1 out of 5 eggsNot A Good Choice

Pros: Lots of features and used to be our go-to choice. Not any more!

Cons: Chip on ink carts and so far NONE of the remanufactured brands work, including the Office Depot version. Apparently limited to HP's official carts at twice to 3X the price of the remanufactured.

Other Thoughts: We do a lot of color printing and have worn out a series of HP Officejet Pros over the years and the current 8600 is the LAST ONE we will ever buy. Switching to Brother. We need the separate ink tanks this model offers, but this latest version has a chip on the cart and so far we cannot find a remanufactured cartridge that will work. We've wasted a fair chunk of time and money trying different brands, including Office Depot's remanufactured house brand and NOTHING works with this thing except the HP OEM brand.

HP just lost a customer . . . and they deserve to lose a lot more customers.

4 out of 5 eggsOnly 1.5 year life...

Pros: Print quality was great....fax was perfect, scan to printer worked on all 4 computers including all wireless devices, I.e. iPad and cell phones. I was very happy with this all in one, until it stopped working only a year and 4 months.

Cons: One and a half year after purchase (which I don't think is long enough) the printer stopped printing. I purchased new ink, did not help. Called HP support and all they suggested was using the on-screen print head cleaner, but that did not help. I would have given a perfect score, but since it seems this printer broke down almost exactly after warranty expired, I feel angry!

Other Thoughts: Called HP tech support and they were able to ship a refurbish printer for about $20$30' less than retail. Not sure or this was a good idea.....

3 out of 5 eggsCheaper elsewhere (even on sale)

Pros: Don't own this thing but I noticed it was far cheaper on other retailers.

Cons: inflated newegg pricetag for whatever reason.

Other Thoughts: Staples any basically every other retailer have this thing available for like half of what newegg is selling it for.

4 out of 5 eggsHappy

Pros: Works well.
Duplex is smooth.
Scanning is easy.

Cons: Wifi was difficult to set up. Now that its set up it works fine.

Other Thoughts: Does what we wanted it to, is easy to use. I was a little concerned as we have had a lot of problems with our HP printers at work.

1 out of 5 eggsNo custom paper support!

Pros: Auto-Duplexing
Easy Wireless Setup
Separate Ink Cartridges

Cons: No custom paper support
No Custom paper support
and, oh yeah... No Custom paper Support!

Other Thoughts: If you want to deviate at all from the supported media seizes, forget it! I was trying to print wedding invitations on 4.5x6.5 stock and it will not accept the size. Apparently the current line of HP Printers and Drivers do not support custom paper sizes in Windows and the official HP fix for this is to install a 9800 Deskjet driver instead which does NOT support the max DPI nor color printing in some programs!!

Angry, Frustrated and extremely dissatisfied with HP right now.

Also same goes for Photosmart 6520.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's great... for 20lb paper.

Pros: It's quick (as long as it picks up the sheet) and easy on the ink.

Photo quality is passable but it has poor halftones and you'll see a lot of pixelation in shading. Don't expect it to make pretty pictures compared to other contemporary models.

Basic text on standard 20lb is pretty good.

Cons: It's a monster, size-wise. That isn't an issue for me but may be for some.

The duplexer is easy to insert with an inproper alignment which will cause everything that goes through it to crumple and jam.

It won't pick up cardstock. I'm using a 65# astroparche and it just won't do it. I've done all the "fixes", cleaned and roughed the pickup wheel, used all the appropriate settings, tried curling the leading edge and it just doesn't work..

It doesn't like photostock either... I've only tried once and it may be possible but since the photo quality is kind of bad I gave up to use my other printer.

Label stock: This is the most important to me as I use it for my shipping labels. It has a hard time even right off the bat (with roughed and cleaned feed wheel) and still generally requires several feed attempts to get it to pull and print regardless of setting. I find that the feed path junks up pretty quickly and I can clean it up with rubbing alcohol which reduces the number of feed attempts som, for a short while, but it rarely feeds on the first attempt regardless.

