Kingston's enterprise-class E100 solid-state drive is ideal for mission-critical environments such as datacentres, which need to be up and running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. E100 combines impressive endurance and reliability with power-failure support to ensure uninterrupted operation. E100 offers 10X endurance over typical client SSDs, with 30K program/erase cycles on E100 vs. 3K program/erase cycles on client SSDs. It features an SF-2500 enterprise-class processor, DuraWrite for maximum read/write performance and endurance and RAISE for advanced error correction. With speed read/write performance delays of large data sets, E100 helps solve the IO latency bottlenecks in servers. It enables larger enterprise virtualisation projects by increasing the number of virtual systems supported using the existing hardware infrastructure.

It is strongly recommended that this drive NOT be used as a single boot drive. These drives are designed to be used in a RAID configuration in a server environment. If you intend to use this drive as a single boot drive, you MUST disable the TRIM function otherwise drive instability and data loss is likely to occur. This problem will not occur if the drive is configured in a RAID. TRIM commands cannot be sent to the drive when SSDs are in a RAID configuration. We are working on a firmware update to resolve this problem.
In the meantime, if you are using it as a single boot drive, you can disable TRIM. To disable the TRIM command in Windows 7 and Server 2008, type the following and press enter in the Elevated command: fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 1

In Linux, TRIM must be enabled manually. In Mac OS, TRIM is only supported with Apple branded drives.

5 out of 5 eggsReliability, performance

Pros: These are re-branded Intel enterprise SSDs at an extreme cost savings. The performance of these drives are impressive but the real kicker is that they seem to be hyper-reliable.

Cons: No cons.

Other Thoughts: I run a total of 42 of these drives in production and local database environments with extremely IO/heavy relational db load. The brutal pounding these drives take every day is astonishing. I initially purchased our first patch of these drives based off a recommendation of a manager of a large datacenter in Chicago who deploys these drives in extremely great quantities. A definite high recommendation for applications with high-io requirements.

5 out of 5 eggsrestricted use

Pros: Great specs. Excellent tech support person. 5 eggs represents benefit of the doubt since not being able to put the drive to the use I intended I have no experience with its operation.

Cons: When I got the drive out of the sealed plastic packaging it came in I discovered on the back side a printed paper adhesive label warning that it should be connected only to a raid or raid like controller and not to an SATA port on a motherboard. I called Kingston tech support, and the person I talked to there said that the restriction is because this drive could be damaged if subjected to a trim command. He said that this problem had just been discovered and that they were working on a fix.

Other Thoughts: Newegg needs to update the product description to give a prominent warning about the restricted applicability of this drive with its firmware as of this date.
