5 out of 5 eggsBest Speed Per $, per second

This review is from: Plextor M5P Xtreme Series PX-256M5Pro 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Faster random read speeds, (100,000 IOPS), than Samsung, Crucial, and OCZ by quite a bit! Max read: 540mb/s & max write: 460mb/s. Very reliable and I've had it for almost a year. Make sure you update the drive via Plextor's website.

Cons: can't think of a single one.

Other Thoughts: I run 2 1TB HDDs and this single 256GB SSD. But now I'm considering jumping to a 480/500GB SSD and using the 256 SSD for some exclusive stuff as well as faster cache memory for Photoshop.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good.

This review is from: Plextor M5P Xtreme Series PX-256M5Pro 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: 5-year warranty
speed
reliable so far

Cons: Plextor utility application does not recognize the drive in my notebook for some reason, a minor inconvenience. The drive works 100%.

Other Thoughts: This is my first SSD drive. I wanted one with a 5-year warranty that was in my budget. This unit delivers.

1 out of 5 eggsSSD as fast as 5400RPM

This review is from: Plextor M5P Xtreme Series PX-256M5Pro 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This is an SSD and when used with a USB 3.0 connection has slightly faster trasnfer rates than a regular 5400 RPM 2.5" drive.

Cons: For an SSD the transfer rate was noticeably slow. I have owned a variety of SSD's and this has been the slowest out of all. Used as a Server main drive, I ended up replacing with another SSD I had on the shelf.

3 out of 5 eggsNice HD for almost 12 months

This review is from: Plextor M5P Xtreme Series PX-256M5Pro 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Good read write and nice clone software

Cons: Laptop is getting laggy these last 4-6 weeks with regens, read and writes, while using AutoCAD and Revit. Presumed it was the may be the video card or perhaps HD.
Had time to spend troubleshooting. Its the HD failing!
Did a SMART check and received several errors, one being Uncorrectable Sector Count, which means a potential indicator of imminent electromechanical failure.
Scanned with windows error checking and confermed

Other Thoughts: Need to contact Plextor Monday

5 out of 5 eggsPlextor M5Pro Extreme 256G

This review is from: Plextor M5P Xtreme Series PX-256M5Pro 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Reliability
2.4mill MTBF
100,000 IOPS
5yr warranty
7mm height

Cons: the lousy 3.5" bracket that is included
backup/cloning software included did not work

Other Thoughts: Method of packaging the unit that Newegg used was terrible. They packaged it in a padded envelope which had big huge boot prints on it and was torn up a little. Opening the package revealed that the manufacturer's box showed signs of being stepped on. This should have been placed in a box to better protect it. Apparently it's ok to not worry about the money that I spent on the unit if it had been damaged. Come on Newegg get with the program and use better packaging methods.

5 out of 5 eggsSo much faster than Stock HD

This review is from: Plextor M5P Xtreme Series PX-256M5Pro 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Received this drive a few weeks ago, and I installed it today. Very fast, much faster than my old drive.

Cons: None to report so far.

Other Thoughts: I installed it in my 2010 Macbook Pro 13 inch, which has a SATA 2 connection, not SATA 3. In BlackMagic, I got 260/210 Mbps Reads/Writes, which was again bottlenecked by SATA 2. I have also used TRIM enabler to enable trim commands, which i recomend. To any who are considering getting an SSD, I would suggest it because it can only do good for your computer.

4 out of 5 eggsFast and good quality

This review is from: Plextor M5P Xtreme Series PX-256M5Pro 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Loaded Win 7 fast. Never had a SSD before so it kinda amazed me. Love the mounting tray. Running a Phenom II x4 955 with boot times around 30sec. Have been using this for a few months and am very pleased.

Cons: Little pricey but I wanted a good name because these drives seem a little more prone to failure.

Other Thoughts: Hope the sizes get bigger on these without the price going up too much. Using a 1tb for a second drive.

5 out of 5 eggsThe first one failed, but NewEgg made it right!

This review is from: Plextor M5P Xtreme Series PX-256M5Pro 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I ordered a Plextor PX-256M5Pro SSD, and when it arrived, it worked for a few hours, then failed to be recognized on my computer. A call to the Plextor tech site, proved the SSD was faulty. I then called the NewEgg site, and explained the problem. Pepper at NewEgg understood the problem, arranged for return of the faulty drive, and immediately ordered a new replacement for me. She explained the procedure, and what to expect. She was knowledgeable, courteous, kind, and cheerful. I am well pleased with NewEgg, and this experience has validated my belief in NewEgg. I have purchased from them for several years, and will certainly continue to do so. BTW, the replacement drive works cloned properly, and works great!

Cons: No one likes an item to fail, but products (like people) are not perfect. The only disappointment regarding the failure episode was MY choice of shipping options. I had selected the no-cost EggSaver option on the original order, and the replacement was shipped in the same mode. (I had not chosen/paid a faster replacement shipping arrangement.) I am about 120 miles from the warehouse. The replacement item was mis-shipped by the CARRIER (USPS), (NOT NewEgg's fault) to an incorrect location directly away from me, before it finally arrived. It was ordered late on a Thursday, and arrived six days later, on Wednesday.

Other Thoughts: In the future, I will likely choose a faster shipping method, unless I truly do not care when the order arrives. I do not understand why the cheaper shipping arrangement involves two carriers, and is not handled by a single carrier. That would seem to be cheaper (and more dependable), due to less handling of orders

5 out of 5 eggsSSD is boss

This review is from: Plextor M5P Xtreme Series PX-256M5Pro 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Works exactly as it should. This was my first venture into SSD's and I couldn't be happier. Just remember to only use SSD as your bootdrive. Get a large (1TB or higher) HDD for your storage drive. Move all your heavy files such as music, photo's, video's, program files, and all your downloads to the storage drive. Do not use your SSD for storage as it can slow down. Keeping your SSD as only a bootdrive means your machine will fire up in seconds every single time, unlike several minutes with HDD's.

Cons: Absolutely None

Other Thoughts: If you aren't sure how to install SSD's, how to add storage drives, and how to move your files, then check out YouTube and look up NewEgg and there you'll find lots, I mean lots of great 'How-To' videos for how to do it right. I've been building computers since late 90's, and with the newer technology, there are still things I don't know but NewEgg's YouTube channel gave me exactly the information I needed and it works like a charm. SSD's are great but only if properly used.
