3 out of 5 eggsWorks, but couple things to note

Pros: Works. Pretty fast. comes with low profile adapter if you need it. Small card.

Cons: had to use driver CD which may be an issue if you don't have an optical drive.

Other Thoughts: I installed this thing and i went online to try and find the most current driver for it, but couldn't find one that worked. Had to use the one on the included disc, which for some people may be an issue if you don't have an optical drive.

Aside from that though, it works and it seems pretty quick. Not exactly "10x faster" as advertised, more like 5-6 times faster.

I did a rudimentary test, transferring some video files to a usb 3.0 capable portable hard drive, both writing to and reading from. I transferred the exact same folder of files in both directions both via USB 2 and USB 3.

USB 2 gave me ~22MB/sec when writing TO the portable HDD. and ~33MB/sec writing FROM the portable hdd.

USB 3 gave me ~110MB/sec when writing TO the portable HDD and ~115MB/sec writing FROM the portable hdd.

So it's definitely fast, dunno how that compares to other cards.

Other things to note: the card does not have internal pins for hooking up case mounted USB 3.0 ports.

Also, USB 3.0 cards need power, so you'll need to run a cable from your PSU directly to the card, so make sure you have the right cable around.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Installs quickly
Runs at full USB 3.0 speed
Has 4 ports
Uses SATA power

Cons: none yet!

Other Thoughts: Adding USB 3.0 to a slim form machine is a bit harder than it should be. I needed a low profile card, to start. I am leery of buying things with no reviews (mine is now the first one). This is a cheap Chicom card, and that's reflected in the packaging and design. However it does work. As for longevity, I've not had it long enough to say. I may update this review in a year or so.

Most of the low profile cards out there only offer 2 ports. This one has 4. I also picked this because it uses SATA power not MOLEX. My power supply is maxxed out on connectors, and doesn't have MOLEX at all - so I got a SATA splitter cable and jumpered it off the optical drive. Open up your case and see what your power setup is before buying anything!

Installation was simple. Once I got the cables arranged, popped the card in and tightened it down (screws included). Windows 8.1 picked up the driver immediately, I didn't need the included mini-CD.

I currently have two separate USB3 hard drives connected. One is a 3TB WD MyBook, and the other is an external enclosure with a 1TB 5400 RPM Green Drive. The computer has an internal SSD. Copying files between the two external drives can reach about 75 MB/s, slower than I expected - turns out the bottleneck is the slower 5400 RPM green drive. Copying from the SSD to the new MyBook went much faster, upwards of 130 MB/s. Higher speeds may be possible with SSDs on both ends. In any case, it's quite sufficient for me, and a vast improvement over the 20-30 MB/s USB 2 speeds.

In summary this card did exactly as it was supposed to. I'm very pleased! Having USB3 is a major plus for me.
