5 out of 5 eggsMuch better than my 4 year old cisco

Pros: Has never dropped a signal
Works perfectly with the following connected:
Ipad 2 X 2
Kindle
PlayStation 3
Smart phones X 2
Nintendo Wii
Desktop
Denon receiver.

Cons: Should have an option to turn off the lights on the front (Bright!)

Other Thoughts: Design/look is wife approved

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Warranty

Pros: It was a good product while it worked.

Cons: It died on me after six months. I contacted manufacture, live chat, and they would not help me without giving them my phone number. Netgear did not believe me the router was dead, so they would have to test it before replacing it. In the mean time I can be without wi-fi in my house while waiting on them to fix their product. I bit the bullet on it. I ended up recycling the router and buying from their competition. I did not pay $180 for it to work six months and than die on me.

Other Thoughts: I am never going to buy another Netgear product again. It's not because it was a bad product, but because they make it so difficult to replace it when it breaks. They just have a really bad customer service.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGood router

Pros: Great range. Easy to setup with the NETGEAR Genie application (updating the firmware to the latest version easy too). No signal drops in my case. I have 9 devices connected to this router. Iphone, HP Designjet 110 nr plotter, HP Officejet 4500, Blue Ray 3D player, 2 PC's and a laptop (connecting at 867 Mbps), external NAS box with two hardrives. No isues at all. I bought my new unit at $128 after an instant rebate.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: After doing a lot of research about signal drops I found out the changing the 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz wi-fi connections to channels 9 and 161 respectively did the trick for my wireless system making it interference and drop off free.

1 out of 5 eggsNot A Happy Camper

Pros: OK when the wireless works, I purchased this router because I wanted faster wireless connectivity with my apple products specifically Apple TV, BUT...

Cons: About every 7-10 days I have to turn off the router to get my mobile devices (iPad-iPhone-iPod Touch) to connect. This of course precludes even running any wireless cameras (but that's another subject). The devices go to cell data, BUT the router SSID still is seen in the network connection window, selecting the SSID on the iPad, etc does not connect to it. You have to shut down the router for it to connect again.

Other Thoughts: I purchased it because my newphew has the same model and has not had a bit of trouble with it. It has the latest firmware so that's not the issue. I have done what they asked me to do:
1. How to View or Change Your Wireless Network Name or SSID, 2. How to view or change the wireless network password/key/passphrase, 3. How to Powercycle Your Home Network, 4. Troubleshooting Intermittent Wireless/Dropped Wi-Fi Connections.
Which some of them don't seem to pertain to my issue, BUT...

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

Which version of the firmware are you running on the R6300? Can you clarify whether it is a v1 or v2 model? We'd like to work with you directly to resolve the disconnects you're seeing, and that information will be helpful for our engineers.

You can reach us directly at newegg@netgear.com -- we thank you for your patience and look forward to helping out.

3 out of 5 eggsNice...when it is working

Pros: High speed
Quick set-up
Quite user friendly interface

Cons: Intermittent drops or re-boots
affects wireless and wired connection

Other Thoughts: I was having issues with the ISP hardware, went with the Netgear modem and dedicated R6300V2 router (wireless, w/ Ethernet ports).
High speed wireless, nice router EXCEPT

It will randomly drop connection.. wireless AND wired. Sometimes it is 1-3/hour...sometimes less...sometime every few minutes. Updated firmware, reset to factory changed settings, etc.

I have had this for just over a month... running up against the 45 days return to the big box we bought from ...May go the R7000 Nighthawk...or more likely Linksys or perhaps Asus. I do a lot of remote access work and cannot have such an unstable connection. Sad... it is awesome...when it works

Manufacturer Response:

Hi buckeye,

The disconnects you're seeing are not normal, and we'd like to work with you directly to get those resolved. Please contact us at newegg@netgear.com at your earliest convenience, and we'll troubleshoot with you directly or get you a warranty replacement if needed.

NETGEAR Team

4 out of 5 eggsI guess i'm lucky

Pros: Great Distance, fast as wired lan speeds, i use this to share my 2 tb usb 3 external drive to all my computers and smart tv and ruku box. using both 2.4 and 5 ghz
We have a large house and prior to this router i had been using a commercial grade outdoor access point to get good signal to the far bedrooms.

Cons: Very Power sensitive, wps stopped working.
I bought this router from a guy on craigslist for $40.00 sorry newegg but who would blame me. I had some of the rebooting problems many have reported, however when i run it from my ups the problems seem to go away.
Its physically big and the netgear logo is bright @ night but who sleeps in their office --- right-

Other Thoughts: Even though this has large transformer in line to the router from the ac i have found a real improvement in reliability of the router when plugged into the battery side of my apc ups.

3 out of 5 eggsFast, but unreliable

Pros: Fast when it works, lots of features in stock firmware, DD-WRT support, very good range and coverage.

Cons: Unstable, frequent issues with 5GHz, simple things like resetting to factory don't work as they should. Had to reboot frequently. Guest Network unable to separate from main network when using as AP.

Other Thoughts: I tried to use this as an access point for a few weeks, but eventually gave up and sent it back to Newegg. At first it seemed great. This one device could cover my entire 3-story, 4800sq ft home with very good signal strength on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Stock firmware does allow 'access point' only setup, but when used as an AP, you cannot setup Guest network on a separate subnet. In other words, Guest will see your entire network and shared drives/folders.

So it worked well for a day or two, then I started to loose internet connection with my 5GHz devices. They showed signal and connection, but could not connect. I made sure the AP's IP was static in my main wired router, but that didn't have any affect. I tried several different configurations in the wireless settings (Reducing from 1300 speeds down to the 600 and 144 speed settings), but that didn't seem to help much. I would still loose connection with my 5GHz devices. I didn't feel like trying the Open source firmwares, so I sent it back. My older N-class devices were much more reliable, even if the speeds/range were not quite as good. I will wait for AC to mature more before buying another AC router/AP.
