1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: As a basic nic, it does appear to function properly.

Cons: I bought this card specifically because it had vlan tagging support. I use broadcom cards in servers at work and have always liked them. Upon install however, I have been unable to configure any vlans as BACS complains the card does not support teaming and vlan tagging. Upgraded to the latest drivers had no effect either.

This card is rated a 1 here because HP refused to provide tech support for my issue despite the card clearly coming with a 1 year warranty for tech support. I am returning the card to newegg for a refund.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than the Intel 9301CT NIC

Pros: This is a much better card than the Intel 9301CT and while I had no issues with the Intel 9301CT it was easy to tell that the HP FS215AA is a superior card. The port connector for RJ45 connector is metal instead of plastic like the Intel 9301CT which means its more durable. The components are also superior than the 9301CT. Trust me this is hard to say since I love Intel stuff. I'm not a fan of HP but I love Broadcom chips as they are very well thought out and are very good, except when loser companies like Belkin poorly implement them. This card is and enterprise device which means it must work without issues under the most stressful situations which means its design to last. Which connecting to encrypted sites and other encrypted network machines it is accelerated due to the internal encryption pass-through this NIC has built into it.

Cons: The FS215AA is a very good card but as always there is better. I also own an Intel 9400pt Server NIC and this card the wipe the floor against the FS215AA but that doesn't mean the card is bad in fact the FS215AA will smoke ANY onboard NIC, except those that are on a server mainboard which will either have this chip or usually one that is a step higher from Broadcom. However from what I read the difference the the enterprise desktop and the server chips from broadcom are the features. Other than the features the chips of the Desktop and the moderate Server versions are identical as far as performance.

Other Thoughts: Although this card is a desktop enterprise card the stability is of that of Server NIC so in an entry server application this card is suitable for such a task. Although a "teaming" feature is not available for this card it holds its own very well as I have been running it 24/7 for the past 4 months without a single issue. The latency is always low and the response is fast with this card. Data is processed by card itself as far as transmitting and receiving and does not rely on the the computer's processor to handle the task. By having the NIC card do the work it prevents network lag which is important for time sensitive data such as gaming, VoIP, and server applications where keep response time high and latency low are important. Network and internet data are sent across all cores of the processor instead of one core of the processor and this helps to keep latency down under high loads. Yes the Intel 9301CT does this also but not nearly as well as the FS215AA.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid and reliable out of the box

Pros: * Auto driver install in Windows 7 (no need to use included CD or pre-install drivers)

Cons: * Pricier than some other NICs

Other Thoughts: Purchased this NIC to replace an unreliable Intel NIC in a dual NIC machine. The HP NIC worked flawless out of the box and fixed all of the network/lockup issues that were being caused by the Intel product. The computer in question has now been operational for several weeks without any issues (previously it was reporting multiple issues a day and locking up every few days).

NIC is connected to a 10/100 switch currently and correctly auto detects 100 full duplex connection. I haven't tried the 1G connection as I don't need that for my application.

If you want a reliable NIC this appears to be it, I will definitely be buying HP NICs going forward (instead of Intel).
