1 out of 5 eggsNOT DDWRT OR OPENWRT SUPPORTED!

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4300-100NAS N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router - Premium Edition, DD-WRT Open Source support, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: It works as a generic router.

Cons: Newegg advertises that this is DD-WRT compatible and open source....IT IS NOT! WNDR4300v2 is NOT supported by ANY WRT open source software. I bought this router because it was advertised as a DD-WRT supported router...and when I researched it, I found that it indeed was...or so I thought. Only WNDR4300v1 is DD-WRT supported....NOT v2. Now I'm stuck with a router with the worst router Netgear software that has barely any capability of doing anything other than being a generic router with limited and restrictive software.

I am very, very upset with this and have wasted time, money, and effort on this that I would have completely avoided if the advertisement wasn't false.

Other Thoughts: I've always had bad luck with Netgear routers...mostly because of their horribly limited software (I've had dozens over the years), and I usually stick to Dlink and Linksys, but since this was advertised as a DD-WRT supported router, and had good reviews for v1, I was influenced by the false advertisement of this product and ordered it. Big mistake...will not happen again. Very disappointed.

1 out of 5 eggs2 Versions (one supports DD-WRT, one does not)

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4300-100NAS N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router - Premium Edition, DD-WRT Open Source support, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: speedy router

Cons: I received the v2 of this router when ordering. There is not a DD-WRT build for this version (as advertised in the name of this product on NewEgg), but the regular firmware has less options in it than the original v1 build. Very frustrating and what a waste of time.

2 out of 5 eggskinda quirky

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4300-100NAS N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router - Premium Edition, DD-WRT Open Source support, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: it works for 80% of what it should do

Cons: can not WAN traffic to web server on one computer. (192.168.1.10) can direct to web servers set up on other computers. but wait, is it the computer - nope. When I remove the router and connect to internet directly the web server works. can also connect to the web server from any LAN machine. It is a router config issue? probably. I have been doing IT for awhile and can not figure it out. Nothing in user manual and can not get support on phone. Been on hold for over an hour as I type. very annoying!

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsNo DD-WRT support available

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4300-100NAS N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router - Premium Edition, DD-WRT Open Source support, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Advertised to run DD-WRT

Cons: DD-WRT support is for WNDR4300(v1) and the router received is a WNDR4300v2. The WNDR4300v2 has NO DD-WRT support, and the router will not properly work with DD-wrt

Other Thoughts: DO NOT buy if you expect to run DD-WRT, as at this time, this router, as shipped, is not supported. NEWEGG needs to modify their advertisement.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Valentine,

We apologize for the confusion. If you would like to talk to one of our experts please email them at netgearteam@netgear.com with the serial number of your WNDR4300 and a copy and paste of this review.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4300-100NAS N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router - Premium Edition, DD-WRT Open Source support, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Fast, reliable and does everything I need it to do. Good signal from basement throughout almost a 3000 sq/ft house. Netgear Genie app and software is nice. I like being able to control stuff or see what's connected to the network from my phone.

Cons: None I can think of

Other Thoughts: Would buy Netgear again

1 out of 5 eggsWNDR4300

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4300-100NAS N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router - Premium Edition, DD-WRT Open Source support, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: It worked great at the beginning.

Cons: I am on my 2nd WNDR4300. The first one I bought in December 2014, it did very well until July of this year, it just died, all I got was a power light. I went and bought a second one, I have had this one for a little over 2 months, it just drops a connection 2 or 3 times a day. Thought it was my modem, all lights work on modem, rebooted modem, still nothing, all router lights are on that should be. I reboot router, wow, I have internet. I am not a big fan of Netgear at the moment. I did not buy these 2 from New Egg, bought from a big box store. I thought I was getting a good product when I bought the first one as it worked really good initially.

Other Thoughts: Beware of this router.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello F B.,

2 out of 5 eggsExpensive for the part that works ...

