5 out of 5 eggsBest Bang for Your Buck

Pros: 250G storage
bluetooth (keyboard also)
e-book
e-comic
music and audiobooks
Google Services compatible
easy to root (android market)
battery life is good (depending on how hard it is used)
Fast charging (2ah charger)
Live Wallpaper support (processor intensive)
Pretty loud and clear audio
fits in your back pocket (very portable)
Can be tethered to cell phone
Adobe compatible
Flash compatible
linux platform
Not for Apple loving, ignorant, button pushers.

Cons: avoid firmware updates unless absolutely necessary. Firmware removed compatibility with over half my movie collection.
Not many accessories available that are Archos specific.
Battery is not replaceable
cannot charge through USB
camera is low quality, but works fine
Video chat compatible

Other Thoughts: Great for students
Go through setting, because performance is not optimized without adjustment.
Does not censor like Newegg does.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent tablet for the price, but some skills required

Pros: Cheap
Lightweight
Can play almost *any* file format known to mankind
Good battery life (around 10 hrs when surfing/watchingvideos/working/etc)
Has a kickstand for easy movie viewing
250GB of storage
Very portable

Cons: No cell phone internet access (but you can work around that)
not the most polished tablet out of the box
Micro usb port tricky to find compatible keyboards/mice/HDD/etc for
Low power output of the micro USB port (100 milliamps) limits what devices you can hook up
Few accessories included in the box (no HDMI, no USB host, no USB charger)

Other Thoughts: This is not a tablet for those with no tech skills. Out of the box this tablet is rough around the edges, and you need to invest some work into it to make is a great tablet. However, after installing google market and rooting the device, it runs fantastically and does pretty much whatever I want it to do. With the permanent root that I have, I can get full access to all market apps, have excellent backup capacity, use cell phone internet and do much more.

Be warned however, the current methods of rooting this tablet will void your warranty with Archos, so don't go down this path unless you are comfortable with having no warranty.

I'll also note that even though this tablet is designed to run Froyo (Android 2.2) There are other choices of OS you can run on this tablet. So far, there is a custom ROM of Froyo, a port to debian, a port to Kubuntu, a port to bohi linux in the works and more in the pipeline.

Overall, great tablet once you work on it and get it configured.

5 out of 5 eggsWell worth the money.

Pros: The storage on this is huge. I have at least 60 movies on it and I still have 130gb of room left. Possibly the only internet tablet of this size (or any size) to have a hard drive version. I had to RMA one of these things. But I was determined to keep trying because my father got one and he loves it. I'm loving it too. If your really into media (music/pics/movies) then you'll love this. To me the internet access is just a perk. I have no trouble connecting to my home network or any others for that matter. With the right apps running this can be a very useful little device.

Cons: Because this is a hard drive version it tends to be a little sluggish. It also sucks up the battery quicker. I would estimate 2.5-4 hours of constant video play before needing a recharge. Plenty of time for a movie or just surfing the web at a coffee place (you could always drag your charger along anyways). I highly recommend you run the firmware update right out of the box. It will crash on you otherwise. Sounds bad I know but ANY tablet you get will crash at some point. Also in order to play certain movie files you have to buy a plugin. A little annoying but if you can afford to hash out 350 bucks for this, then whats another 15?

Other Thoughts: People complain about the speakers being lousy, and I really don't know why. The device is relatively small. The speakers are very small. They put out quite decent sound for such a device. The camera people complain about as well. No its not 10mp quality. But it isn't TERRIBLE either. You CAN tell what someone looks like very well with it. There are a few tiny little nit-picky things I could get into. But this is probably the BEST tablet of its size in this price range. And to me it rivals the Galaxy tab and the ipad. And you pay half the price.

