5 out of 5 eggsGood Floppy drive but not for the beginner

Pros: read all my old disks, Installed proper driver and worked great.

Cons: You have to work in Command Prompt and try to remember the old DOS commands to use! An instruction manual with basic Copy Commands like xcopy would be very helpful! disk comes with no documentation, so be ready to google xcopy commands. found a really good You Tube video to refresh my memory.

Other Thoughts: Hey! Print a 10 cent instruction manual to help work in command prompt!

5 out of 5 eggsIt's Cheap & Works Perfectly

Pros: It works. It is able to read, write, and format diskettes. It has rubber feet on the bottom, an eject button on the front, and an 18" USB cord in the back. All function as they are supposed to.

Cons: It's old, slow technology. But that's really a pro, because we can still get it if we need it.

Other Thoughts: Everybody writing reviews for diskette drives seems to feel the need to tell why they need one. It's like we have to justify ourselves for such a whacky purchase. My girlfriend has a diskette fetish. She's also into parallel ports and cosplay.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks perfectly!

Pros: Instantly recognized as removable media drive on Win 8.1--even assigns it that nostalgic "Drive A" recognizing it as a floppy. Worked wonderfully without even having to install a driver. Used it to read a pile of practically ancient floppies I had around--even managed to read some pretty beat-up looking ones.

Cons: The drive itself can't overcome the limitations of Win 8 in handling floppies--the OS can only reliably read from perfectly intact file systems. And don't plan on being able to format anything! (the OS returns an error saying it can't support formatting this type of disk... the floppy is definitely dead). Not this product's fault though!

Other Thoughts: An excellent value--reliable reading of legacy floppy disks at a great price. Solidly constructed, easy to use. Best fourteen bucks I've spent in a long time!

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Design/Interface; Faulty Function; Total Fail

Pros: compact; fast shipping

Cons: Must be plugged in EACH time to access/read diskette;
Treats EVERY floppy as unformatted, EVEN IF IT WAS JUST FORMATTED USING THIS SAME DRIVE.

Printed label on manufacturer's box says CDR w/driver and user manual were included, but none supplied

Other Thoughts: I can certainly understand why a CDR w/driver might not be included, nor a user manual. For a USB floppy drive...why? So, OK. But to expect the user to have to unplug and then re-plug in the drive each and every time they want to read a diskette? Ridiculous. And, after having about a dozen diskettes that I wanted to read/retrieve be ID'd as needing formatting I used te drive to format one I could safely lose/discard. I used the quick format option, the software interface responded as expected, and the drive hummed and clicked, and the software reported the diskette as formatted. I unplugged and re-plugged in the USB cable (ugh-stupid design) and was promptly told the diskette needed to be formatted. Needless to say I'm no longer trusting the ability of this drive to read ANY of the info I wanted to retrieve.

SO not happy - RMA time, NewEgg. Bought this product because it had 8 perfect reviews, and now I wonder how many were legit.
