Pros: It works (see cons) Short delay to talk to tech support.

Cons: Installed on Windows 8.1.. VERY SLOW update - took 3 seconds to update display. Tech said move display closer. I moved it next to computer, and still took 3 seconds. Try using a mouse, waiting 3 seconds to see where your mouse cursor is!!

But the clincher was you could NOT setup the wireless screen as an extended (or 2nd) screen - it would only duplicate what was on the computer monitor! Ad is misleading - says you can extend monitor (you can't), allowing you to project one screen while working on a 2nd (you can't).

5 out of 5 eggsSBWD100KIT01

Pros: Good picture quality, easy setup. I didn't use included cd. I downloaded latest software from Actiontec website, which also allowed me to update firmware to latest version. My laptop, in the same room as my large screen tv, is running Windows 8.1.

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsPoor support, no planned future for product

Pros: Device works extremely well for close transmissions from a modern Android device, though I have seen unexplained stuttering in movies (Galaxy S3). Nexus 4 was able to play movies with no stutter. I've used Intel WiDi devices before, so I know that responsive movie playback is possible.

Cons: Bad pressing of the disc means I was unable to install the screenbeam software, which is required for the dongle on PCs that don't come with WiDi/Miracast support. So half of the package (the transmission dongle) is unusable, and it's the part that makes this kit appealing, as it allows you to use wireless display with laptops and other devices that don't already support it. Supposedly it's available for download online, for users who don't have an optical drive...

But unlike what the documentation says, the software is *not* available for download on the site, and the company is unable or unwilling to make it available for download. I've owned the device for over 2 weeks, and have had a support ticket open for nearly that long, with no response from them. It is not hard to publicly post promised content, much less send an email with a private download link. It's difficult to believe a company can stay solvent in a modern economy if it takes them two weeks to upload an installer and put a link in a page, and if they can leave a simple support ticket open for two weeks. It gives me nightmares imagining their corporate structure. Even sending another disc would have been a simple resolution. No resolution at all shows a disinterest in customer satisfaction.

Keep in mind, no site downloads clearly show that there will be no product updates. It also shows a lack of commitment to the product, and is frankly surprising, given the rising support for the Miracast standard and the fact that this product has been out for 6 months already. Any product which is not being updated will be obsolete in short order, especially as MiraCast is a quickly evolving standard.

Do yourself a favor and buy the hardware from a company that takes the technology seriously. This is apparently just a toy they created to cash in on a gimmick.

Also, no securing the display connection. You should probably be careful about leaving this onscreen at a convention, or an opportunistic member of the audience could take advantage of it. Wait to connect the HDMI until you've paired.

Other Thoughts: Surely you're also tired of companies releasing products without supporting them. Direct your purchasing power to the companies who stand behind their products.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Installation was very simple and program worked on my windows 7 machines. Comes complete with everything you need to start viewing to second screen in minutes, including HDMI cable. Very compact receiver, approximate size of classic iPod.

Cons: Range is extremely short, a desktop 20-25 feet away, direct line of sight could not connect. Laptops connected in 10-12 foot range but audio had a popping and crackling sound and slightly out of sync. Receiver unit gets very hot and not sure if this is good for the long term use. I tried to install on a Vista machine with no luck, but it states only Windows 7 & 8. I would rather purchase a 25-30 foot HDMI cable for half the price, and 100% reliability.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this with the idea of streaming to TV with a better signal than my X-box 360, but failed!

5 out of 5 eggsUndecided

Pros: -Worked as advertised.
-Reasonable pricepoint for wireless display.

Cons: -Not really a con on the product, more so just bad luck on my part but it was defective.
-Reciever runs really warm.

Other Thoughts: The product I recieved was defective because it would work for about 10 seconds then cut out. Customer supported sounded shocked with the outcome, which leads me to believe that I am the first person this has happened to. My personal advice would be that if you are going to use this for a laptop, it would be perfect. For the most part it is portable and would be great for presentations ect. If you are planning on using it for a PC with dual displays to connect it to a tv(Me), then this may not be the best solution for you. Also I would make sure that your display is 1080x720 because the output of the ScreenBeam is such. If your display has a higher resolution it distorts your PC's display, although you probably won't have this problem with a laptop. I would not let my experience influence your purchase because I believe that if I were to get another one rather than a refund, it would work perfect which is why I gave the product a 5/5.