2 out of 5 eggsdidn't work well

Pros: lots

Cons: the Device thought it was still connected to my computer ,and when I tried unstalling android and then reinstalling it it still thought it was connected to my computer, so it was not able to install apps and made a very annoying beeping noise the kind that tells you that you have hard drive problems

Other Thoughts: lots of good things just the few bad things made it imposable to use

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Device, if not faulty

Pros: Faster than my Evo 4g, handles music and video very well. The extra apps (music player, video player, file manager) Archos has developed are nice additions to a stock firmware!

Cons: Touchscreen isn't the best, but pretty good for the overall price. No Android Market by default - requires a special install.

Other Thoughts: First device received had a bad touchscreen: input response would jump between 5 and 10 pixels and then lag 2 extra movements in the wrong direction. Horrible! I had to RMA it and the new one actually works well. Make sure you RMA before installing the dual-boot development firmware!!!

Pros: * Great Storage Space

Cons: *Low Quality Support from ARCHOS
*Insufficient Memory
*Poorly implemented Android Firmware
*Lagging Touchscreen
*Terrible Battery Life
*Bluetooth Tether issues
*USB connectivity advertisement almost useless
*CPU/Memory does not make this a good gaming tablet
*Random erratic behavior/reboots from device.
*NO DUAL BOOT as Previously stated "Out of Box as a Standard" on the Archos Website.

Other Thoughts: Have had the device for 27 days - The device came defective with touchscreen issues out of box. RMA in process.

Do not buy this tablet unless you absolutely NEED the 250GB storage space.

I created a PDF of the original text of the website stating dual-boot functionality was out of the box as a standard. they changed the website though. Support said they have no policy regarding this issue. Will NEVER buy Archos again.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Company, Decent Unit

Pros: * Huge HDD
* Decent Construction
* OK Price
* Android OS

Cons: * CPU & MEMORY make it impossible to play higher-end games such as Dungeon Defenders, Etc.
* No Hardware Buttons - Software Buttons Annoying
* Touchscreen Not so sensitive
* Company Falsely Advertised (at least until 3/5/2011) that the device was DUAL-BOOT by default, with Android and a varient of Linux - IT IS NOT. To Dual-Boot, you MUST INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTY
* RMA Escalations did not respond to inquiries regarding this ILLEGAL advertising for 14+ days (Still no response).

Other Thoughts: In the process of RMA'ing this device due to a faulty touchscreen out-of-box. The RMA was fast and easy, but the Tech I got a hold of told me I was out of luck regarding their illegal misrepresentation of the dual-boot. Their website is now changed, correcting the issue. They didn't ever respond to my emails and the site remained the same for months as I was waiting for tax time to order this. Yet, a week or so after I send an email threatening legal action, the site changes. No response. I WILL be contacting the CPA and BBB regarding this issue, because it's just plain WRONG. I purchased this specifically because of those reasons over other Tablets.
OVERALL: Unless you NEED the HDD space, go with a different tablet.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: great for kids, for tech heavy applications tablets are still a ways to go. nice large screen, nice sound, display and video are amazing

Cons: slow memory, some applications take a good chunk of memory and you have to wait for the app to load, or just kill it.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Size, concept, decent screen, 250gb drive

Cons: - Battery life is dismal. Battery dies in less than 3 days with no use. Archos site claims up to 10 hours of web browsing. I was barely able to get 2 hours.

- Bluetooth and/or USB tethering does NOT work on "most phones" as claimed by Archos. Phone tethers fine on my netbook PC.

- Archos claims USB devices can be easily connected. That is once you find the CORRECT USB micro host cable AND your USB device is powered (or uses very little power.)

- Loses wifi connection if not used daily.

- Dismal customer support from Archos.

Other Thoughts: Great idea, poorly implemented. Not only is the device flawed but the complete lack of customer service from Archos is astonishing. Phone calls, emails and RMA requests go mostly unanswered.

When you do get a tech on the phone they lie. First about USB connectivity "We don't support that" until I pointed to their website. Then about Bluetooth tethering "Your phone carrier charges more for that feature." They do not.

Promised calls from Archos managers never come.

The latest firmware only caused the battery problem to get worse and solved no other problems for me.
