5 out of 5 eggsSaves money in long run

Pros: I maintain dozens of computers and network in a commercial environment. We would lose a computer every few months when storms came through. All were getting zapped through network cards.

Everything was already on UPS, but these DNET1s have put a stop to computers getting zapped over our network. We have not lost a pc in nearly two years since installing them. We were losing one every month or two before installation.

Cons: You may never need this type of surge protection. But if you do, it can save you the cost of a new computer, server, etc.

Other Thoughts: Understanding what this device does, it not only prevents catastrophic damage due to lightening, but can lengthen the lifetime of network connected devices by clipping lower intensity surges that occur more regularly.

4 out of 5 eggsDon't use with telephone rj-11

Pros: Great for older network devices.

Cons: Not for telephone or POE. Clamping voltage is 7.5 volts. Analog phones are feed 48volts. The ringer can be 90 volts. Digtial phones require power also. The reviewer who says that it works with rj-11 does not understood a spec sheet or been zapped by a phone line. A volt meter tells it all. Tripp Lite has a newer model that supports POE and digital phones. Go Tripp Lite site and look for your self

4 out of 5 eggsBe Careful - See Cons Warning.

Pros: If you have a client that tends to blow out NIC cards and switch ports these surge suppressors might be helpful in some troublesome situations.

Cons: These surge suppressors are not compatible with gigabit Ethernet applications. You either won't get a link connection at all, or the NIC will only connect at 10/100 speeds.

For these to work properly they need to be attached to a good grounding point. A grounded outlet screw will normally do. The supplied ground wire is rather short, so plan your cable-run accordingly.

Other Thoughts: Tripp Lite should improve their design to make these compatible with Gigabit Ethernet standards. I don't bother to waste my client's money on Fast Ethernet installations anymore. CAT5e is out and CAT6 is in. I wish more of the Surge Suppressor manufacturers would include RJ45 jacks on their multi-outlet strips. Many supply modem protection, but almost none offer Ethernet protection.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes work for RJ11

Pros: This does work for RJ11 Applications. It has a RJ45 jack but RJ11 ends fit in a RJ45 Jack. The other reviewer obviously does not have any networking knowledge.

Cons: None. It works.
