2 out of 5 eggsVery decieving packaging

This review is from: Netgear C3700 N600 WiFi Docsis 3.0 Cable Modem Router 2 In 1

Pros: Easy setup, port forwarding was a breeze (very few options preprogrammed though), two wireless networks 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz

Cons: Packaging says speeds up to 340Mbps, but this modem is not capable of anywhere near that speed - you will be lucky to get 100Mbps out of it. The only portion of DOCSIS 3.0 that this modem supports is IPv6 - this modem leaves you with speeds from the last decade.

Other Thoughts: If you are only paying for 100Mbps down and 10 up this modem would probably work just fine. Wireless speeds are pretty nice overall ~90Mbps down and 13Mbps up (likely limited by the modem side of things). It would be great if companies were to give straight forward information about their products instead of putting whatever they feel like on the packaging to make prospective buyers buy things that do not work to their full expectations.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello David,

We are sorry to hear that your speeds are capping out at 100MBPs and want to see why that is. Whenever something isn't working as advertised please contact us so we can get it working properly. Simply email us at netgearteam@netgear.com with a copy and paste of your review, the current firmware that is running on the C3700, and your contact information.

Our goal is to earn your business again.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

This review is from: Netgear C3700 N600 WiFi Docsis 3.0 Cable Modem Router 2 In 1

Pros: - Bad review

Cons: Where to start....
- Lacks admin options
- Weak. Had to get an extender just to get signal to other side of house and even then junk.
- Does not work well with other Netgear equipment like USB receiver and extender. How bad is it when same manufacturer equipment has trouble working together? Bad.
- Unreliable, drops or bottlenecks often despite reasonable load. Router in open cool room with other equipment, heat is not a factor.

Other Thoughts: If you're serious about routers that have options and stability this router is probably not for you.
If you want an easy-button router that has a weak signal this router might be for you.

Manufacturer Response:

It sounds like your C3700 isn't functioning properly - we want to investigate and get it working(or get the necessary replacement). All that you need to do is contact us by email at netgearteam@netgear.com with a copy and paste of your review to start. Adding other information is also helpful and can speed things up. You can include the firmware you have running, your contact information, and the serial number on the C3700.

We are sincerely sorry for the trouble and would like nothing more than to make things right.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible, do not buy!

This review is from: Netgear C3700 N600 WiFi Docsis 3.0 Cable Modem Router 2 In 1

Pros: Works great for a few weeks...

Cons: Dies after a few weeks...

Other Thoughts: I took a risk with this product ignoring the reviews saying to myself, "How bad can it be?". I bought one and recommended a friend to buy one. We are both just pass my 30 days return period and it's dead. Paper weight. Just know now that whatever you plan on paying for this issue, you are going to lose that money.

Manufacturer Response:

If something stops working please don't forget that there is a hardware warranty attached to our units. For assistance please email us with a copy and paste of your review, what happened, and (if you can)the current firmware that you have running.
Email: netgearteam@netgear.com

We'd like nothing more than to make things right and can't apologize enough for the trouble with your C3700. Please let your friend know that he can also email us whenever needed.

2 out of 5 eggsOk Modem, Mediocre Wifi

This review is from: Netgear C3700 N600 WiFi Docsis 3.0 Cable Modem Router 2 In 1

Pros: Setup was simple. I did have to call my internet company to switch out the modem but that took me all of 5 minutes which is one of the shorter interactions I have had with them so that was a non issue.

Wired speed test there is no difference between this and a direct connection to just my previous modem. The wireless is where it starts to fall apart.

Cons: Wireless is horrible.

It works fine for a day then needs to be power cycled to get any reliable speed. It would drop wireless rates to that of dialup internet.

The range on the wifi left much to be desired also, I previously had a netgear router and had no problems reading from one end of my apartment to the other and this one barely reached my bedroom on the other side of the apartment. When I did get reliable wifi the speed was sub par and made it hard to stream anything like hd hbo go or netflix.

Other Thoughts: Overall this router/modem is not worth picking up.

Even after updating the firmware the wifi is mediocre at best and dialup speeds at worst. The more annoying part is when you power cycle this compared to just a router it has to re-establish connection with the cable company which takes significantly longer than just restarting a normal router.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Ryan,

We'd like to help you with the wireless issues that you are having and want to remind you to contact us whenever there are any problems. To get help directly from us all you need to do is email us at netgearteam@netgear.com. In this case simply include a copy and paste of your review, any other details, and the firmware running on your C3700.

We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to hearing back from you.

5 out of 5 eggsNice All-in-One, Small Footprint!

This review is from: Netgear C3700 N600 WiFi Docsis 3.0 Cable Modem Router 2 In 1

Pros: Nice all in one unit to simplify your setup and cut down on desktop clutter. This would be ideal for anyone who is primarily cordless throughout their home as it only offers two hardwire jacks.

No need to be a rocket scientist to setup this router! Once logged in through any browser, setup is simplified under the basic tab for those that prefer “one click” options. And if you are a more advanced user, under the advanced tab you will find more detailed information, and settings for tweaking it out to your networks specific needs.

A power switch on the backside allows you to shut it down at any time if need be. One touch buttons on the front offer control over turning on/off the WiFi portion of the router, and one touch WPS for paring up other WiFi devices without the need for typing in a password which simplifies things. With just a glance, the green LED’s on the front will inform you of your connection status to the internet, and also if the WiFi is on, as well as what band is currently turned on.

WiFi access list settings will give peace of mind to those who like to have total control over what devices are allowed to utilize the network. You can completely lock down the WiFi portion for your specific devices. Also has a guest network setting which is very useful to allow other devices to connect with limited speed, and not having to worry about them gaining full access.

