Which OBi Should I Get?

Obihai has four telephone adapters, currently - The OBi100, OBi110, OBi200 and OBi202. See the chart below for an overview of the product features. In essence, these products work with your phone in the same manner except for one key feature. The OBi110 has a physical port for an analog line service. This port, labeled LINE on the OBi110, can be thought of as a gateway to a traditional phone service. The service can be from a land line carrier. It can also be from a VoIP service, when the phone port of the service provider's device is plugged into the LINE port of the OBi110.

5 out of 5 eggsOUTSTANDING DEVICE

Pros: Ignore the naysayers. Google Voice OFFICIALLY Supports the OBI devices. 911 is 12 bucks a year with Anveo. Call quality is as good as Vonage. My first call was from North Carolina to Point Barrow Alaska. It sounded like they were next door and it was FREE!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is not to be confused with Magic Junk. This is a QUALITY device. It is easy to set up. Tech support and customer care are top notch. 911 is a dollar a month with Anveo. You cannot go wrong with this Obi device.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking strong with Google Voice

Pros: Provides crystal clear calls through a SIP trunk or GV.
Easy to use - plug your home phone line in and dial.
Highly configurable from the website or local lan.
Can make 911 calls using a paid for service.

Cons: Would like 1 more service profile.

Other Thoughts: I bought this before Google announced they'd discontinue GV. I switched to PhonePower and was none-too-happy with their call quality and dropped calls after Google dropped XMPP support for Voice. After a few months OBiHai now works with GV again and is about the only way to do it AFAIK. Hopefully they'll continue to be able to support GV in the future.

2 out of 5 eggsporting nightmare update

Pros: It works and is nearly free for North America. No access yet to international calls with ring.to.

Cons: After getting the info from future-nine's/earthlink carrier and giving it to ring.to a few more weeks and it was finally ported. Was getting strange calls from no known numbers. Obi support helped to resolve that.

Other Thoughts: Syntax of that help was correct by looking into the obi forum.
Not perfect but what do you want for nearly free service.

1 out of 5 eggsporting nightmare

Pros: It is simply.

Cons: voip companies "ring.to" and "future-nine" refuse to work together to get it done.

Other Thoughts: "ring.to" make you pay up front for e911 but is dropping the ball on this.

5 out of 5 eggs2 years and NO PHONE BILLS

Pros: Write down password use obi seems to be a real bear to give up your old one if you "misplace" it. Been over 2 years and have had NO Phone bills at all since then. Google Voice has worked flawlessly and you can even txt cell phones with it Also, with Voice you can choose to have calls and text voice called to connect you. Love calling back someone with no dialing.. but voice is ending and will have to get a OBI proved phone service soon. that is only $39,99 a year and that will not be to steep but worse than free,.

Cons: Google voice will not remain free. :-(

Other Thoughts: Really have not paid even 1 cent for phone service since I got this. How much have you paid? Add it up. X2+ years. Obi has been impressive over this time. Going to be real sad when Voice ends. Almost as sad that I will lose the texting ability when it ends. Google + Obi has saved me a pile of money with better service than any telco I have ever had!

1 out of 5 eggsno more google voice

Pros: loved it but..all good thigs must end.

Cons: oogle Voice: Not Supported on OBi Devices After May 15, 2014

Back at the end of October, Obihai announced Google would end its support for the XMPP communication protocol. This announcement came on the heels of Google's announcement that as of May 15th, XMPP would no longer be supported for third-party VoIP applications. The Google Voice service uses XMPP to connect the OBi to the service. With that, after May 15th Obihai will no longer support the Google Voice service on its OBi devices. More Info

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for DOY VoIP

Pros: * Low cost
* Very good voice quality
* Not tied to a specific VoIP provider
* Remote web management at obitalk.com
* Supports two VoIP service providers
* Supports softphones

Cons: * White plastic shows some discoloring after a year. Black or dark gray plastic would last longer.

Other Thoughts: Used the Obi100 with Google Voice for over a year with excellent results. It is very reliable and voice quality is about as good as landlines (assuming a stable Internet connection).

Due to GV discontinuing XMPP in May, I switched to Callcentric and Localphone. Callcentric has free DIDs in NY with free incoming calls. Localphone has low rates for outgoing calls on a pay per call basis. The GV DID can be forwarded to Callcentric so yo don't have to change numbers.

Having two service providers gives you the flexibility of having one for incoming calls and one for outgoing calls. You could also receive calls from both providers, although with a single phone jack you can't answer both calls simultaneously.

Many VoIP providers support the Obihai adapters without a fixed monthly fee that are very economical for low outgoing call volumes. If you make a lot of outgoing calls, a yearly plan such as Vestalink or Anveo may be justifiable.
