4 out of 5 eggsHigh Quality Images From Small Camera

Pros: Excellent image quality for both still and video images. Many manual overrides, when desired, for the extensive auto functions and modes. Photo RAW; 2:3 format that is consistent with Canon's pro cameras. With 22mm lens it's a compact, light camera.

Cons: There is no effective rapid-fire of images as compared to G series or pro-sumer Canon camera bodies.

Other Thoughts: I regularly use Canon 1D Mark IV and 1D Mark IIN camera bodies. I also have a Canon G-15. I always shoot Canon RAW. I find the image quality from the M to be substantially superior to the G-15. I have adapted to the M's touchscreen-centric controls and find them to be intuitive and quicker to use than the G-15's. For shooting candid and sideline shots at sporting events, the M with the 22mm lens does an admirable job, and without the 5 pound weight and bulk of my Mark IIN with the short zoom lens I typically use with it. With the manual controls and high quality high-ISO output, you can shoot fast-action activities, but you have to time shutter release for the peak action. You can't "spray & pray" as you can with a camera body that shoots 3, 6 or 11 frames per second. The M's real world fps is about 1 frame per 3 seconds. Which is fine if you understand that limitation. In very low light I pair this with the Canon 270 EXII flash.

5 out of 5 eggsfirmware update works!

Pros: After the just released firmware update the AF is much faster. It did hunt when the focus point was not inline with the IR focus assist beam before the update. Now it is much snappier. When using the lens adapter and the 50mm 1.8 it is WAY better. It still re-focuses every time you let up on the shutter button and then repress it.

Cons: Still is no match for my 7D but for what I paid for this little powerhouse it is a fantastic camera. If you leave the camera on while using the neck strap it will bump up against you and turn on touch shutter. That means you get some shots every time the camera bumps into your shirt!

Other Thoughts: This little guy does better at ISO 1600 than my 7D. It will take great high quality photos when using the 22mm or the lens adapter and my 24-105mm (looks funny though). Shots with a tripod are as good as the 7D. It is hard to hold with man hands, I am always covering the focus assist beam with my left hand by accident.

5 out of 5 eggsBEST MIRRORLESS CAMERA EVER!!!

Pros: DON'T BE BOTHERED BY THE AUTO-FOCUS SPEED ISSUE. TURN CONTINUOUS FOCUSING MODE OFF AND YOUR LIFE IS SAVED. I HAVE OWNED AN NEX-5N, AND ALSO HAVE TRIED NEX-F3 AND SOME 4/3 CAMERAS BEFORE. IMAGE QUALITY OF NEX CAMERAS ARE IN PAR OF EOS M IF NOT POORER. THIS EOS M GIVES YOU PHOTOS THAT HAVE THE EXACT FEELING OF PHOTOS COMIN' OUT FROM A 650D/T4i, WHICH IS THE MOST YOU CAN EXPECT FROM A MIRRORLESS CAMERA BY NOW.

Cons: 1. BATTERY VOLUME IS NOT GOOD, AND THE TOUCHSCREEN EATS A LOT OF POWER. GET A 2ND BATTERY JUST IN CASE.
2. NO VIEWFINDER BUT GOOD FOR ME. IF YOU ARE USED TO A VIEWFINDER THEN CONSIDER CANON G1X OR G15 OR SL1.
3. EOS MX IS COMING OUT AS AN UPGRADE SOON.
4. NO FLASH WHICH IS INCONVENIENT, NOT A LOT OF CONTROL OUTSIDE THE TOUCHSCREEN, FML.
5. NEEDS AN ADAPTER TO USE EF LENSES, BUT THIS ALTERNATIVE FUNCTION IS NOT QUITE ATTRACTIVE. ADAPTER MAKES LIFE HARDER, AND THE FLANGE DISTANCE FOR EF LENSES ARE TOO LONG FOR THIS MIRRORLESS CAMERA MAKING THE CAMERA NOT COMPACT NOMORE. I HOPED IT TO BE A THICKER MIRRORLESS CAMERA THAT FITS EF LENSES.
6. FOCAL SPEED IS NOT SUPER FAST...

4 out of 5 eggsSmall size, Big image

Pros: APS size sensor
Small size
Well built
DSLR image quality without the size
Shallow DOF with the 22mm f2 lens

Cons: Auto iso chooses a slow shutter on SV
Focus could be quicker (but is isn't bad and it is accurate)

Other Thoughts: I use canon DSLR's and this is an EOS!
Got this kit at newegg for a great price. Neweeg was great and shipped fast with great customer service!
