1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: blinding AC and N speeds. shocking,,,,fast,, there is HOPE!!!
and on AC, wow. (802ac) not alternating current. LOL..

Cons: buy dies, every 1 hour , goes dead, in device manager.
only in windows 8.1, never windows 7 (4 win 8 systems here)
tried on USB2 and 3 ports.
fails direct connected. no cable too..
will some tims do a netflix movie for 2hrs.

but fails skype in 1hr or less like clock work.
ran all drivers for from v. dot 20 to 35. 35 is current beta.
the 35 beats them all, the older ones die, at system idle.pathetic that.

Other Thoughts: systems are all M5a99x evo based, all with tons of mem. 12gb in one.
and ssd , and all had clean loads of 8.1
and 8.1 killed (no driver ever) for DWA140 dongle. so we bought this.
hoping that it would have a longer life that w7 dongles dont have.
many USB/WIFI are WIN8 , DOA.
so AC is the way to go but is bleeding edge.
why didn't netgear get certified at MS with windows 8 ALFA, ? what joke.
a day late and a dollar short.

sad to see.

i only need it , in one room that a CAT 6 cable can never go. ever.
I did find a RAlink RT3072 base dongle today, and its OK.
cheers !

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid like the plague

Pros: When it works, it's absolutely great. Crazy fast speeds and stellar range.

Cons: The only problem is it drops connectivity every 5 to 30 minutes. I've changed routers, changed computers, changed OS, and it's definitely the USB device. To reset it, I just unplug it and plug it back in, but this becomes annoying very fast. From the looks of other reviews, this hardware is bunk. Do not buy.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy if you have windows 8

Pros: None, stay away

Cons: Can't stay connect to the internet for more then a minute or so on my windows 8 PC. Also lose a lot of speed from my router to this adapter on my windows 7 PC. Range is also quite poor

Other Thoughts: I get 40mps at home. With this installed on my windows 7 device my PC pulled around 7mps as the only device connected which was pretty poor but at least it stayed connected to the internet. After plugging the adapter into my windows 8 device and installing the latest driver, 1.0.0.26 I think, I couldn't get the adapter to stay connect to the internet for more then a second. Range is bad as well. 20 feet away and 1 wall between the router and I and I had a 2 bar connection. My girlfriends 5 yr old laptop has 4 bars for the same distance. Avoid this adapter.

4 out of 5 eggsintermediate disconect

Pros: simple interface.

Cons: Random disconnects caused by low power usage. You got it right. Because power usage drops below a certain level computer will have disconnect issues. follow this simple guide to fix the issue for most people. http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/23352/~/a6200-or-wnda3100v2-wireless-adapter-intermittently-disconnects

1 out of 5 eggsterrible don't even consider

Pros: Is working sometimes even a pro? I thought that's just expected from a high priced wifi adapter....

Cons: Don't buy this adapter.

It has some serious flaws with Windows 8 with intermediate disconnection.

Updated drivers, roll back drivers, using Netgear software to connect and changing properties of adapter never seem to do the trick.

Nothing but hassle and frustration I've had with this thing makes me want to do what the gang in "Office Space" the move did to the printer. You know, where they took it out back and gave it a mafia style beat down.

I'm not sure why netgear hasn't come up with an easy driver fix. My only theory is that it's something more and they've just given up on it.

Their support only suggest things that might make a few peoples work but doesn't address this one serious flaw that's all over forums and tech review sites.

I'm not one to really come back and make reviews on items that I didn't like, or that I liked but this one really deserves a 1 star.

Why they haven't discontinued this product after 2 years? ...I'm assuming maybe they made too many of them can be the only reason.

The issue is shared by many others! BEWARE!

Other Thoughts: For the same money, or a fraction more you can get the next generation of these where most users in forums who complained said as soon as they switched adapters everything worked perfectly.

Again, it might just be some "simple" setting, but in today's age and especially from a Netgear product, they should have this thing so my grandma can just plug it in and never have to think about it again.

Anything less from Netgear is a negative and justifies this review.

1 out of 5 eggsA6200 + Win 8.1 = Horrible Experience

Pros: Fast when connected

Cons: Constantly loses connectivity on both 5G and 2.4G. Worst adapter that I have had on my system. No problems at all whenever I plug in 2 of my old adapters other than their inherent inability to take full advantage of my internet connection speed.

Other Thoughts: Netgear Tech Support is clueless. They always pretend that this is "first time" they have heard the issue. Yet a simple Google search and a check on Netgear's own forums reveals the trouble.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

We'd like to help. Please get in touch with us at newegg@netgear.com and let us know which driver/firmware version you are running. If you are on Windows 8.1, you can try updating to the Windows 8.1 specific driver that addresses some known issues. We want to do whatever we can to get things working and get you a warranty replacement if necessary.

NETGEAR Team

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: I'd have to say none, since I never got it to work properly.

Cons: Drops connection constantly. Couldn't stay in any online game for 5 minutes. My troubleshooting couldn't get it to keep a connection. Ping tests showed a packet loss of 3-5%. Tried it on two different machines and on Windows 7 and 8 with newest drivers downloaded from Netgear each time. Had just as poor performance when I moved the machine a mere 5 feet from the router with clear line of sight. I'm amazed at it's ineffectiveness. I should have read the reviews here first and just returned it.

Other Thoughts: There are other better, cheaper options.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Morgizern,

If you are running the latest firmware and drivers and still experiencing the dropped connections, this sounds like it may be a rare case of a hardware issue. Please get in touch with us at newegg@netgear.com so our engineers can troubleshoot and get you a warranty replacement if necessary.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY!

Pros: It works great on my 32bit system, and it works reasonably well on my 64bit system when it stays connected. Too bad it does not stay connected.

Cons: My 64bit system loses connection with this device every time my system reboots or wakes up. I have tried every solution I could find online to fix this widespread problem, but nothing has worked. Do not buy this device!

Manufacturer Response:

Hi fornus,

We'd like to investigate this further. Please get in touch with us at newegg@netgear.com and let us know the version of Windows you are running as well as the solutions you have tried.
