5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING little player

Pros: Simple Interface

VERY reliable

good battery life

great sound

Supplied ear buds are great. Not quite as good as some other, notorious brands, but very respectable, sound quality is impressive.

Custom software friendly (Even on Sandisk's official online forums)

Cons: Tiny (but not a con for me)

Default software requires you to install programs on your PC, The software is very minimally intrusive, but for a paranoid goofball like me, I didn't like it. I replaced the Clip+ software with RockBox (A very easy process). Rockbox is openly discussed on Sandisk's forums, Sandisk doesn't seem to mind if people replace the default software, so this aspect is actually a PRO.

Other Thoughts: Like i said above, the default software isn't great, but not terrible. I installed RockBox on the Clip+ and now this thing is PERFECT for audio playback.

It is also very durable and reliable. I had the Clip+ on my right leg driving my girlfriend's car and it slid off my leg, right INTO an open glass of soda. I bought a new one that evening because I knew I ruined it.

Well, no. Turns out that after rubbing it off with a bit of rubbing alcohol and letting it dry for a few days, the Clip+, now 8 months later, is still running perfectly. Now i have a spare, but i regret the purchase because I probably will never need it.

One final great part of the Clip+ is how open it is. I can drag and drop files off of it like it is a USB flash drive. Unlike some other, famous, brands, there are very few barriers to what you can do with this little guy.

I have owned a lot of little gadgets in my life, and I seriously cannot think of any other device I have bought that has made me so across the board, overall pleased with my purchase as the Sansa Clip+.

1 out of 5 eggsLoose Headphone Jack

Pros: It played and held music.

Cons: The audio cable jack doesn't lock in, so the audio will typically cut out when I drive over a bump, or when I drive on a dirt road. So I have to mess around with it to make the chord stay in, which is distracting when I'm driving.

Other Thoughts: On Smooth roads or on my person hooked up with headphones it worked normally mostly.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

My name is Allen from SanDisk support. A brand new or lightly used Sansa MP3 player may have a very tight headphone jack when it leaves the factory. You have to apply approximately 7 pound of force to insert it all the way in. It will produce a audible click ensuring that the headphones are connected properly.

Please refer to the link below for the instructions on how to connect the headphones properly:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1791/kw/headphone

For further assistance, please contact SanDisk support at 1-866-SANDISK or submit a support request at www.sandisk.com/support.

Thank you,
Allen

1 out of 5 eggsRefurb not such a good deal

Pros: Nice compact size, good sound

Cons: Refurb units have a 30 day warranty. This unit crapped out and died exactly 60 days after purchase. $30 down the drain

Other Thoughts: Seems like a 3rd party warranty would be a good idea whenever burying refurbished electronics. Lesson learned. I also never received the rebate that was supposed to come with it

4 out of 5 eggsBe careful with large memory cards...

Pros: From what I've seen, it's a solid little player. Assuming you're using it as an 8GB device, it really is drag-and-drop to get your music playing on it. Out of the box, I had it going in 10 minutes (without enough charge though, of course.)

The light weight makes it awesome for working out, compared to some of the other players I've had.

Cons: Getting a large memory card (A 32GB G.Skill MicroSDHC from Newegg, to be exact) to work on it was a nightmare.

After trying pretty much every option I could think of (formatting on the player, formatting in Windows, MSC mode, MTP mode, and whatever else is out there,) I finally took another reviewer's advice and put Rockbox on it. It's a more complicated firmware, but at least it made my big memory card work.

If you're not comfortable messing with custom firmware or mods, and expect to have a higher capacity than the 8GB it comes with, I wouldn't choose this product.

Other Thoughts: As an 8GB player, it's probably sort of worth the price - average, if nothing else. Sandisk is a good brand overall, and from what I've seen, the Sansa series is typically solid. If you're expecting to expand the capacity on this though, expect to have to fiddle with it. I'd far rather have it work directly out of the box, of course, but it wasn't -that- onerous to get working.

