1 out of 5 eggsAweful

This review is from: D-Link Cloud Router 2500 (DIR-836L), Wireless N750, Dual-Band, Gigabit Ports, USB SharePort, mydlink enabled

Pros: I like that is has a usb media port, but i don't use it so that may not work either.

Cons: Unfortunately, I bought this product at the store without looking at the reviews. I literally have to reset my router every time I get on my computer because it is so slow. It doesn't drop the connection completely, I just get super slow speeds. On my Desktop I have to reconnect to the stupid thing everytiime I restart. Even then sometimes i have to connect more than once. If that wasn't bad enough, the customer service has been hard to contact. I guess i'll keep trying, but these reviews are accurate. This thing sucks.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy

This review is from: D-Link Cloud Router 2500 (DIR-836L), Wireless N750, Dual-Band, Gigabit Ports, USB SharePort, mydlink enabled

Pros: None any more...

Cons: After just under 2 months the wireless ability of this router quit working. I've been fighting their tech support for a week to get an RMA number to replace the unit.

Other Thoughts: What's happened to D-Link? They used to make some of the best routers on the market. No so much any more, and they back them with terrible support. I'm an IT professional, and buy dozens of routers for various purposes a month. I used to be almost 100% D-Link. After numerous failures lately, I'm done with D-Link. Find another solution and stay away from D-Link.

1 out of 5 eggsDied in 2 months...

This review is from: D-Link Cloud Router 2500 (DIR-836L), Wireless N750, Dual-Band, Gigabit Ports, USB SharePort, mydlink enabled

Pros: Simple and fast router. Great admin interface. Plenty of features that are easy to use.

Cons: My unit died in just under 2 months of use.

Other Thoughts: I'm a long time D-Link fan, but this router has me at odds with this company. I've never had a router live such a short life. And to make matters worse, I can't seem to get their tech support to respond to me to get the unit repaired. I guess I'll have to move on to another brand.

2 out of 5 eggsKinda sucks

This review is from: D-Link Cloud Router 2500 (DIR-836L), Wireless N750, Dual-Band, Gigabit Ports, USB SharePort, mydlink enabled

Pros: Looks nice. Easy to set up.

Cons: Drops internet. Would not read external HDD.

Other Thoughts: Bought this is mid-June, 2013. Couldn't try it out til mid-July, after my 30 day return policy was over. Set up was E through my Ipad. But that's where the good news stops.
I bought it as a backup to my Buffalo Router which was 100% flawless but single-band. The Dlink immediately started dropping the internet connection and lagging in video compared to the Buffalo. And the external hard drive the worked perfectly on my Buffalo would not even show up on the Dlink.
If I had days left, I would return it. But I guess I'll just throw it in the closet and hope for a firmware upgrade.

2 out of 5 eggsnot happy

This review is from: D-Link Cloud Router 2500 (DIR-836L), Wireless N750, Dual-Band, Gigabit Ports, USB SharePort, mydlink enabled

Pros: no eye searing blue lights, easy interface

Cons: i bought this to replace a 3 year old DIR-655 hoping to get better HD streaming and better overall wireless performance by using 5GHZ to avoid overlapping with my neighbors. I got neither one. wifi takes forever to connect, has less range and still drops out more than my old 655 even using the exact same channels. latest firmware, still no change. This was my third D-Link router, might be the last.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value, Easy to Intall/Configure -- A solid option

This review is from: D-Link Cloud Router 2500 (DIR-836L), Wireless N750, Dual-Band, Gigabit Ports, USB SharePort, mydlink enabled

Pros: Very easy to setup. Admin software was excellent and really simple to change the router password. Also, despite not having external antennas... the range is really good in our 3-story house (with the router located in the attic above it all.) Also, the D-Link IP Security camera connected really easily.

One thing I really like is that our DirecTV media connection is separate from the home network (Dual band)... very cool.

Cons: No cons...

4 out of 5 eggsgood AP

This review is from: D-Link Cloud Router 2500 (DIR-836L), Wireless N750, Dual-Band, Gigabit Ports, USB SharePort, mydlink enabled

Pros: Easy to set up. Pretty standard D-link menus and options.

The coverage for 2.4Ghz is much improved over my old DGL4300 802.11g at the same "medium" power level. I get coverage in the back yard where I barely got coverage before. The 5GHz (350 MBs) link is awesome for watching HD content from my HTPC on my tablet, even upstairs from the router.

Sleek/modern look, minimal blinky lights (only one constant green light when powered), so makes it pretty much invisible in my media center. Even when you see it, the cylindrical shape kinda camouflages it.

Cons: The usb HDD share option only works for a narrow range of HDD's and android/IO clients. This is clearly stated by several reviews, and is in the documentation details, if you do your homework. I knew this when I bought it, but I still knock it one egg for not supporting windows. I would have used this functionality if it did.

Other than that, it would be great if it would make me eggs in the A.M. ;-p

Other Thoughts: Please note: I have NOT used this as a router. I turned all router functions off and I am using it as a switch/wireless AP ONLY. Having said that, the menus appear to offer essentially the same QoS/prioritization options as my DGL4300, maybe in different places, called different names, but for me it made more sense to leave the 4300 in the closet as the main router (with wireless disabled), and put this one out near my TV/HTPC for better wireless coverage throughout my house.

I immediately upgraded the firmware. I recommend you do the same.

I never use the "set up for dummies" wizards, since I have been setting up home networks for 15 yrs plus.

So far, so good. Hopefully it lasts as long as my DGL4300 (6+ yrs and still going strong) and is as reliable.
