5 out of 5 eggsreally??

Pros: Great Drive

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: You people really need to quit bashing a product for your lack of technical knowledge of installing and using it properly, An ssd does not cause a cpu to heat up, video darkness, or firefox to glitch ... that would be your installtion and tweaking ( or non tweaking) of windows.

i will assume you are probably overclocking wrong also, and prob bought the cheapest parts you could get ......learn to build and optimize and review a product for what it is, not what you failed at.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Drobo compatible

Pros: Good price, good brand, small form factor

Cons: I bought it for my new Drobo 5N which refuses to use it due to a cache flushing issue with the SSD's Sandforce controller. Be sure to look at the Drobo tech notes for a compatible mSata drive since it needs cache flushing completion before acknowledgement to prevent data loss on a power failure.

Newegg specs say: "mSATA interface - fully compliant with industry standard, easy to fit, guaranteed to work" While I could have spent lots of time researching the nuances of the Drobo's mSata port, I had no idea I'd need to until it didn't actually work. The drive may be fine for other purposes, just not mine, hence the one egg.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Greg,
I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the confusion about the product specifications. The Sandforce controllers we use in all of our SSD products do not use any cache features. It is always best to check the exact technical specifications of a product to make sure you find what you need. We are here to help and can make product recommendations to upgrade/update any of your devices. For any further assistance with Kingston products, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

1 out of 5 eggsslow performance and higher CPU usage

Pros: i installed the unit on my ThinkPadE430 last week.

it took me a while to open the box. Once the unit is installed, it is easy to change the bios to boot from ssd and installed fresh OS - Windows 2008 R2, and still have the files from original rotate hard driver.

Cons: there is some performance issue.

i watched the youtube from firefox. you will hear sound/video glitch every 3-5 seconds and feel the hot air expelled by the CPU fan.

when install the OS, i extended the "System Reserved" partition to the whole SSD. This boot partition starting offset is 1,048,576 bytes - which is 256*4KB. So it is always 4K aligned and this is default.

I did not change sector size, it seems the default is 512 bytes.

the performance gets a little better after I moved the pagefile, all the temp folders, and firefox temp/history file to rotate disk. but user still could see the glitch about every 10 seconds, and feel the hot air.

it seems the firefox's cpu usages also higher compare to the rotate disk.

i guess, it might take longer time to complete the interrupt and the DPC routines for the SSD, which generate some heating and slow the disk operation.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Steve,
I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer our assistance. I may be misinterpreting your post but from my understanding you made the entire SSD the System Reserved partition. If that is the case then the Windows installation would still be running primarily off of the HDD and only the bootloader and recovery files would be on the SSD. At any rate, the timing of online content would generally not be affected by an SSD other than the initial loading time of the browser itself from the SSD. The issue described sounds to be a buffering issue which may be related to the driver of the Wireless or Ethernet adapter being used. Just to be cautious it would be best to make sure you have all drivers installed from Lenovo for this laptop since a clean install of Windows was performed. If you still experience issues, please contact us so we may be able to fully investigate the issue. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks as needed

Pros: Fast
Reliable
No noise
Stays cool
LOVES Linux Mint and OpenSUSE.

Cons: Little to no support for Windows 8.1... when I boot into windows 7, the screen displays properly. If I used windows 8.1, the screen is darker. When I tested the theory that it was the GPU, I used a standard WD HDD and the problem never occurred.

Other Thoughts: I would buy another.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. The issue described is very out of the ordinary. The drive itself should not affect your screen brightness. Of course there are the basics of making sure your display settings are correct and driver versions are the same between your HDD and SSD flavors of Windows 8.1. Also check for power saving settings. For further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

5 out of 5 eggsLightning fast.

Pros: -Actually have it in the computer I'm leaving this review for (Lenovo S405)
-13 Second boot time from two minutes
-Stays cool under stress in the laptop I'm using it in.

Cons: Took a little tweaking to get the comparability ideal for windows 8.1. No complaints otherwise.

Other Thoughts: Word to the wise, install the drivers for it. Don't expect the OS to do it for you.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat mSATA

Pros: Fast, stable, and worked right out of the box with a Gigabyte Brix running Ubuntu.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Expensive for the capacity as with most mSATA form factor SSDs. Just needed it for a low power HTPC on the Gigabyte Brix. Worked perfectly.

4 out of 5 eggsCheck Compatibility

Pros: I'm sure it's fast on a compatible platform.

Cons: So yeah, Newegg caught me with my pants down this time. Do a little extra foot work, this SSD is NOT compatible with any Mini PCIe slot, even though it fits physically.

Check your specific Motherboard/Laptop for compatibility with the mSATA spec, and specifically Intel's iteration of mSATA.

Other Thoughts: I can tell you it doesn't work on these boards.

Intel D525MO
Intel D2700MUD
ECS H61H2-I

And ECS's website is not conclusive on this board, FAQ says it's compatible (somewhat says) but doesn't mention it on the board's spec page.

Let's just say, If you are not 100% sure it says it's compatible, it's most likely not compatible, and Newegg doesn't refund for this product.

5 out of 5 eggsmSATA rocks!

Pros: Very little heat!

I'm using this with my motherboard that has a built in mSATA expansion port. It's Gigabyte Ultra Durable 4 Classic GA-P75-D3 Desktop Motherboard - Intel B75 Express Chipset.

I'm using this to boost my system boot up times using Intel rapid start technology.

Intel rapid start more or less works this way: You shut your PC down and instead of powering off, it goes into hibernation and loads everything out of memory onto the mSATA (or SSD). Then when you reboot (exit hibernation) it loads all the memory load off the mSATA into memory, greatly increasing boot times.

I now have a 6 second boot up vs 48 seconds from a traditional HDD.

Cons: Only down side is pricing. 79.99 for a 60GB mSATA? really?

Other Thoughts: I've always had great success with Kingston products, that's why I selected this mSATA over other brands. This device is no different.

I ran ATTO on this mSATA drive, but my mSATA port is only SATA II so I couldn't test the drive at it's full potential.

*These numbers are in SATA II mode
ATTO
Write 250~265MB
Read 275~285MB

Anyhow, I hope you find something useful in my review and thanks for reading!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: Good speed at a good price. I have been using this in my laptop for some time now. I am loving the speed and it just works. Great little product

Cons: Not a con I wish SSDs and MSATA devices would continue to fall in price so everyone can afford them.

Other Thoughts: Buy the correct product. Yes there are different slots out there that look very similar. Check your specs sheet to make sure these are compatible with your machine(laptop/desktop)

If you have zero understanding of the equipment you are buying the hardware for, please don't put you have the highest tech knowledge and rate the product low. It is misrepresenting the product by scoring it low because you purchased the wrong product. It is not Kingston's nor Newegg's fault that you just looked at the slot and thought it was the same. You need to check the complete specs before you purchase something. If it doesn't work then offer a review explaining why you gave it such low eggs but not because you don't know the different between a PATA slot and a SATA slot on your motherboard.