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4300-100NAS N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router - Premium Edition, DD-WRT Open Source support, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: It supports Samba / Disk drives; our notebook drive plugged right in and worked quickly.
It has 3 levels of access control : MAC-ID, OpenDNS, and port blocking

Cons: The 11-g range is about 10 feet in our house. Barely.

Other Thoughts: We could use a router with much better access controls. Like, turn on openDNS monday-friday and turn it off on weekends. This router could implement that feature in theory, but in practice it follows the same OpenDNS schedule every day, so the feature is so useless we had to buy a 2nd router for the parents to use.

Also, the 11-G wireless hardly works. If you are 6 feet away from the router you MIGHT be able to associate and transfer data. You MIGHT.

I paid over $100 and don't feel like I received value for money.

Manufacturer Response:

Hey System Builder,

If you have any questions or would like to get in contact with our specialists at any time please remember that you can email us at newegg@netgear.com. Our specialists can also help you get your range fixed.

Thank you for choosing the WNDR4300-- we apologize that you aren't completely satisfied.

NETEAR Team

5 out of 5 eggsPC, Mac and Android phone like it

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4300-100NAS N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router - Premium Edition, DD-WRT Open Source support, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Easy setup on PC, Mac laptop picked it right up - and gets full data rate, that doesn't happen on some brands - and it's working with an iPhone, iPad, and an Android phone, too. I have another brand that works fine, but only with the PC and Android phone, so I'm really happy with this router. Good Netflix streaming, too.

Cons: It took a long time (a few minutes on some steps) to complete the setup steps; easy enough to follow the setup instructions, just really slow doing it. I had one that did the setup steps quite fast, but failed several setups before it succeeded; at least this one worked the first try. Once the setup is done, works as fast as any I've used. The wifi comes back on in seconds if you've turned it off with the switch. Once setup, I have no complaints about it.

Other Thoughts: It has an off switch for wifi; don't know if that makes a big difference, but haven't seen that on a router before. Supposed to save energy; so I shut it off when I'm finished for the day. I can still stream Netflix on direct wire while wifi is off.

The router this one replaces needed a manual reset just about every day, sometimes 2 or 3 times; this one hasn't gone offline yet, and I'm hoping it never will. It shows 65 mb/sec and rates the signal excellent, something I never saw with previous routers. I suspect that's the best I'm going to get with the equipment it's working with. Nothing slows down while streaming Netflix in HD on a TV and on a laptop, while downloading large files on a PC; for a home unit, I feel that's doing very well.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Solid Router

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4300-100NAS N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router - Premium Edition, DD-WRT Open Source support, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: - Connection is extremely stable (no drops/issues so far in 4 months)
- Wireless dual band works great
- 5G connection is much better

Cons: - Range is a little low (it works for my 1200 sq ft. apartment, but connection is a little weak in one of the far corners)

Other Thoughts: I've been using this router for about 4 months now with great results. I've mainly used CISCO and LINKYSYS routers in the past, but decided to try out this NETGEAR one. I chose this one over the ASUS RT-N56U (which is about the same price), because of concerns over the unreliable customer service at ASUS.

4 out of 5 eggsGood router, but get it on sale

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4300-100NAS N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router - Premium Edition, DD-WRT Open Source support, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Great when it's on sale, supports multiple connections, UI is easy to use, gigabit

Cons: VERY short range on the 5 GHz, takes a long time to setup

Other Thoughts: Bought this on sale so I think it was a good value. It was a little difficult to setup, there were times where I thought it had frozen so I had to restart the setup process. When it finally did finish it took over 10 minutes. The average user would think that there would be a defect waiting around that long to get online. Instructions could be a little more clear as far as how long you should wait.

The 5 GHz frequency is nice, but VERY short range. In the next room within line of sight about 20 feet away I was only getting 1 bar of signal strength, but the 2.4 frequency works fine. Have plans to setup a gigabit network with file share so the USB port on the modem will come in handy when I attach an external hard drive.
