5 out of 5 eggsGood Value

Pros: I have had consisitently good results from Western Digital hard drives. Years of trouble free operation. I purchased two of these drives from NewEgg during a recent promotion at a great price. As always NewEgg shipped very well packaged and the drives arrived intact.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: These aren't as fast as an SSD, or even some other HDD offerings, but they make great data storage drives. I'm using mine in a system with two SSDs as primary drives. The combination of capacity, lower power usage, and reduced heat generation are also a plus. Solid value at the promotional price.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat 1TB Drive

Pros: Fairly silent. Works quickly for basic tasks. Great for storage and keeps VERY cool. I have this hard drive inside a Gigabyte BRIX Pro as the main storage drive (not OS) and even with the nearby components shooting up to 60-70C, this drive maintains a healthy 35-42C temp range. Operation is great as you would expect from any 5400rpm SATA 6.0Gb/s drive. No problems thus far. Western Digital is a reliable HDD brand.

Very slim, will probably fit in any place that access to a 2.5" HDD space.

Cons: None really. If this drive dies within 2-3 years, which I do not expect and do not hope so, I will report back, but so far so good.

Other Thoughts: Wish this was in the 2TB variant. Currently using the drive to hold images and running indie games as well as my emulators. Zero problems thus far.

3 out of 5 eggsDead drive

Pros: Price was good.

Cons: Bought 2 drives 2 months ago today, while they were on sale. Opened today to install in customers laptop. First drive I installed is completely dead. Second drive is being installed as I write this. So far, so good.

Other Thoughts: Something told me if I bought these for later replacements, that I take a chance of 1 or more being D.O.A.. I've never had a problem with W/D before. Guess I should have read Neweggs 30 day return policy before buying.

1 out of 5 eggsHot & slow

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: run slow and hot

Other Thoughts: It is kind much slower than I have expected.

And, even worse, running for one hour, and the laptop becomes very hot.

Is it normal for this model of hard drive? or I have a defect one?

Cons: I would expect it runs faster. It is kind a little too slow.

1 out of 5 eggsChip-click. Another DoA from NewEgg

Pros: small size. clean delivery.

Cons: Ran really hot while not formatting.

Other Thoughts: I understand that NewEgg is like Ross clothing, that NewEgg gets COSMETIC seconds, but I'm getting sick of the wasted time, effort, and cost with having to do RMA's. I lay this on WD and other manufacturers. Their quality control seems to dump bad hardware on NewEgg. Shame WD!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent midrange laptop disk

Pros: Fast for a 5400 RPM disk. High capacity as 2.5"x9.5mm drives go. Makes a little whirr but overall extremely quiet. I have to put my ear up to it to hear any chatter when it seeks.

Too early to say anything about reliability, but I've had wonderful experiences with WD. Only one I've had fail before it was really old was defective and got RMA'd.

Cons: Not edible.

Other Thoughts: I'm using it as a data disk in the optical drive bay of a laptop that has an SSD as its main disk. I specifically looked for a 5400 RPM one so it would be cooler, quieter and eat less battery, so this disk is just about perfect for what I want. I'd have gone with Green instead, but they tend to be thicker than 9.5 mm and cost over twice what this drive does.

I haven't tried running an OS off it, but I'd expect it to run more than well enough for everyday use. But for a higher performance system I'd obviously sacrifice a little capacity and battery life and go with a 7200 RPM Black.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Bought total of five, one was defective, appears to not be Newegg's fault as packing was great! The replacement did not have any issue. They are all still running now after many months of usage ranging from 2 months to a year.

Cons: Bought a total of five of these hard drives, one failed, Newegg replaced with no hassle. Please note you have to pay to ship back drive to their RMA Office in Cali. Also note that they recommend UPS but in some cases that might be way more expensive than other carriers (i.e. USPS or Fedex) shop around for best shipping price. For me UPS was double shipping cost of USPS.

Other Thoughts: If you're a newbie with bare drives and you're intending to install in a computer with an existing hard drive (that already has OS) . You need to go through several simple steps to get this drive running. After connecting to your mobo right click My Computer, select manage, select hard drive and partition.

If you're putting this drive into a new machine with no existing hard drive then no need for above step.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Laptop Drive

Pros: Works perfectly

Cons: Wasn't free?

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a dead stock drive in a friend's laptop. Haven't had any issues with it.
