Transcend’s SSD720 is a next generation SATA III 6Gb/s solid state drive (SSD) that doubles the maximum data transfer rate of the previous Serial ATA II 3Gb/s interface. Designed with multitasking power users in mind, the productivity-enhancing SSD720 will revolutionize system boot up time, application launch speed, and overall system responsiveness.

  • newegg Incredible transfer rates Combining the latest SATA III 6Gb/s specification with a powerful SandForce controller, the SSD720 offers transfer speeds of up to 560MB/s read and 540MB/s write. In addition to these incredible sequential transfer rates, the SSD720 supports lightning-fast 4k random file writes up to 86,000 IOPS, taking a mere 15 seconds to transfer a 4.7GB DVD.
  • newegg NCQ support Equipped with the fastest type of MLC flash chips available, the SSD720’s 24nm synchronous toggle mode NAND modules work effectively with the advanced SandForce controller, ideal for running demanding system applications, such as specialized multimedia computing and high-end gaming. Support for Native Command Queuing (NCQ) adds to the performance and efficiency features of the SSD720 by optimizing the order in which received read and write commands are executed.
  • newegg Ultra slim 7mm To meet the size limitations of today’s modern Ultrabooks, netbooks, and notebooks, the SSD720 boasts a super slim thickness of just 7mm, compared with 9.5mm of most SSDs currently available. Although smaller in size, the 7mm SSD720 uses the same SATA connector used on a 2.5” hard disk drive (HDD) and is backwards compatible with SATA II (3Gb/s) and SATA I (1.5Gb/s) connection options for excellent multi-platform compatibility.
  • newegg Built-In Reliability To keep your Transcend SSD running fast, clean, and error-free, the advanced SSD Scope software application is available to download and work with the SSD720. SSD Scope allows you to monitor SSD720 health status with S.M.A.R.T. technology, enable the TRIM command in the operating system to help maintain optimum write speeds, and conveniently update SSD firmware, all from a single user-friendly tool. For operating systems that do not support the TRIM command, the SSD720 offers an aggressive garbage collection and recycling system. To further increase the lifespan of the SSD720, built-in wear-leveling and Error Correction Code (ECC) ensure continued reliable data transfer. SSD Scope also includes a convenient System Clone utility to help make upgrading your existing computer to the performance boost of an SSD720 quick and easy.
  • newegg Added Benefits Containing no moving parts, the SSD720 not only provides shock and vibration resistance, but also offers low power consumption and cool, silent operation that can help increase the efficiency and battery runtime of the latest thin and light form factor devices. Completing file operations at least three times faster and providing ultra-low access latencies by avoiding platter “seek time”, the SSD720 is the ideal drop-in replacement for standard rotating hard drives.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Drive

Pros: Fast

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Used in a usb-3 external drive enclosure as extra spave for my Macbook Retina. Noticably faster then convential hard drives, quiet, cool works great. I run a 100GB windows7 virtual machine off the drive and it's faster than when I had it in a bootcamp partition on my previous macbook.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice!

Pros: Very easy upgrade, user-friendly software, good capacity-price-performance.

Oh... as usual NewEgg rocks!!!

Cons: None so far. Worried about reliability since this tech is new to me, so was careful about imaging my installation on an external SATA drive and I always back up my volatile data. Not even a hiccup so far, just being cautious.

Other Thoughts: I have been assembling my own PCs for 15 years, and this stands head and shoulders above any other upgrade I have made with respect to performance. Installed this with a motherboard, FX processor and memory upgrade along with Windows 8. It was easy to mount and simple (for me) to configure. Really, the only "different" setting is to configure bios to set the SATA controller to AHCI and everything else pretty much went like it has 50 other times I have done this kind of upgrade.

4 out of 5 eggsMade a huge difference in performance

Pros: Absolutely a great call for the price.
Fit my Lenovo's x220's slim form factor requirements
Good ratio of cost to size
Cut my boot time and resume times in half... literally.

Cons: I admit I didn't do the max research before purchasing. I needed the size, almost as much as I needed the speed boost. Could another drive have been much faster? I'm not sure

Other Thoughts: I've been running a Lenovo x220 Tablet for the past year, and the samsung drive that came with it took forever to wake up, or had to be on max power settings. Since I use it both as a laptop and a tablet, waking quickly is important so I can save battery, but still react when a meeting calls for it.

This drive has stopped me looking for a repalcement. I have held back on loading windows 8, but I imagine that will speed things up even more.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD

Pros: significant increase in performance over RAID5 config, now I think I am ready to phase out my platters; Windows 8 boots in about 3-4 seconds, Yeow!

Cons: Was on sale when I bought her, now back at full price I may not be so quick to get another one. then again, I can be a cheap bastich, because its worth the money.

Other Thoughts: Sandforce controller??? A little too techy for me, All I want to know is does it work like its supposed to and from what I've seen, Hell yeah!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat low-profile (7mm) SSD

Pros: I installed this in a new Ivy Bridge ThinkPad T430s which only accommodates 7mm high drives in it's main bay. It has the highest WEI (w/ Windows 8 RTM) I've seen at 8.1. CrystalDiskMark was 518.7 MB/s seq. read, 298 MB/s seq. write. Overall performance is excellent. The T430s resumes from sleep faster than I can get my fingers onto the home row after opening the lid.

In addition to the drive, the box included two sets of mounting screws and a 3.5/2.5 adapter bracket for desktop chassis.

Cons: Sandforce controller uses compression meaning performance may not meet your expectations if you're working with data that isn't readily compressible.

Other Thoughts: I had been considering the Samsung 830 but, for the money, this seemed like a better deal and I'm glad I got the Transcend instead.
