1 out of 5 eggsDONT BUY THIS

Pros: FAST

Cons: it stops every 3 mins dose not like windows at all

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

Can you tell us which version of Windows you are on? If you are on Windows 8 or 8.1, are you using the newest version of the available drivers? Please give the newest drivers a try, and if you still encounter problems, please email us at newegg@netgear.com and we'll be happy to assist.

Regards,

1 out of 5 eggsterrible don't even consider

Pros: Is working sometimes even a pro? I thought that's just expected from a high priced wifi adapter....

Cons: Don't buy this adapter.

It has some serious flaws with Windows 8 with intermediate disconnection.

Updated drivers, roll back drivers, using Netgear software to connect and changing properties of adapter never seem to do the trick.

Nothing but hassle and frustration I've had with this thing makes me want to do what the gang in "Office Space" the move did to the printer. You know, where they took it out back and gave it a mafia style beat down.

I'm not sure why netgear hasn't come up with an easy driver fix. My only theory is that it's something more and they've just given up on it.

Their support only suggest things that might make a few peoples work but doesn't address this one serious flaw that's all over forums and tech review sites.

I'm not one to really come back and make reviews on items that I didn't like, or that I liked but this one really deserves a 1 star.

Why they haven't discontinued this product after 2 years? ...I'm assuming maybe they made too many of them can be the only reason.

The issue is shared by many others! BEWARE!

Other Thoughts: For the same money, or a fraction more you can get the next generation of these where most users in forums who complained said as soon as they switched adapters everything worked perfectly.

Again, it might just be some "simple" setting, but in today's age and especially from a Netgear product, they should have this thing so my grandma can just plug it in and never have to think about it again.

Anything less from Netgear is a negative and justifies this review.

1 out of 5 eggsA6200 + Win 8.1 = Horrible Experience

Pros: Fast when connected

Cons: Constantly loses connectivity on both 5G and 2.4G. Worst adapter that I have had on my system. No problems at all whenever I plug in 2 of my old adapters other than their inherent inability to take full advantage of my internet connection speed.

Other Thoughts: Netgear Tech Support is clueless. They always pretend that this is "first time" they have heard the issue. Yet a simple Google search and a check on Netgear's own forums reveals the trouble.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

We'd like to help. Please get in touch with us at newegg@netgear.com and let us know which driver/firmware version you are running. If you are on Windows 8.1, you can try updating to the Windows 8.1 specific driver that addresses some known issues. We want to do whatever we can to get things working and get you a warranty replacement if necessary.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: I'd have to say none, since I never got it to work properly.

Cons: Drops connection constantly. Couldn't stay in any online game for 5 minutes. My troubleshooting couldn't get it to keep a connection. Ping tests showed a packet loss of 3-5%. Tried it on two different machines and on Windows 7 and 8 with newest drivers downloaded from Netgear each time. Had just as poor performance when I moved the machine a mere 5 feet from the router with clear line of sight. I'm amazed at it's ineffectiveness. I should have read the reviews here first and just returned it.

Other Thoughts: There are other better, cheaper options.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Morgizern,

If you are running the latest firmware and drivers and still experiencing the dropped connections, this sounds like it may be a rare case of a hardware issue. Please get in touch with us at newegg@netgear.com so our engineers can troubleshoot and get you a warranty replacement if necessary.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY!

Pros: It works great on my 32bit system, and it works reasonably well on my 64bit system when it stays connected. Too bad it does not stay connected.

Cons: My 64bit system loses connection with this device every time my system reboots or wakes up. I have tried every solution I could find online to fix this widespread problem, but nothing has worked. Do not buy this device!

Manufacturer Response:

Hi fornus,

We'd like to investigate this further. Please get in touch with us at newegg@netgear.com and let us know the version of Windows you are running as well as the solutions you have tried.

4 out of 5 eggsAdapter

Pros: Works 99% of the time

Cons: The other 1% makes me get unlazy and unplug it from the back of my computer and plug it back in. I didn't think it was that big of a deal though, since it doesn't happen that often.

Other Thoughts: Other than that, its a great device. I, unlike other people, used this for my newly built PC, rather than a Laptop. I'm sure laptops probably work better, but its still a great device nonetheless.

1 out of 5 eggsStarted off strong, but in the end, FAIL.

Pros: Easy setup, solid construction, fast and continuous connection with no hiccups.

Cons: Completely stopped working in 3 months of use. Not happy! What happened to NetGear? Their quality control has suffered dramatically and apparently I'm not the only one to complain of this problem over the past few years.

I could have bought 2 Dynex pieces of junk for this price and they would have lasted 10X longer.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

We'd like to help - we stand behind the A6200, and if it's failed after only a few months, we want to work with you to determine what caused this and get you a warranty replacement if necessary. Also, if you upgraded to Windows 8.1 when it stopped working, there are some known compatibility issues experienced by a small number of users -- and we have a beta firmware available for testing if you would like us to send it to you.

Please get in touch with us at newegg@netgear.com and we'll be happy to take the next steps to get things working for you!

1 out of 5 eggsNetgear KNOWS this device doesn't work

Pros: None. It might look kool. But at the same time you wouldn't want it sticking out the side of a laptop. Its pretty bulky

Cons: Its doesn't work. Can get much more con than that.

I have a NETGEAR A6200 wireless adapter using NETGEAR software, trying to connect to a R6300 NETGEAR router. And it doesn't work.

By doesn't work.... I mean. Nada.

Customer support says..... uninstall the software that came with it and install something else they THINK my might fix the problem. It doesn't.

Google A6200 won't connect and you will see everything you need to know about this defective device.

Netgear KNOWS it doesn't work and keeps right on selling it.

Other Thoughts: There should be a class action lawsuit against Netgear for this product. Its not false advertising. Its selling a product they KNOW doesn't work.

And their response? I pay to send it back and they will send me another one. Yeah right.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi iceviking,

We want to help. Are you running Windows 8.1? We have a beta driver available that resolves some known compatibility issues with Windows 8.1, and we'll be happy to provide it for your use.

Please contact us at newegg@netgear.com and we'll be happy to assist!

1 out of 5 eggsNo Windows 8 Support

Pros: Fast when it is running

Cons: No Windows 8 support.

Other Thoughts: I should mention that I bought this device for a Windows 8.1 machine at a brick and mortar store and ever since I have plugged it in I have had nothing but problems with driver compatibility issues. DO NOT buy this device if you are running Windows 8. Wait until Netgear releases functional drivers.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

We do have a Windows 8.1 beta driver available for testing. Please contact us at newegg@netgear.com and we'll be happy to provide it to you to try out.
