5 out of 5 eggsJust What I Needed

Pros: I chose the TP-Link TL-PS110P because someone said it worked with Windows 7 64bit. I took it out of the box, hooked it up, and followed the instructions. The installation wizard that came with the port wouldn't run so I downloaded the installation wizard from the web site. It ran and installed the software and the driver.

Cons: None so far

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: The device is quick to connect, and easy to setup. We were up and running within minutes. In theory it's a great device to keep legacy printers up and running

Cons: I believe we got a defective product. About 2 times a week, more or less, the device will stop communicating with the network. There is no rhyme or reason that we've found but suddenly the device stops responding to pings and stops printing anything. The only fix is to do a hardware reset, which is mildly annoying to do in an office setting 2 times a week.

I have contacted support 3 times now for this issue over the last 5 months and they are still unable to give a solution. Their support is slow to respond and they are not accommodating at all.

Other Thoughts: If the device worked, it would be great, but crashing twice a week isn't an option. Their support could also use some improvement.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Upgrade from Hawking

Pros: Allows me to continue using my old Brother and Canon Printers on the network with both Win7 and Win XP. An inexpensive upgrade.

Cons: None really. Easily replaced my Hawking devices.

Other Thoughts: This print server works on both my Win XP 32-bit and Win7 64-bit machines. I had to install these because my Hawking print server ports were not recognized by my new Windows 7 PC. I was hesitant about replacing my Hawking print servers, as they have always worked well with no problems.
However, these print servers were easy to install. The TP-Link print server is set at a default of My Network is 192.168.1.x. So when I connected the print server to my network, my browser could not access the port. I know you can temporarily change the PC to a 192.168.0.x just to access the print server, but I tried the download file "" first. It contains the setup file "PSWizard-LPR.exe". This program quickly recognized the port and allowed me to change the IP address to without changing any network settings on my PC. It then created a new printer port "IP_192.168.1.10-1" (This can be renamed to whatever you want). At that point, it was just a matter of adding this new port to my existing print drivers on all my Windows 7 and Windows XP PCs.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Full featured print server, low cost.

Cons: Web based administrative interface browser compatibility.

Other Thoughts: The fact that the web based admin interface didn't work with Google Chrome made setting this up take much longer than it needed to. I ended up using telnet to change the devices settings before realizing that the web interface works with Internet Exploder. Haven't had time to check for firmware updates, but this was a little irritating. How hard is it to make a web page work in all browsers (i.e. not hard). Besides this, I'm happy with the device, and would recommend it.

4 out of 5 eggsexcellent product, awkward setup

Pros: Tiny - easily fits inside cable compartment of HP 6P. My first server failed for reasons unknown after 1+ years, but it had worked fine in the meantime so I bought another to replace it. I needed help getting it installed, but the ladies on the help desk were knowledgeable and patient.

Cons: Setup is awkward. It comes with the static IP address You have to use the setup utility (a Windows program from the included CD, or downloaded from the TP-Link website) to reset it. But you first have to configure your Windows machine with a static IP address on that subnet (e.g.,, or the setup utility cannot find the print server. That part is not explained in the documentation. The rest of the setup is straightforward. Once finished, you can of course reconfigure the Windows machine for DHCP.

Other Thoughts: When I installed the first server, I didn't have to configure the Windows machine with a static IP. That may only be necessary under Windows 8.

5 out of 5 eggsSaved my bacon!

Pros: I am using the paeallel version with an HP4P Laserjet which was NOT listed in the compatibility table. However, it works like a charm connected to my Ethernet-connected router (hard-wired). If you have the option, the USB may provide a faster data transfer if that is a consideration for you.

Cons: Haven't detected any so far

Other Thoughts: Great idea which saves you from obsoleting your decades old printer!

3 out of 5 eggsWorks fine once you get it set up

Pros: Good once it's setup. Don't use the CD. Download the latest software from their website.

Cons: I was pulling my hair out trying to set its IP address. Using the software on the CD I couldn't get my changes to stick. It kept reverting to the wrong IP. I read some comments and one said CD software was no good and to download it from the website instead.

5 out of 5 eggseasy installation on HP LaserJet 4Plus

Pros: As small as a Centronics parallel port connector
Easy installation
Works with HP LaserJet 4Plus

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: This print server is a very slick little device. It attached to the back of my HP LaserJet 4Plus printer and took up no more room than the parallel port cable connector it replaced. I plugged in power and cat 5e cable and turned everything on.
I loaded in the mini CD and it loaded an installation program on my Win 7 64 bit computer. I followed the quick start guide directions. I had no trouble accessing the server from the installation program, with IP address, even though my subnet is on 192.168.1.x. I changed the IP address to, same as the old Net Gear print server I was replacing (failed after ~10 years). The install utility showed the settings for the print server on the "finish" screen, and I noticed the print server name was IP_192.168.1.10-1. The print server name I used in the Net Gear server was "HPLaserJet4Plus", so I logged into the print server through IE at the IP address, as I was used to from the Net Gear, and changed the name to match my network's settings.
I tested the TL-PS110P on two desktops and one wireless laptop and they all printed without touching the old drivers. It doesn't get much better than that.
When I checked into the TP-Link website, my printer wasn't even on the compatibility list, but it works fine anyway. I'm glad I didn't check that before I bought the server. All in all, a painless experience, which is rare.

One strange quirk. During the initial installation, one is instructed to select the model of print server, and TL-PS110-U is pointed to in the quick installation guide, so I chose that. Well the -U model is the USB server. This model is -P, parallel port. Everything worked anyway, so I'm not sure what to tell you about that.

2 out of 5 eggsPrint Server Fail

Pros: None

Cons: Can't get it to work with my LaserJet 4100 HP because I have a iMac and the software doesn't work with mac OS, atleast there is nothing on the website or paperwork that indicates it.
