1 out of 5 eggsStarts out great ... then the fake apps rear their ugly heads

This review is from: Kocaso M752 7" Android 4.0 Capacitive Touch Tablet PC - Dual Camera, All Winner A13 Cortex A8, 4GB HD (Pink)

Pros: Initially, this seems like a solid tablet.

Cons: The preinstalled "Facebook" app is malware. As is "Super HD Player" (what is this even doing on a 480p device?). After the device is rooted, and yes, I know how to root -- my phone is a Galaxy Exhibit 4G running AOIP to get it up to Android 4.0 -- these zombie apps will reappear.

The third-party Seattle Appstore cannot be installed because another app launches upon each attempt for just a brief enough time to report back to Seattle that no SD card is installed. Digging into the settings, the offending app cannot be found.

Once again, this is on a fully rooted device (SuperOneClick plus Titanium Backup Pro, the latter of which will report a wipe -- which lasts for roughly three days.).

This was purchased for my son. Thankfully, my other son's Kocaso (an M762B) waited 90 days to exhibit the same issues -- just long enough for us to believe we had a safe company on our hands.

So we now have two tablets from the same company that are clearly infiltrated with malware. I'm no statistician, and I'm not going to claim that two data points connote a trend, but if that's not the case, this is insanely bad luck.

The aforementioned "Facebook" app behaves enough like the real one to let a 9-year-old believe he's on Facebook; it interfaces just fine with Facebook, but what it does with the info is a nebulous issue. The fake app is kind enough to use a subtly altered icon that, were I not a graphic artist by trade, I would not have noticed. There's slightly different shading behind the "F" and an underscore across the whole thing, but we're talking about the difference between #000088 (this is a guess, as I haven't recently calibrated my monitor) and #000080.

So, either Kocaso manufactures these in this manner, or the vendor makes sure to "add value" by reducing the price and following my boys around without their knowledge.

Other Thoughts: I have only written two "avoid at all costs" reviews across the websites I frequent; those pale in comparison to what this device promises and actually delivers.