5 out of 5 eggssimple, straightforward, RockBox compatible, versatile

Pros: Bought this in 2010 to replace my 2GB Creative Zen Nano Plus which finally died (RIP little guy, even though your 128MB Nomad Muvo brother strangely still lives).

It's nice and compact, has great battery life, no proprietary software for file management, and it Just Works. I don't like all the bulky, gaudy MP3 players out there, I like my electronics to be no-nonsense.

You can also add a 32GB MicroSD card and you've got a 40GB MP3 player for dirt cheap. (allegedly, it's possible to get a 64GB card to work with the unit, though there might be a few hoops to jump through to make it happen)

Cons: This model has a documented bug with playback, but it is practically unnoticeable to almost everyone.

The rate of playback is just shy of 1% faster than it should be... if you're a musician or audiophile, you may notice a slight difference in pitch when playing your music... see Other Thoughts

Other Thoughts: Thankfully, RockBox is easily installed on the Clip+ without any physical modification/flashing of the device or voiding the warranty. A simple matter of drag & drop and you're good to go, and it's just as easy to uninstall, too.

RockBox for Clip+ is able to compensate for the playback speed bug... not to mention a more comprehensive playlist system, wider filetype compatibility, skinnable/themed interface, better battery life, customizable settings, more flexible EQ, etc etc

5 out of 5 eggsBest Mp3 Player

Pros: The best mp3 player you'll ever purchased for an 8gb, and the price for it is well worth it. Cheaper than an 8gb ipod nano, and that is worth 150 bucks. The battery lasts long and you can enjoy this with you anywhere you want.

Cons: There's nothing wrong with this mp3, works like a charm and it's awesome!

Other Thoughts: If you need an mp3 player, I recommend this!

1 out of 5 eggsWhat a piece of JUNK!

Pros: It is small in size.

Cons: Everything else.

Other Thoughts: I have bought two of these scandisk clip players and both die shortly after receiving. The first I thought was just a fluke but now after the second just died it is obviously substandard manufacturing. I personally will never waste my money on another one of these since there are a number of other mp3 players at the same price and that actually last longer than a couple of weeks. There are 315 people that rated this at 5 stars but 182 that didn’t. Is it worth the risk of spending your money and getting a piece of junk instead of something that actually works?

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome MP3 Player

Pros: Awesome unit, great size. I pair it with a nice pair of Klipsch earbuds for great sound. I had the 4gb unit for 3+ years and finally upgraded to the higher capacity. It is nice to see they move the power button to the top and the volume control to the side opposite of the headphone input. Batter life is really good since it does not have a large demand display. Waited for it to go on sale and got it for 49 bucks and added an 8gb micro SD.

Cons: There are no cons with the unit, only with Newegg's new shipping 'deal' with Fedex. In a word, it blows. Before, Newegg's free shipping option was UPS ground, which would be at most a 2 to 3 day timeframe. Sometimes I would even get it next day depending on what warehouse was fulfilling the order. Now with this terrible FedEx to USPS free shipping deal, I am lucky to see the stuff in a week. We all know that there is no such thing as 'free' shipping and the the cost of it is built into the product. I will be looking for a new supplier that has quicker free shipping.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend rockbox.org as a replacement for the Sandisk operating system. I put Rockbox on as soon as I got the unit and regret not have discovering it years ago.

1 out of 5 eggsStop working in 4 days!

Pros: Simple & practical

Cons: Took more days to arrive home, than it took it to stop working. Just shut off and never turn on again

4 out of 5 eggsGood Performance to cost ratio

Pros: Everything as advertised, only complaints are same ones everyone will have: clip snaps off if you use it, OS freezes but can be rebooted by holding the power button.

Extremely portable and just right amount of storage. If clip wasn't so fragile this would be perfect for a workout buddy.

Excellent for the money.

Cons: Fragile Clip, somewhat unstable OS.
