1 out of 5 eggsPASS ON IT

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: It works most of the time

Cons: Does not work all of the time
Every reboot it changes IP addresses unless you set static IP addresses. Who wants to have to set every IP address. Am looking to replace it.

Other Thoughts: frustrating when watching Netflix and I keep losing signal. I actually think it is more than a range issue.

Skip looking to replace it, don't buy it in the first place.

Every wireless router I have had worked fine with no issues, this one is a bad one.

3 out of 5 eggsNice Router for Price BUT

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Cost
Features
Ease of Use

Cons: Poor handling of marginal signal from devices

Other Thoughts: I rely on the WiFi connection to access other devices and Internet in my house. I bought this to replace my NetGear G router. The N and GbE are performing well but after a long troubleshooting effort to find the source of loss of connection problems it became apparent what is causing it. There are 3 WiFi connected cellphones (G3, S5 and iPhone 6) that when they go outside to driveway my WiFi connection drops or becomes unusable during their time in driveway. If they don't dwell too long I barely notice but any longer I have trouble reconnecting. So I am replacing it with LinkSys AZ router. I hope it's better handling weak signals.

1 out of 5 eggs50/50 Shot at "OK"

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Fairly easy installation, great features, good fast throughput when they work.

Cons: High failure rate, half or more of the units we stocked out of over 50 units failed within 1-6 months. Some suffered various inexplicable routing issues resulting in completely inadequate throughput for basic internet functionality. The issues were fixed by replacing the unit.

A few of the units showed poor wireless performance in home deployments with wireless kicking in and out at random times.

Other Thoughts: We're an ISP, and we stocked these units for a year. Eventually, we had to replace 50% or more of the installations due to one or more of the issues stated in the "cons" list.

We no longer stock this unit, to say the least. It cost us a lot of man hours troubleshooting these units.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello VicInnovations,

We are sorry to hear that you experienced issues with the TEW-733GR. With firmware updates and troubleshooting measures we may be able to help users that run into issues. 5 out of 5 eggsWorks as it should

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Easy set up, Gig Lan ports, stable wifi.

Bought with a modem to replace the unreliable hardware provided by Time Warner.

Cons: For the price paid there are none.

Other Thoughts: Picked up on sale for under $30.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Gigabyte WAN and LAN ports. Ease of set up. IP Reservation is an excellent feature. Small footprint

Cons: Abysmal wireless range. Beyond a few feel, signal strength drops to the point of being useless.

Other Thoughts: Range issue first notice on the first day. I shelved it in lieu of my old Linksys WRT54GL. My Linksys finally died and was forced to use this again. I set it up and performed a firmware upgrade hoping this would improve wireless performance. No dice. Forgot how frustrated I was with this model and finally decided to write a review. Avoid this one at all costs!

5 out of 5 eggsTRENDnet N300 GB Router

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Shell Shocker Price was great!! Gigabit ports are fantastic. My download speeds before bounced from 10mbps to 40mbps, occasionally reaching 60 for a brief second or 2 (my ISP advertises 60mbps). Consistent speeds no less than60-65mbps and occasionally hitting 80mbps late night.
Wireless speeds, new HTC One M8 hits 45-50mbps while in the same room compared to 15mbps prior.
Easy setup and recommend getting the latest firmware before personalizing your settings.

Cons: Limited range with the internal antennaes. Speed drops from Install location to the bedroom with a shared wall. Still respectable but wasn't expecting to lose half my speed through 1" of drywall.

Other Thoughts: Can't comment on results using a n150 or n300 wireless adapter as I dont have one, but my phone supports N, dual band N, N 5ghz and N ac. Will update once I get a wireless adapter for the pc.

Great unit for the price, GB ports work flawlessly. Sale price makes it very attractive and will probably pick up a 2nd one to use as an access point and extend the range. Overall a very good buy

2 out of 5 eggsWorse than I thought

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Works out of the box, with the default settings and allows some basic changes.

Cons: Besides the shortcomings I flagged earlier, another feature that is advertised but does not work is Static Routing. The GUI simply won't allow one to enter a route as shown in the user manual.
Calling support was, again, useless. First they promised immediate escalation and a call back in 1 hour. 4 hours later nobody had called, so I called again, spent another 30 minutes explaining the problem and answering all kind of non-related questions (like who is my ISP and who is the manufacturer of other devices in my network...). Then the "technician" said he has to escalate the issue and someone will call me within 24 to 48 hours. Here we are, 20 hours later, still no resolution and no call.

Other Thoughts: Based on my previous experience, emailing "Adrian" brings nothing other than additional wasted time; by exchanging multiple emails with people who are trained to apologize, without providing any solutions or fixes.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat gigabit router.

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Gigabit ports. Bought this on a great sale. Needed it for the gigabit ports, which it has true gigabit routing, not just gigabit ports. WiFi settings are standard, although I don't really use WiFi much.

Takes less time to boot than my last router.

At most 10W power usage. Couple that with adjustable WiFi antenna power and toggle-able LAN ports, this thing runs cool and efficient.

Cons: The GUI is inferior to what I'm used to, but it does the job. No QoS and a rather limited number of port forwards you can have active. 25 Maximum port forwards? Am I reading that correctly? Still not sure if there's any working port triggering.

Other Thoughts: NewEgg is amazing. I use their Will-Call Service in NJ. This order was particularly time-sensitive in terms of my availability to receive the products. I've used Will-Call many times before, but this time, it wasn't just a typical show-up and sign ordeal. The Will-Call service personnel accommodated my particular needs professionally and reasonably, and I left a happy customer, as I always have and hope that I always will.

2 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

This review is from: TRENDnet TEW-733GR N300 Wireless Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Cheap
Good speeds while it lasted
Decent connectivity

Cons: Died after slightly more than a year
Drops connections on high load
Limited interface and options

Other Thoughts: I only paid about $30 for this a little more than a year ago, and I move many terabytes through it a month. I had no issues with VPN connectivity when the router was stable, but it does not handle high loads for extended periods of time. If you can find it for that price point, it's not bad, but I don't think I would pay much more than that for it.
