The TI-30X-IIS is another in a long line of great calculators for students and professionals who don’t need graphing capabilities. It is a great choice for general math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics and science classes. A menu system lets you select settings appropriate to your needs.

The two line display shows entries and results and the top line scrolls so you can see up to 88 characters. This lets you check your equation for accuracy. Multiple conversions functions and the ability to use fractions make this calculator a highly versatile tool in and out of the class room.

  • newegg Powerful Functionality The Texas Instruments TI-30X-IIS scientific calculator combines fraction capabilities with basic scientific and trigonometric functions and more to help students explore math and science concepts.
  • newegg Two-Line Display with Scrollable Entry Line The Texas Instruments TI-30X-IIS features a large two-line display: the top line scrolls to the left or right to display an entry of up to 88 digits; the bottom line shows a result of up to 10 digits plus a 2-digit exponent.

5 out of 5 eggsDefinitely Worth The Money

Pros: Great calculator! I love the button layout and the 2 line display (line 1 is the problem, line 2 is the solution).

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This will last you a very long time.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid if at all possible

Pros: Durable, cheap, handles most needs

Cons: Buttons are hard to press (you really have to jam your finger onto the key), slow, relatively expensive, not as feature-packed as its competition

Other Thoughts: If I were you, I would avoid this calculator at all costs. My 8th grade Algebra 1 teacher recommended this calculator to every student. Most of those students did buy this calculator and all of them hate it. The buttons are hard to push and other calculators of similar price are far superior. This calculator doesn't even have pretty math! (pretty math is what math textbooks use. For example, fractions on this calculator are displayed as decimals. On the calculators I reference below, they're displayed like 1/2) I would recommend you buy either the Casio fx-115ES or the TI-36X Pro. At the time of writing of this review, the TI-30X-IIS costs $22.99. The fx-115ES costs $22. The 36X Pro costs $20.67. Both of those calculators have far more features and costs less then this calculator.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is an incredible calculator. The ability to reference previous entries and its easy to use memory system, this is incredible. With this thing, I can do problems faster than anyone in my class with their Casios and older TI's.

Cons: It doesn't graph?

Other Thoughts: I LOVE IT!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Non-graphing calculator

Pros: When the prof tells you no graphing calculators, this is your best bet. It does order of operations, some statistics, lets you reference previous entries. Great calculator for the money.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I hate when I cant use my ti-89!

5 out of 5 eggsRollin' since '05

Pros: Has Pros.

Cons: Doesn't have Cons

Other Thoughts: I've been using this for Calculus, Algebra where graphing calulators are not allowed, and this machine has definitely been my buddy. Some of the nice things it can do are LN, and fractions (my favorite). If you need something cheap that will last a long time, and can't use an 89, this is the way to go.

5 out of 5 eggsThe BEST!

Comments: ... under $xx.xx

I got this (not from The Egg) and it's the second one. Lets just say my other one had an unfortunate accident - it did, however, last a good six years before it "broke" (by fault of my own). This calculator is great, especially for students.

I really like the two-line display which shows you the problem (line 1), and the answer (line 2). Along with everything else this calculator is worth every penny.