** Please note that all the other stock attempts were prior to using for labels so should not have been affected by any residual label goo. That being said I've never seen any of my printers get gunked like this so I don't know if it's the immediate U path it takes or what... this printer is pretty much best left to standard 20lb stock and that's it.

Touch screen is redonkulous. It doesn't correlate to the screen and you have to learn where to press and just accept that it is what it is.

TH eprinter driver is... either designed for the mentally deficient or just poorly made. The options are not thought out and I find it much more difficult to use than others. It feels like they've attempted to dumb it down to the point of non-useability. It's more of a trial and error thing than just choosing what you want.

I will likely be switching to another printer for the purpose I need it for. A shame, I want to like it considering the decent ink useage.

Other Thoughts: Scanner works. Not the sharpest I've seen.

Beware of the wireless wakeup. It doesn't always like to turn back on from a sleep state. I've only had an issue with it like 3-4 times but I usually hit power first just in case.

The ability to download apps etc. may be good for some people but I find it to be... well.. ridiculous. It does ease firmware updates... but I haven't seen any benefit (especially when they were supposed to improve stock handling.)

Printing from a phone - Sometimes it works, somtimes it cuts half the document off. Perhaps it's me but I haven't found settings to rectify. YMMV.

Its a poor choice for photos, labels or cardstock. If that's not an issue then, hey... You could do worse.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat product - excellent value

Pros: This machine is very quick and easy to set-up. It is decently sized for an AiO, not taking up too much desk space.
The duplex printing is great and the scanner works wonderfully.
The HP ePrint technology works seamlessly with all the devices in the office. We can wireless print from and scan too all pc's on the network. This printer has made our work easier compared to the [much] older equipment we were using prior.

Cons: The only negative thing I dislike about the machine is that is not able to scan two-sided documents automatically. In order to scan two-sided, you have to insert the documents into the scanner tray, scan using the PC software and then flip the documents over and rescan the other side. The software will put the pages in the proper order after the second scan, but it is still cumbersome...

Other Thoughts: I have to admit, that I am a big supporter of HP Printers (any only their printers). I have supplied many of my clients with HP's over the past few years and they all love them and the increased functionality they provide. This printer is no exception. The ability of the wireless printer to interact will all the machines on the network in both a scanning and printing capacity is wonderful. With the current rebate, this device is excellently priced. I would rate this a strong buy.

4 out of 5 eggsGood printer with a weird drive problem

Pros: Prints clearly, quickly, good scanning functions, ink cartridge seems to work forever. I bought this for my business as a replacement to a Canon Pixma we were using; after doing some rough math I figured that I had saved about $600/year on ink expenses, which is always a satisfying feeling.

Cons: The only trouble I've had with Windows 7/8.0/8.1 is that, in spite of installing and re-installing the device drivers, the PC I have will not recognize the printer.

This seems like a big deal but, instead of using the USB port, I ran a network cable from the printer to my laptop and suddenly it worked. I'm not sure what the USB problem is, since I found what I considered to be an acceptable solution it wasn't a big deal to use the network port.

Other Thoughts: The cable issue is really the only thing stopping this from being a 5 Egg review because, let's face it, USB should always work. Still, a fantastic printer for small business needs.

If you're really worried about the network cable issue I'll add this: I liked this device so much I bought a second one knowing full well about the cabling issue. So, yeah, I think it's still pretty good.

5 out of 5 eggsHP continues to impress

Pros: Fast, especially in Draft mode which looks as good as normal for most printing needs, even with color.
Ink use is the best I've seen so far, again use Draft mode.
Easy to setup and use, HP software is finally getting much better though not yet perfect.

Cons: Ink priming takes forever. And, I preferred the "8500" ink setup, as they didn't move with the print head, but this one is OK still due to separate print heads.

Other Thoughts: The printer is great for a work horse printer. Thought I think a 25,000 print cycle is a bit high, more like 2,500 per month. The draft mode printing is fantastic with speed and super low ink use. Quality mode uses quite a bit of ink, but that's normal for any ink printer. I use quality mode only for certain pictures, and almost never for documents. 95% of my printing goes draft mode. The software control center for this printer is very useful and to the point. Their utility for fixing problems works quite well too.
