1 out of 5 eggsAt this point, unusable

Pros: None.

Cons: The device was very difficult to set up. Instructions and manual were very tough to even understand. The supplier obviously used a translation program for the manual which was basically worthless. It came with an install CD, but no setup files and no indication which drivers I should be using, etc. Can NOT access a drive using this package.

Other Thoughts: I won't buy from a foreign seller again.

5 out of 5 eggsEXCELLENT!

Pros: Allows maximum transfer rate to copy or write to old 40 pin IDE (PATA) Hard Drives. If the cable config interferes with the power plug (rare) just use an IDE extension cable.

This is a great tool!

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsExcellent for SATA, useless for PATA

Pros: Loads fast and works well for SATA devices. Have pushed it well past USB2 speeds, but don't have hardware handy to push it to the limits of USB3. Decently compact - fits in the war bag.

Cons: The physical design is such that it's almost useless for my CD- or DVD- P-ATA devices. Use with P-ATA hard disks is possible only if the jumper block is between the power plug and the data plut. This unit's case spills beyond the ends of the P-ATA female plug on both ends - by 1/4 inch on one side, and 1/2 inch on the other. The USB cable is attached on the 1/4 inch side. Most of the P-ATA devices I have (CD or DVD drives) include a power plug that is too close to the P-ATA connector for this device to be used. When I looked online to try to find a P-ATA M/F cable to bridge this gap, I struck out. They are apparently not available, except thru (perhaps) a museum shiop.

Other Thoughts: The physical design wouldn't be such a problem if the unit came with a PATA M-F jumper of perhaps 6 inches to bridge the gap.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's almost idiot proof.

Pros: This thing is easy to use, espectially if you read the instructions.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: I love this thing. It's nice to check and format drives without the hassle of installing them in a PC.
