5 out of 5 eggsGreat for QNAP 259+ NAS

Pros: Fast, reliable, capacity

Cons: A little more noise than I expected during read/write activities, not bad however.

4 out of 5 eggs512n / 512e / 4k sector size and disk compatibility on 6TB WD RE disks

Pros: The 6TB WD RE disks support the new 4k sector size with the increased performance and error correcting capabilities

Cons: Compatibility of 4k and 512e sector size in hardware and Operating systems,
WD spec sheet for WD RE drives
Drive Specification Sheet (PDF) (WD6002FRYZ,WDxxxxFSYZ,WDxxxxFXYZ, WDxxxxFYYZ, WD2004FBYZ, WD1004FBYZ)

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great when it works

Pros: Good storage option for RAID with cost vs. capacity + warranty.

Cons: originally ordered three of these for a RAID 5 data storage server. one of three was DoA. Too much hat-juggling at work meant the 30 days had gone by and had to go through WD to do a RMA, which was fortunately relatively painless (though they do charge for shipping the dead drive back).

Other Thoughts: The dead drive was kind of strange, because it kept showing up in the BIOS as locked, but the Device Manager couldn't make heads or tails of it, and trying to initialize the thing only brought cryptic error messages. Wrestled with it for a while before giving up and returning. Advice: if you get one of these wacky pseudo dead/ kinda locked drives, save yourself a headache and return it before the 30 days are up.

5 out of 5 eggsRaid Keeps on Rolling

Pros: I am impressed with how well these drives have been performing., Since the day I received the 4 of them they have been in a raid 5 array and are taxed 24x7 serving as DVR storage. I have two HDHR3 and I love to see if I can max thing out.

Cons: None. They are excellent drives for not being SSD'sc

Other Thoughts: About to setup 4 more in an external Sans Digital TR4M6G and I'm looking forward to benchmarking this configuration (again in raid 5). It'll be nice to have an external drive the crunches the gigs.

4 out of 5 eggsmassive drive

Pros: Drive is massive. Ok write speeds. Awesome price

Cons: Very Noisy people on here are not kidding at all. Go fire up your old windows 98 system listen to the drive make all the clicking and rattling noise. That's how this drive sounds. This really worried me but It tested ok in every way we shall see it if holds for the length of the warranty

Other Thoughts: The NSA installs unremoveable Malware on all WD drives wish WD would give us a way to remove this.

5 out of 5 eggsQuick & Easy

Pros: Solid brand history/reliability
2TB is a decent amount of storage
Well packaged/protected
Fairly quick (free) delivery (ordered on Sunday, in my hands on Thursday)

Cons: Mechanical drives still limited to ~150 MB/s read/write speeds
Price still a bit high

5 out of 5 eggsGood Hard Drive

Pros: Reliable. Stress tested all of them and ran extended tests using Western Digital's software. No failures, all performed excellently

Cons: Couple of minor quips.
1) They're noisy.
2) The screw holes on the bottom aren't tapped deep enough to accept a standard length screw. This was a PITA as they were being mounted in trays with tight tolerances in a rackmount NAS and the screws wouldn't seat down all the way making installation of the trays impossible. The old drives were WD RE 1TB, no problems. This was the first (and hopefully the only) time I've ever had to run to *HOME DEPOT* to install a hard drive.

2 out of 5 eggsMight Return

Pros: Lots of space, read/write speed was about 150MB/s according to HDTune

Cons: This is a very veryyyyy noisynoisy drive when reading and writing to it. On top of that, the drive doesn't support AAM so I can't quiet it down. I'm thinking about returning it because the noise levels are starting to drive me crazy.

4 out of 5 eggsstorage

Pros: Large capacity, 5yr warranty. It's meant for the long haul, 365 days, 24hrs a day grinding. We're talking data center stuff and if you like at home too. :)

Let your ssd do the fast quick writing back to forth for the os/applications but this thing is for storage and even scratch in raid or non raid.

Cons: None, you should know what you're getting.