With the USB plug on the back, you can connect a thumb drive, or portable drive and setup a simple media streaming server. This will also work great if you have DLNA capable devices like a TV or DVD player as you can place movie/music/photos on the drive to share across the network within your home and stream for viewing.

Parental control settings with the free app let you customize the parental control settings with easy to configure presets, category filters and custom lists. You can easily set up customized profiles that define content filters and time periods for website access for anyone in your household or set filtering level’s specific to the devices in your home. The Parental Controls are web-browser based, so you can manage your web access settings away from home (with Internet access), allowing you to quickly make exceptions if needed.

With eight bonded channels down, and four bonded channels up, you will always have the maximum speed your connection will offer. Also DOCSIS 3.0 ensures you have the most up to date modem and this modem is certified by all major cable ISPs.

I had no latency or drop out issues with this modem/router on my network. It worked with no problems for both gaming, and streaming! WiFi also worked for me with no issues.

Cons: I could not find anything worth mentioning, it worked as it should.

Other Thoughts: As with any wireless router, location is very important to ensure a signal throughout your home. Middle of the house is always the best, and sometimes by placing it on a shelf above a desktop will help give it a little more range. Always make sure it is not boxed in as airflow is also important to keeping it cool so it runs at max performance!

If your home or area you plan to cover is very large, you could add a Wi-Fi Range Extender to boost the signal where it is needed!

If you’re renting a modem from your provider, purchasing this all in one unit will end up saving you money in the long run due to the monthly rental fees. So depending on what you pay to rent, this will pay for itself in the long run!

2 out of 5 eggsExtremely poor wifi range, unstable wifi connection. cable modem works fine

This review is from: Netgear C3700 N600 WiFi Docsis 3.0 Cable Modem Router 2 In 1

Pros: cant think of any

Cons: I live in a small, 900 square foot home and the 5GHz wifi signal from this router is barely usable just one room away from where the router is located. Moving to the opposite end of the house (only 2 rooms and 25 feet away) the 2.5GHz signal is practically useless. In this scenario, over the course of a 2 hour movie, the wifi connection speed will fluctuate from 10mbps to less then 1mbps, causing movies to pause or pixilate. I ended up just running Ethernet cables all over to my fixed devices to take advantage of the reliable 25mbps that I get from the wired lan ports on this router.

Overall I am very dissatisfied with this router. I figured since I have such a small house, it would work fine, but I had no idea it would not work reliably beyond the bedroom where I keep the router. I have owned this router since 2014 and have not found any work arounds for its issues. I am eventually going to replace it. Netgear will not be on the top my my list when searching for a new one.

Other Thoughts: The cable modem portion of this device seems to work fine when wired devices are connected to it. I have Comcast "25 mbps" service and get download speeds slightly over that with this router (only with wired devices connected to the LAN ports.)

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

This review is from: Netgear C3700 N600 WiFi Docsis 3.0 Cable Modem Router 2 In 1

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Receive lag spikes every 20 seconds or so in online gaming. Wired, 100mb down connection. Google this issue with this specific router, many other similar scenarios to be found.
Killed torrenting (yes, legal ones) despite opening up proper ports/forwarding. Horrible signal strength, devices are ~20 feet away in same room and receive 2 bars.
Returning this paperweight tonight and will just purchase another Motorola Surfboard.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello raumey,

We want to get your C3700 running perfectly and are sorry to hear that you are experiencing disruptions. Before you return it please email us at netgearteam@netgear.com with a copy and paste of this review, your ISP, current firmware, serial number, and zip code.

2 out of 5 eggsFollow up review

This review is from: Netgear C3700 N600 WiFi Docsis 3.0 Cable Modem Router 2 In 1

Pros: Nice to have a modem / wifi combo. No need to pay modem rental fee. I like the dual band signals you can set up. Easy to use interface and set up. Netgear app works good.

Cons: Horrible wifi signals especially @ 5Ghz band. 2.4Ghz is a little better still get low signal. I have a PS4, Xbox One, and Smart TV with wireless capability . All three hardly gets full bar signal. Time to time it slows down and this is about 12ft away from the modem.

Also I can only get a maxium of 100Mbs of download on speedtest.net. when my Internet is capable of doing 200Mbs. This was when my ISP promo me the 200Mbs. Tested both directly connected to the modem and and both wifi signals. Maxium download speed test is 100Mbs.

Other Thoughts: If this modem had better wifi signals and faster download speeds 200Mbs plus it would be perfect.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Vergel,

We appreciate the honest review and want to help you get the best possible performance out of your C3700. All you need to do is email us at netgearteam@netgear.com with the serial number of your unit and a copy and paste of your review.

There is nothing we want more than to earn your business again.

1 out of 5 eggsSame Result as Everyone Else

This review is from: Netgear C3700 N600 WiFi Docsis 3.0 Cable Modem Router 2 In 1

Pros: When it works it works great. The second "guest" network is also really cool - you can secure your private equipment separately from your guests' devices.

Cons: Same problem as everyone else... Drops the connection to wireless devices on a routine basis. Can't update the firmware directly from Netgear, new FW must be pushed from Time Warner. There are also a very limited number of external hard drives that will work with this unit. That said, a FW update would take care of that. Oh... Wait...

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Carl,

We are very sorry that you are having trouble and want to see if there is anything that we can do to help. You are right in that you need to upgrade the firmware through your ISP. For our cable modems or cable modem/routers, firmware updates need to go through ISP certification. Once certified, they are pushed down by the ISP themselves. Unfortunately, NETGEAR has no control over how or when the actual update is pushed to your device -- it is up to your ISP to determine if and when new firmware is implemented. Also, our technical support agents are not able to manually upgrade firmware or provide firmware update files

Please email us at netgearteam@netgear.com for any troubleshooting or concerns-- just make sure to also add your C3700's serial number.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team
