: if you want bass then look at something bigger

2 out of 5 eggsYuk!

Pros: Newegg ROCKS!!! Cheaper than anywhere else. ANYWHERE!

Cons: I'am not an Bass head by any stretch of the imagination. However, I have owned at one point or another Some of the best speakers money can buy.

My current set up are Harmon Kardon 3490, 2 polk Monitor 70's and a Polk PSW 505.

I bought this because of the killer reviews and I thought it would give depth to my system.

I tried to tune it in many different locatins and positions. All it would do is crackle and thud, no tonal quality at all. I even un hooked my PSW 505 and was really disapointedn at what came out of this. For the money it should make you want to turn the volume up. Not scramble for the mute button.

I may have got a defective one but the world will never know, as I returned for a full refund.

Other Thoughts: Thank You Newegg for the great customer service and free return shipping lable.

NEWEGG ROCKS!!!

5 out of 5 eggsValue

Pros: Great Value
Tight Sound
Loud
High-end finish
Remote
Easy setup

Cons: Digital volume control

Other Thoughts: I've had mine for about 1 year and have thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I loved it so much I just ordered my second. At $350 I am not sure there is a better value out there. I am not buying it to replace the first, but to give my system a ridiculous level of LFE with a dual sub setup.

I found the setup to be easy and everything about the subwoofer of extremely high quality. It is what you would expect from Polk. The sound is extremely clean and tight. My only complaint would be the digital volume control. It is not easy to determine the current volume unless you are well versed in morse code (the blue LED flashes to indicate the volume).

I highly recommend...particularly at $350!!!

If my neighbors are reading, please accept my apologies in advance. I promise not to keep you up too late.

4 out of 5 eggsCan't please everyone, but OK for me

Pros: Compact size, decent finish, ample power for my application, good price, matches well with Polk CS series loudspeakers.

Cons: Clumsy volume control--why not just put a knob on it? Wouldn't mind a version with cherry finish.

Other Thoughts: I wonder if some of the folks who don't find it "loud" enough haven't set up their systems properly--these home theater set-ups take a lot of tweaking and the room itself has a big impact. And remember that 1200 watts driving frequencies below 100 Hz won't be nearly as loud as much less power driving frequencies in the speaking range. Just ask any bass player and he will tell you he needs way more power than the guitarist to cut through the mix. If you want chest pounding bass, you may want to (1) go to the theater (2) find a guy with an Escalade and $10000 spinners and ask him for a ride (3) spend way more than $350. I'm more interested in balanced sound than loud sound though.
