This review is from: Cooler Master V1000 - 1000W Power Supply with Fully Modular Cables and 80 PLUS Gold Certification

Pros: None

Cons: 1st unit - DOA
2nd unit - Intermittent power reboots.

Manufacturer Response:

Good Afternoon Justin,

I apologize your V1000 is not working correctly for you as this is truly an odd occurrence as you purchased one of our premium power supplies. Did you make sure the 24 Pin ATX is connected to the motherboard and the opposite end of the 10 Pin and 18 Pin is connected to the power supply? Contact us through our CM Fanzone for further assistance and an RMA Request at the links below.

I look forward to your response.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic PSU overall

This review is from: Cooler Master V1000 - 1000W Power Supply with Fully Modular Cables and 80 PLUS Gold Certification

Pros: The V1000 has great power, lots of connections/cables and is very silent. Lots of amps on the 12V rail. I love the full modularity.

Cons: I wish the cables were round for a nicer look inside cases with a clear panel and for easier cable management. Theses cables are flat, so you have to take more precaution for clean routing without creating twists and buldges.

Other Thoughts: Great PSU overall, with plenty of power for multiple addons.

5 out of 5 eggsInformal 1000W PSU review.

This review is from: Cooler Master V1000 - 1000W Power Supply with Fully Modular Cables and 80 PLUS Gold Certification

Pros: I've had this for about a year with no issue. This is the nicest power supply I've owned to date. Even comes with a bag for all of the modular cables. Provides more power than probably anyone needs in an Nvidia/Intel gaming rig short of 4-way SLI. See other thoughts; I list power demands of my components under benchmark and real world conditions.

Cons: Nothing to do with the power supply, but if you get a CM product with mail-in rebate, don't hold your breath. When I built my rig I had 3 components with CM rebates. I only ever got 2 of the 3 and it took them 6 months to fulfill.

Other Thoughts: Measured PSU power draw increase from idle during benchmarks:
i7-4770k @ 4.4GHz - Prime95 small FFT's stress test: 133W
Gigabyte GTX680 4GB OC(two-way SLI@1202MHz core & 6508MHz MEM)GPU draw during unigine heaven, max settings @ 1080P: 295W avg, 325W max.
Corsair Vengeance 2133 RAM draw during benchmark: 10-29W
Fan controller +12W (8 fans(6x120mm, 1x140mm, 1x230mm@100%)
RGB LED controller 2W
Power draw from computer at idle: 78W(includes all previous components, two XSPC D5 water pumps @ 1900RPM, 3 Samsung 840 Pro's striped, Creative SoundBlaster Z sound card, & one BDRW drive).
Max theoretical power draw on PSU: 538W (579W drawn @ 93% efficiency)
Gaming operation with everything set to max playing Crysis 3 @1440P: 437W (470W drawn @ 93% efficiency)
Note: these power levels are based off of the power that the PSU is using, the output should be 80-93% efficiency according to unit specifications, so power output may in fact be less than noted. Calculations made assuming that PSU will not be more than 93% efficient.
All that being said, you generally want to shoot for a PSU capable of at least +30% over what you expect being able to throw at it. This will make a good PSU last longer and improve system stability.

3 out of 5 eggscustomer service

This review is from: Cooler Master V1000 - 1000W Power Supply with Fully Modular Cables and 80 PLUS Gold Certification

Pros: Great amount of power

Cons: customer service, sent it back after three months of use, priority express, my tracking number stated they received it in two days, bam, that was quick. here I am 3 weeks later with no PSU, I talked to a representative two weeks ago and they claimed they were doing yearly inventory and that the PSU tested will get right on it, a week later, nada still!!!!!

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsbest psu yet

This review is from: Cooler Master V1000 - 1000W Power Supply with Fully Modular Cables and 80 PLUS Gold Certification

Pros: 83a on single 12v rail so it can run multiple gpus w/o issues!

Cons: comes with cables for 4 gpus but no way it could power 4 since 780ti tdp is 250w but it is very close and 290x is 300w so no way it could work

Other Thoughts: 12v x 83a =996watts ALL PSU manufacturers should use this number when they label a psu i'm tired of them saying 600w and only having 300 usable on 12v or worse having multiple 12v rails that are unmarked (i've had to open a few OEM psus to see where pcie connectors go)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat 100% modular 1000w PSU

This review is from: Cooler Master V1000 - 1000W Power Supply with Fully Modular Cables and 80 PLUS Gold Certification

Pros: -100% modular
-Ribbon style cables look fantastic
-Fan is quiet under load
-Compact size for 1kW unit
-Enough cables for 2/3 high end graphics cards
-Packaging was nice and I like the nylon pouch/bag

Cons: -Pcie cables are bit short. For large or larger cases, this is a pain. I barely made it though not in the manner I wanted to route them for visual appearance.
-Ticking noise from the fans. Occasional and can get annoying. This happens on both units I purchased (one used and one new from a retailer).
-Price is a tad high considering the Platinum units are not too far off. Luckily, CM had a great MIR to make this better (so not really a con tbh).

