2 out of 5 eggsLoud!

Pros: My original PSU was having problems and creating "sparklies" on the HDMI output to the TV. This PSU solved that problem.

Cons: Even under a light load, the PSU fan revs up and gets pretty loud. This is definitely not suitable for HTPC use. I have to use headphones to watch TV! It looks like most FlexATX PSU's have similar noise problems, so I'm probably looking at transplanting the HTPC into a larger case with a standard PSU.

Also, the only two SATA power connectors are on the same wires and are not that far apart. In my case, it's a VERY tight stretch to supply both the HDD and the DVD drive.

Other Thoughts: This PSU seems good enough if you're using it in a rack mounted system or in an engineering lab with lots of fan noise already. It's not suitable for home office use and definitely not for HTPC use.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: None.

Cons: DOA. What more is there to say.

Other Thoughts: I have had Sparkle products in the past and found them to be reliable. I was looking to upgrade the PSU in my Shuttle box with something better after 2 capacitors recently went jiffy-pop. Replaced the caps and put the old PSU back in and am back up and running. Is it just me or are things just being made crappier and crappier these days. This is the 4th RMA computer item I've had to deal with this summer. I don't think I've had 4 RMA's total in the 10 years prior to this one.
