3 out of 5 eggsdamaged drum status update

This review is from: brother MFC-9330CDW MFC / All-In-One Up to 23 ppm 600 x 2400 dpi Color Print Quality Color Wireless 802.11b/g/n Digital Color LED Printer

Pros: Brother customer support was very responsive to my request for help with the damaged drum issue. They are sending a replacement and I should have it within 2-3 business days. As a result I am changing my overall rating as flaws in products will happen. It's how the company embraces the opportunity to rectify the situation with the customer that is important and so far I am pleased with Brother overall. Only time will tell how this unit will perform in the long run. I loved the b/w counterpart to this machine so much I thought I couldn't go wrong. 8710DW is a really awesome machine and very affordable. if you don't have to have to color prints, I highly recommend that model.

Cons: never fun to deal with a damaged product right out of the box.

1 out of 5 eggsdamaged drum

This review is from: brother MFC-9330CDW MFC / All-In-One Up to 23 ppm 600 x 2400 dpi Color Print Quality Color Wireless 802.11b/g/n Digital Color LED Printer

Pros: set up was easy enough.

Cons: you must calibrate this machine through your computer device/printers menu for the colors to match up. Not a big deal. Brother tech support emailed me a link walking me through this. However, my real axe to grind is the scratch (more like gouge) I discovered on my day old printer drum that puts a black mark in 3 areas of the right margin of the page. Currently wrangling with Brother about getting this replaced under warranty as this is a $150 part and to return the unit to Newegg is $70 in shipping. No quick cheap fix. My "account" has been elevated and I am supposed to be called back with a tech who is suppose to be able to help. I have a feeling this will be painful though I haven't found the customer support at Brother to be nearly as bad as one customer reported. Or maybe I'm just easy going. If I get this resolved without investing 4 more hours I'll be happy. At this point, it's been far too time consuming already.

3 out of 5 eggsstrange output results

This review is from: brother MFC-9330CDW MFC / All-In-One Up to 23 ppm 600 x 2400 dpi Color Print Quality Color Wireless 802.11b/g/n Digital Color LED Printer

Pros: Very fast next day delivery. Set up was easy enough.

Cons: The image is not printing as it displays on screen. For instance, a chart with a blue and red line is printing with a purple and green line instead. Strange. Not ready to send back. Will trouble shoot some more before I hit eject.

4 out of 5 eggsBrother MFC-9930CDW - Correction & Addition

This review is from: brother MFC-9330CDW MFC / All-In-One Up to 23 ppm 600 x 2400 dpi Color Print Quality Color Wireless 802.11b/g/n Digital Color LED Printer

Pros: - Envelope Feed in Front of Machine.
My previous review stated that the envelope feed was in the back of the machine. This is incorrect. The envelope feed is in the front allowing easy access and feeding of envelopes. The envelopes still have to be fed individually by hand rather than in a stack. The envelope feeder worked good with no misfeeds in the half dozen that I tried (standard letter size).

Cons: - Cost of Toner.
While The cost of the toner for a color printer is not out of line, it is still rather high. Newegg does not have aftermarket toner cartridges for sale so the only ones available are OEM from Brother. The TN-225 series cartridges are US$70-US$80. This works out to a toner cost of $0.10/page on average (at the mfg. stated 5% coverage).

Aftermarket toner cartridges are available from other vendors for about US$45/cartridge. Hopefully Newegg will start to stock those along with the OEM products. I have been happy with the customer service of Newegg and would prefer to minimize the number of suppliers I deal with.

In comparison, using a Brother 2240 monochrome Black printer with Rosewill high capacity toner cartridge from Newegg, the cost of toner is about US$0.01 per page.

A significant difference.

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent all-in-one color multi-function copier. If Newegg starts to stock aftermarket high-capacity toner cartridges, at lower cost, for this model printer, I would give it a 5 egg rating.

4 out of 5 eggsBrother MFC-9330CDW- Good Value

This review is from: brother MFC-9330CDW MFC / All-In-One Up to 23 ppm 600 x 2400 dpi Color Print Quality Color Wireless 802.11b/g/n Digital Color LED Printer

Pros: - Fast Printing
- Excellent Print Quality
- Low Cost for an All-In-One Color Printer.
- WiFi Enabled
- Ethernet Enabled
- Bright Color Display
- Easy Setup
- Duplex Copying
- Good Scanner

Cons: - Print Density is Low.
- 2.4GHz Wireless Band Only.
- Will not allow connection from Multiple Wireless signals Simultaneously (or in Series).
- Will not scan multiple sheets in Duplex mode.
- Toner Cartridges are Expensive.

Other Thoughts: I am very impressed with this All-in-One Printer/Scanner/Copier/Fax. This machine compares very favorably with other machines costing 5X, or more, the price. For a SOHO application, I would recommend this machine without hesitation.

I found the print quality to be excellent. There were no spurious dots, the letters are crisp and clear, the color masstones are uniform and cosistent, color reproduction is very good for regular masstone colors (not so good for reflective metallics but those are really tough to reproduce), and there was no paper curl for prints that had 85+% ink coverage. The only thing I could fault was that the print density with standard bond paper was lower than I am used to from an HP printer. I tried adjusting the print density and that helped. I never did achieve the print density that can be achieved with an HP (which costs 8 times more money). I believe that the toner that Brother uses penetrates further into the paper fibers so the density is lower. The amount of pigment in the toner is probably lower also which effects the optical density.
For almost all applications, the Brother will be acceptable.

Printing envelopes requires feeding them through the back of the machine individually. I had no problems with that. I would like to see the infeed port on the front of the machine to allow me to put it close to the wall to save space. I don't know any other machine that does it that way either.

I had no problems with scanning multiple sheets, or duplex copying of single sheets, I did not figure out how to do duplex scanning of multiple sheets and I am not sure that this feature is one the machine is capable of. Scan quality is excellent for an office application. It may not be good enough for fine quality photos. To get better quality, you will have to get a dedicated scanner and spend more than 10X the money. This All-in-One device costs less than many stand alone document scanners.

I did not evaluate the fax portion of the machines.

This machine has both ethernet (T1) and WiFi capability. The ethernet works adequately for most documents but I would like to see T100 capability to enable printing of documents with embedded high resolution photos.

The Wireless capability of the machine is for the 2.4GHz band only. This is adequate for most people today. With the availability of Dual Band routers at low cost and the new ac routers with high throughput capability, having dual band capacity for the printer would be nice. I have multiple work stations set up on the 5GHz band and was not able to connect them to the printer unless I changed them to the 2.4GHz band. There was no problem if I attached the printer to the network by ethernet so I didn't deduct for that.

The final comment is about the Toners. The cost of toner cartridges on Newegg is US$70-US$80. The cost/page is still low for color but it is much higher for monochrome than a dedicated B/W Brother Printer.
