1 out of 5 eggsSave yourself the hassle...

Pros: It's black and came with an adjustable stand.

Cons: Being a desktop microphone, one would assume that you would be able to place it within about a foot or two of the user, point it towards the sound of their voice and it should work just fine. But the unfortunate truth is that the mic worked but only if it was in your mouth. No, that's not a joke at all; it would simply not pick up my voice unless the thing was between my lips or I was shouting. On top of that, the cord was short. The sound quality was just like the physical quality; garbage.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. I made the mistake when I figured I would get a cheaply built product that worked somewhat decently and would last at least a couple months before it just died. Too bad I only had it for 2 days before I RMA'd it for product dissatisfaction. And the only reason I RMA'd it was because I have Premier and I get free return shipping and no restock fee. Otherwise, I would have thrown it in the trash. Some final words of advice; If you have the sudden urge to spend $8 on this piece of junk, do yourself a favor and light the bills on fire. You'll have more satisfaction watching flames than you will using this so called "microphone."

1 out of 5 eggsCame broken.

Pros: None

Cons: Slow shipping, came broken. Plugged it in, had to have it practivally inside of my mouth to even show one bar of voice coming out of it when trying to configure it.

Other Thoughts: I'm annoyed this took 10 days to get to me and once it did, it didn't work.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Mic!

Pros: Sold mic for the price. Buy this mic if you're on a budget.

Cons: The only problem I had was the shipping. The mic box that it was in, was all cut up and broken when I got it, BUT the mic still worked so that's not a biggie.

5 out of 5 eggsDidnt fully test it

Pros: Mainly used by my mom for Rosetta Stone. No other purpose.
It was useful and it work

Cons: This is not your conversation/recording/Ventrilo mic. You can get a better one for much better quality and much more money of course

4 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely decent for a budget item

Pros: Was using a Shure SM58 (Studio quality mic) via XLR to 1/8" stereo cable. Decent microphone but needs phantom power for practical uses... something not exactly feasible on most consumer sound cards. Everything had to be set to max and that tended to introduce a lot of noise and artifacting.

I just needed something for voice in multiplayer games, so I was looking at cheaper options. This mic was on sale for $2 so I said "what the hey."

Way, way better than expected. I'm actually impressed with the general sound quality of the microphone. Plugged into a SB Audigy II, this mic only needs to be set to 3 or 4 steps above mute in Volume Control for it to come in loud and clear. No Mic Boost needed! Decent frequency response (not flat, but no complaints) and sounds rich enough. You won't sound thin or tinny.

Cons: Base is light and tends to tip over easily. Weigh it down by gluing something inside the hollow base. Adding felt skidpads along contact surfaces helps, too.

Microphone is more directional than omnidirectional. If you want to keep background noise to a minimum, you will need to keep volume levels low and speak directly into it. Microphone tends to easily pick up noises conducted through the surface it is sitting on. So yes, I tend to hear through my headphones the sound of my mouse sliding on the desk.

Very sensitive to pops. (Heavy "P" sounds in speech, for example) This has no real pop filtering or windscreening. I took a spare headphones earpad and put it over the mic, using a tie strap to keep it in place. Does the job.

All of the above accounts for my total sum of complaints about the product and the minus one egg. All trivial issues that can be rectified with a minimum of MacGuyvery.

Other Thoughts: This microphone has a lot of potential for modifications. Base, ball socket and microphone holder and the mic itself are all separate pieces. Someone crafty enough could take the microphone alone and mod it into a headset if they needed to. The ability to articulate the mic with the ball socket and base is exceptional. I can rotate it 180 degrees and rest it on my chest when wanting to lean back in my chair for some games.

This obviously isn't going to be used for high quality recording (loud sounds can potentially overwhelm it though I haven't clipped this microphone with any shouting on multiplayer games) but for general purposes involving voice... yeah, this is an excellent mic and absolutely worth the typical price of $5. Maybe with a better pop/windscreen filter integrated or offered as a clip over attachment, this would be an excellent $10 mic.

Get this if you're not a headset fan and just need something basic that will do the job.
