5 out of 5 eggsLow priced Negative Scanner

Pros: Good low priced NEGATIVE scanner. Fast. Good depth. Good rendition. Small. Light. Included software useful. Works well with old negatives that are not in best of shape.

Cons: Does not work with computer. Included software is for processing once on computer. Only saves to memory card. Little to no image control.

Other Thoughts: Great for making catalogs of shots to be rescanned with higher end machines. Price is above bottom but scanner shows Mustek quality in image. Excellent for blowing down instead of blowing up, images scanned from negatives.

2 out of 5 eggsAt least it works

Pros: It worked and does not take long to scan lots of negatives.

Cons: The worst scan quality I have ever seen. Scans great, looks great on built in screen. When you scan it looks like the picture becomes heavily pixilated on the screen. Did'nt think anything of it till I looked at the 70 pictures I had scanned and all look 10 times worse than the original 4X6 pictures that I have. None of the negatives are damaged in anyway, and yet the scans look like they were, no dust on them either. I have had reprints done of some of these and was told the negatives were good and an 8X10 was one and it looked great. An 8X10 of the scans looked like cr*p and no amount of trying to fix in Photo shop helped.

Other Thoughts: Might be good if you want to have small pictures, anything over 4X6 forget it. And 4X6 is pushing it.

5 out of 5 eggsMustek F35 Scanner

Pros: Well built, surprisingly precision parts, works very well for the 937 slides I have already scanned. Great scanner for the digitizing of home slides.

Cons: Cannot repair bad original photography or the product of poor cameras or deteriorated film or poor photographers. The scanner applies EXIF date of 2009 and I could not find how to change it to 2012 so will have to change the date via some other program.

Other Thoughts: Over a three day period, I have spent a bit more than eight hours to scan 937 slides, 35mm and 126, dating from 1957 through 1986. The scanning goes pretty fast once a rhythm and procedure is established. The scanner works well and the two-up and two-down exposure indices work to correct for poor cameras to some extent. I found that different cameras and different film will sometimes consistently over- or under-expose the film and the scanner can help to overcome that deficiency. But it cannot correct for bad original photography by bad photographers, shaky exposures, or other problems in the original film. Don't expect miracles from the scanner. For the purpose of digitizing home slides from inexpensive cameras, it is great. The precision of the slide tray is such that it will not feed well unless the slides are properly inserted. If the tray does not want to go through the slot, you have not properly positioned the slides in the marked spaces in the tray.

3 out of 5 eggsBetter than I expected.

Pros: Well built, compact and easy to use. Good resolution, and good image quality for the price. Auto and adjustable iris control. A.C. power supply included.

Cons: No Mac software. Must scan to sd card, then import into iPhoto. It doesn't have any color adjustment. Some scans tend to be too blue.

Other Thoughts: Most of my slides are 40-50 years old, and needed to be cleaned with film cleaner. Compressed air, or wiping with a microfiber cloth just wasn't enough.
