4 out of 5 eggsFirst Camera, Seems Good

Pros: * Pans and tilts silently with awesome range of motion
* Very easy to set up (assuming you know your way around networking a bit since it seems like some reviewers had some trouble?)
* No software actually required, the included software is really for auto-discovery of networked cameras, you control and view the camera in a browser or with compatable 3rd party software
* Built in dynamic dns via foscam site and a random subdomain

Cons: * Multiple camera viewing using the web software is only available in internet explorer
* Makes a pretty loud clicking sound when transitioning between day and night (for example turning on and off the lights in a room will cause the camera to click)

2 out of 5 eggsNot as good as it sounds

Pros: The pan and tilt and IR filter are a great feature.

Cons: Was totally impossible to connect to a Home Network even tho contact was made with the Foscam support team as well as my Internet provider. Really was a waist of time.

3 out of 5 eggsinexpensive PT not Z camera

Pros: inexpensive

Cons: lens barrel distortion
no confirmation of successful wireless connection
no exposure options, full auto at all times

Other Thoughts: It pans and tilts but doesn't zoom. There is a built-in web server for controlling the device, just like your router. If you want to connect to this device from outside your house, you need to set your router to port forward. It has built-in support for DDNS that I haven't tried. I didn't use the bundled CD; I used an IP scanner to find the camera's IP and then just use a browser. It has the same MAC addr on both wired and wireless. There's a clicking sound when IR is being switched on or off. The IR LEDs are visible but very dimly red. Focusing is focus free --anything from 2 foot out is reasonably sharp. The overall packaging, user manual, and the built-in web server have a low budget feel.

5 out of 5 eggsGood for some

Pros: It's a decent cam for a relatively low price.

Pans and tilts.

Comes with mounting hardware.

2-way audio.

Cons: Low Resolution - 2 settings (240x320 and 480x640)

Presets are disabled by default.

Audio quality is poor.

Other Thoughts: The following instructions are copied from R. Tickle "RATickle" (North Jersey) on a competitor's website. I edited and added some items.

1) Do NOT install the software on the CD.
2) Connect the camera by Cat-5 wire to your router.
3) Login to your router (via browser) and find the IP address assigned to your camera.
4) Login to the camera at that IP address (via browser). The default username is admin with no password. Go to 'Device Management' > 'Basic Network Settings' and IMMEDIATELY turn OFF the DHCP.
5) Give your camera a fixed IP address on your network and fill in the subnet mask with what you normally use. (usually 255.255.255.0)
6) The Gateway and DNS fields should normally be the IP address of your router.
7) Pick a 4 digit number to use for the HTTP port number. (I have no idea what "Network Lamp" is so I left it checked.) Click 'Submit'.
8) Go to 'Wireless LAN Settings'. Fill in the SSID, encryption type, and share key used by your wireless network. Click 'Submit'.
9) Disconnect the Cat-5 cable and re-boot the camera.
10) Re-login to the camera at the new fixed IP address:Port to verify that everything's working
11) Optional: Go to 'PT Settings' and uncheck 'Disable preset'. Click 'Submit'.
12) Go to 'Users Settings' to change the admin password and perhaps username also. (make it hard to guess) Click 'Submit'.
13) Login to your router and set a port-forwarding entry to map to the fixed IP address and HTTP port you gave your camera.
14) Use the "What's My IP" site to find your outside IP address.
15) Enter your outside IP address and HTTP port number into a browser and verify that you can get into the camera from outside your house.
16) Optional: Using an android phone, buy and download 'IP Cam Viewer Pro' by Robert Chou. Enter the IP, Port, username, and password.
17) You're done.