Other Thoughts: I have two units in tandem powering on a quad crossfire setup gaming system (X79). With two, there's more then enough power and a lot left over compared to more ultra expensive uber high-end single units (EVGA/Corsair). Granted, you'll need a dual psu case for such a setup. Everything has been stellar and I've never had an issue with power delivery to my whole system.

The cons really should knock down at least one star but knowing my case pushes the dimensions of an standard atx case and rebate to lower the price helps retain it.

The only concern I have is the ticking noise of the fans. I really don't want to go through the hassle of replacing both just for an occasional ticking. You don't notice with the speakers or using headphones.

Overall, I highly recommend this unit if you can get one under $200.

Also, CM has launched a V1200 unit for those that need a bit more power. Cooler Master customer service has always been top-notch.

4 out of 5 eggsGood

This review is from: Cooler Master V1000 - 1000W Power Supply with Fully Modular Cables and 80 PLUS Gold Certification

Pros: Price to Power ratio is decent. It's fully modular. Doesn't have a lot of fancy graphics or anything on the side that are gaudy. Seems very quiet.

Cons: It doesn't have as many plugs for components as many people expect out of a 1000W power supply.

Other Thoughts: I haven't REALLY tested it yet, but so far I'm satisfied. Only 4 egg review simply because it didn't pleasantly surprise me.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We appreciate constructive reviews such as yours. Would you be able to contact us so we can get more details in regards to your cons and get more feedback regarding this model power supply?

4 out of 5 eggsGood but one change would make a difference

This review is from: Cooler Master V1000 - 1000W Power Supply with Fully Modular Cables and 80 PLUS Gold Certification

Pros: Easy, straight forward power supply, seems to be working with no issues, able to power R9 295X2 with no issues which was my goal.

Cons: Reason why I returned and only gave four stars is because of the PCIe cables, splitting them at the card causes a mess in my opinion. It's enough that I returned it based on aesthetics. I'm personally not going to buy extension kits to hide the mess. Also as mentioned, the 4 pin molex with two connections each with the 4 pin for floppy? (can't remember when I've last seen that). Three connections each would have been better so you don't run splitters with additional clutter. Sorry, I'm knocking an egg off for poor cable management. Part of me wants to knock it down to three eggs.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We appreciate your feedback regarding the V1000. We would like to get more information / feedback on the cables for the power supply. Would you be able to contact us?

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Cooler Master V1000 - 1000W Power Supply with Fully Modular Cables and 80 PLUS Gold Certification

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Is this possible? $1500 on a DIY gaming machine and the power supply doesn't work. VOM indicates no voltage, fan doesn't turn. All my fancy parts sitting here with no power. Not happy.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Bill,

We sincerely apologize for the trouble you had with our power supply. Please make sure that you are using the cables that came with the V series and not another power supply. Using cables from other power supplies will not work with this power supply causing it not to turn on. Also make sure you plug in both the 10 pin as well as the 19 pin. If you have done these things and it still doesn't work, please contact us asap so we can rectify the situation.

Respectully,

Marvin R.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Power supply

This review is from: Cooler Master V1000 - 1000W Power Supply with Fully Modular Cables and 80 PLUS Gold Certification

Pros: 1000 watts of clean, stable power. Top reviews all around and the best O.E.M.'s most stable new platform. Voltage control beyond excellent, same with ripple suppression, and efficiency just south of platinum. Researched dozens of PSUs in this watt range, and none could come close to this one's performance or value. So far, so good, and my BIOS shows rock solid voltages on all rails. All cables are the good all-black flat type, except the 24-pin main, it's round and sleeved, but has all-black wires for a clean look.

Cons: The cables. They are plenty long enough to route behind the tray, even the 8-pin CPU power, but the connector count is low for a 1000 watt PSU. There's only 3 SATA power cables with 3 connectors each, and all the taps are close together at the far end. This is fine if all your drives are stacked up together in racks, but in newer cases with separate SSD racks, you may not have a SATA power cable left for your optical drive (if any). Same deal with 4-pin Molex, only 2 cables with 2 taps each (one with useless floppy connector), so even with adapters, your drive configuration may be limited. Then there's the PCIe cables. 4 of them, each with 2 x 6+2 pin at the end, which means if you want to power your 2-connector card with separate cables from the PSU, you'll have 2 extra 6+2 pins hanging off your card, plus the unneeded 2-pin wires if your card takes 2 x 6-pin. That looked ridiculous, so i settled for using just one cable to power both 6-pins. It still looks terrible with the unused 2-pins bunched up in there. Plan on buying a single-sleeved extension kit for PCIe if you want any kind of clean look for your build...

Other Thoughts: No eggs taken off for the less-than-optimal cable arrangement. All my hardware is powered up, with one Molex cable to spare, but the lighting system I ordered will soon require both of those taps.
