5 out of 5 eggsHave to use a USB extender to get reliable signal, but still good

This review is from: NETGEAR AC600 Dual Band Wi-Fi USB Mini Adapter -  (A6100)

Pros: First, some perspective, I have had my gaming desktop hooked directly into my router, (Aris TG780 Xfinity version) and would get a constant 100-150 Mbps down speed, and about 80 Mbps up speed. Recently, though, I moved my setup to my basement, which does not have direct ethernet connections. My setup is sitting about 40-50 feet from my router. I have had a bad history with this router's WiFi capabilities, so I knew that whatever I get will probably not be performing at it's maximum potential. Where my desktop is now, I used to game on a laptop over WiFi, and had the same connectivity problems that I have now, so it's not the product that is a problem, it's my WiFi.

So, with that out of the way, straight out of the box, it was extremely simple to set up and connect to the WiFi. The software is a little lacking in the information category, but I can look past that. While plugged directly into the front of my computer though, my connection would drop about once a minute. I simply bought a 6 foot USB extender and now have the USB dongle attached to the wall on the landing of my stairs, which are right next to my setup. In this position, I can get a constant 15-20 Mbps down speed, and about 11-13 Mbps up speed. Once again, while this is a major decrease from being directly wired, it is my router that is at fault, not this product.

Cons: None, I just have bad WiFi, and need to get around to running ethernet through my house.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

This review is from: NETGEAR AC600 Dual Band Wi-Fi USB Mini Adapter -  (A6100)

Pros: When it works it seems to work fine, a little on the slow side though

Cons: It likes to disconnect every few minutes even though the router is downstairs right below me

Other Thoughts: I have tried re installing the program that came on the disk, looking for new drivers, and exiting and closing the program but nothing seems to work. Ive ran speed tests and everything seems to be fine but it just wont stop dropping the signal I am thinking that I might need to return this product (bought from Wal mart) and just installing a wireless card in my PC instead

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Billy,

We are very sorry to hear that your A6100 is disconnecting every few minutes and would like nothing more than to get you working.

The best way to get it working would be to email us at newegg@netgear.com with a copy and paste of your review.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid. Get ASUS (USB-AC56)

This review is from: NETGEAR AC600 Dual Band Wi-Fi USB Mini Adapter -  (A6100)

Pros: Just about works with windows 8.1 if you get the latest drivers.

Cons: This and the other larger Netgear AC adapter would not connect at 5ghz to my Nighthawk router either on windows 8.1 or windows 7. Not a good chipset in these devices. Driver and software is not good either.

I can highly recommend the ASUS (USB-AC56) though.

Other Thoughts: As at the end of February the only decent USB AC adapter is the ASUS (USB-AC56) if you are looking for AC connection and speeds.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

You should have no trouble connecting to the R7000, and we'd like to work with you to get to the bottom of the issue. Please get in touch with us at newegg@netgear.com and provide a copy/paste of this review. Our engineers will be happy to help!

5 out of 5 eggsNetgear A6100 Mini Adapter

This review is from: NETGEAR AC600 Dual Band Wi-Fi USB Mini Adapter -  (A6100)

Pros: Easy to setup and install. Connected right to my netgear router in minutes. The connection is very fast and the 3G from 50 feet away is strong.

Cons: None so far.

4 out of 5 eggsSeamless Installation, Fast Performance

This review is from: NETGEAR AC600 Dual Band Wi-Fi USB Mini Adapter -  (A6100)

Pros: Installed in seconds. Windows 8.1 installed the drivers instantly and sync'd my wireless settings from my other pc.
This isn't the fastest wifi adapter, but it is great for the money.

Cons: none

4 out of 5 eggsgreat buy

This review is from: NETGEAR AC600 Dual Band Wi-Fi USB Mini Adapter -  (A6100)

Pros: easy to connect if you only use the windows driver. very good connection speed. I use a netgear router also. I like the dual band. I have several things connected wireless so I think useing the dual band helps with connection speeds. great product. I would buy again.

Cons: soft ware is a little overboard. thats why i only use the windows driver. simple!!!!

2 out of 5 eggsLittle Improvement

This review is from: NETGEAR AC600 Dual Band Wi-Fi USB Mini Adapter -  (A6100)

Pros: Less than 1mb per second improvement over "n network" at 1 foot range. Still, an improvement. Tested using two laptops, and a desktop computer with nearly identical results. Asus AC router used.

5Ghz has no local traffic in my neighborhood. No competition for channels! Still.... poor results for the money: AC router and this adapter.

Cons: Twice the price of a "N" adapter, with extremely low improved speed results! Transfer of 15GB Bluray movie resulted in very little improvement over my existing N adapters.

Other Thoughts: Only received 2 stars, as less than 1mb improvement is NOT what was claimed by their adverts. I would NOT suggest a purchase of this product based upon my experience. Works fine at 2.4Ghz... did not have any drops at 5Ghz (as I have read this model can cause).

Manufacturer Response:

Hi mikalg,

We'd like to work with you directly to help you get the best performance from the adapter. Please get in touch with us directly at newegg@netgear.com.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team
