Obihai OBi202 VoIP Phone Adapter with Router - SIP, T.38 Fax Support

Use your existing corded or cordless phone(s) and your broadband Internet to make and receive calls over the Internet for FREE (or at a very low-cost).
Via the OBi202's two (2) on-board phone connections, you have the power make and receive phone calls using VoIP services for FREE or at a fraction of the cost a traditional phone company would charge. The OBi202 supports up to four (4) VoIP services like Google Voice, RingTo, Anveo, Phonepower, OneSuite or a multitude of SIP Internet phone services as well as calls to other OBi endpoints via Obihai's free OBiTALK network. The OBi202 also supports the T.38 fax standard for reliable facsimile calls over the Internet.

The OBi202 is equipped with a two-port router with integrated quality of service (QoS). The OBi202 may be installed in a variety of network environments and/or locations where upstream voice traffic needs to be prioritized above other types of traffic like web surfing and uploading pictures and movies.

The OBi202 USB port serves multiple purposes when used with Obihai USB accessory products. Using the OBiWiFi Wireless Adapter, the OBi202 can be placed anywhere within range of an 802.11b/g/n access point. The OBiBT Bluetooth wireless adapter allows a USB-equipped OBi device to pair with a mobile phone so you can place calls and answer calls using any standard home phones connected to the OBi. The OBiBT works with most mobile phones using Bluetooth wireless technology. The OBiLINE adapter allows a USB-equipped OBi device to make calls to a Land-Line Service from Phones Connected to the OBi.

1 out of 5 eggsI would love to give this 0 stars - breaks exactly 1 month after return policy

Pros: None!!!!

Cons: this pile of garbage breaks in about a month exactly after the warranty/return policy ends. shame on newegg for having such poor return policy. Stay way - so far two of these cheap things broke on me - one in exactly 30 days and another in 4 months!

Other Thoughts: Stay AWAY!!!!

4 out of 5 eggssome problems

Pros: Saves money. Since you can use google voice on this device, you can have pretty much unlimited free phone service with just an internet connection. You can also sign up for things like phone power to get the extra features, like 911 service, call ID with name (you only get the call id with just the number on GV). The phone quality is very good and I have had no problems with sound quality, delays or echos when talking on this. You can use regular phones, so no need for special phones. There is distinctive ringing, so if you have multiple providers and numbers, you can set each one up to ring in a different way so you know which number they are calling from.

I use GV and phone power in conjunction on this, and each one to a separate line going out. Phone port 1 and 2 respectively. doing this, I get 2 lines to use, but have them both ring in so I can answer on either phone port. also, using obi devices, you can get huge discounts on VOIP service providers. I get unlimited phone use though PP for only 60 a year. That is 5 dollars a month. and that is with taxes. Other plans are even cheaper. It makes a great way to save money. If you are fine with just one line, just go with GV and use their free phone service. then you pay nothing a year for regular calls. I like duel lines, so that is why I went with both providers. It is very easy to setup.

Cons: When trying to open ports, it does not work right. I have my setup like this. Cable modem - obi202 - switch - computers. My one desktop, I have Utorrent on. I tried opening a port on the obi to to allow uploads, and no matter what I tried or did, I could not get a port open. I have tried every combination, and feature that i could think of, and still could not get a port to open. i had no problems with my last VOIP adapter set up, in the same way. But this one is a no go on this feature.

When I tried switching my computer back to DHCP from a static IP, I had to pull the power plug to clear the memory to get my computer back on the net. I tried refreshing network settings and more, but the device would not release the info from the static IP until I unplugged it. and yes, I tried the reboot feature. It did not help.. Other then that, the router feature works fine. A easy way around this problem is to just use a regular router instead of using this as a router. Just know that they do update software on this device, and by default, it is set to automatically update it when a new version of the software comes out. So, they may fix this problem in the future. Also, this is a VOIP box, not a true full blown router like you get at the store, so minor things in the router setup are to be expected. They do make a wireless adapter to use with this, to make it a wireless router too. But, I did not buy the dongle or adapter to make it wireless, so I can say nothing about that part of it.

Other Thoughts: I have had the device for 4 or 5 months, and other then the network port problem, i have not had any real problems with it. this device does have a lot of good features though. you can set it up, so if say, you have 2 providers.. GV and phone power.. you can set it up so GV goes to phone port one, and PP goes to phone port 2, so only the phones hooked up to that port will ring. You can do the same, but going out too. This is nice, because if you need 2 lines, you can have one provider for each port, so you can have 2 calls going at the same time, with just one device.

One bad thing, which i only partly bad, is if you plan on using GV (google voice) with this adapter, you much have a Gmail account to hook it up. Even though it is not stated you need one, i have tried setting it up using other email accounts, and GV would not setup and work until i used a gmail account. This, i do not believe is a problem with other providers, on GV. But considering it is free, that is a minor complaint.

If you are planning on using GV, and want to port your number, there are a few things your should know. GV only accepts cell phone numbers when porting. if you have a VOIP service, or a land line, you can not port your number over to GV. A way around this is to get a prepaid phone, port your number to the prepaid cell, then port your number from the cell over to GV. If you are going to have a secondary provider, like phone power, for 911 and the other extra's with using them, you can port pretty much any number to them.

Overall, i have no real complaints. I love my device and the service with it. I just wish that i heard about this device years ago. I am happy enough with it, that I am thinking about getting another one for a friend. If you are thinking about getting one of these devices, and plan on using GV, just know that not all obi devices are GV compatible. Only the 100 and 200 are GV compatible. The 300 series are not GV compatible.

so yes, i do recommend it, I do like it, and am very happy with it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks nice for a home phone . Expectations met.

Pros: I've got it to use for my home phone. Works nice. Simple enough to install for non experts and at the same time has a lot of options under hood for experts. I am very satisfied with it, no complains at all.
As since I am tired to pay super-over-priced fees to communication monster companies I set up VoIP line so this equipment handles all my home phone needs.

5 out of 5 eggsSave a Bundle

Pros: Works flawlessly with Google Voice
Great sound
911 support (one time fee)

Cons: Slightly delay when picking up phone before dial tone starts

Other Thoughts: Really, the dial tone delay is my only complainant. I have used Vonage and MagicJack for years but nether provided anything more than this does and both charged an outrageous amount per month. I now have these installed in a couple of my retired relatives homes in order to cut out their phone bills.

Also, despite what people say in the Q&A section, Google Voice is fully 100% supported.

5 out of 5 eggsJust works

Pros: Helped me to finally dump my ancient VoIP that was working here and there, dropped their customer service and keep on jacking up the prices.
Took about 5 minutes to configure.

Cons: Appear to be a bit quiet, but I guess I can adjust a handset volume.

Other Thoughts: Used it to dump my Teleblend (ex Sunrocket). A way overdue act.
Used free service to port my Teleblend number and forward it to google voice.
Everything seems to work, but you got to keep in mind what is forwarded where.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent home telephony box

Pros: Small
Very simple to set up
Supports Google Voice as well as other SIP providers
Up to 4 lines (providers) and 2 phones

Cons: Documentation can be hard to find
Support via forums can be hit or miss
Documentation for advanced features non-existant

Other Thoughts: Forget junk phone service from your broadband provider, get cheap and easy service from Google Voice or any of the very many SIP providers out there in the world. I've had a 200 for a year and recently added a 202 for the 2 phone line capability. Far easier to set up for home use than Asterix, self-contained in one little box, no further fees to pay if you use Google Voice. Highly recommended!
