4 out of 5 eggsPOE

Pros: - 8 port unmanaged switch.
- 4 ports are powered (POE).
- Solid metal case.
- No fan.
- front face of the switch has multiple LEDs providing information relating to status of each ethernet port.

Cons: - This is NOT a gigabit switch, only 10/100. At this price point the switch should be a gigabit.
- ONLY 4 ports are powered.
- Not wall-mountable.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this switch to power 2 network cameras (TrendNet model TV-IP320PI2K) through POE. The switch works well to supply power to my cameras. I do not route any other traffic through it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Works as advertised.

Cons: -I wish the device was power outlet was two-prone, but I had an adapter around anyways.

Other Thoughts: I would fully recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap PoE (Power over Ethernet) connector for their PoE device. I used mine for two cameras, and it worked flawless out of the box. I would recommend though, that you research PoE switches if you only have one PoE device (cheaper).

4 out of 5 eggsWarranty issue - update

Pros: This is an update to my previous review. I still say when it works it works well and it worked well for two and a half years before it failed. Trendnet initially did not want to honor the 3 year warranty but has since issued an RMA so the unit is being repaired/replaced.

Cons: premature failure

1 out of 5 eggsWarranty issue.

Pros: when it works, it works

Cons: Trendnet does not want to honor warranty

The unit was installed into a production environment in April of 2012 and had been working flawlessly for 2+ year driving three Trendnet POE Access points. About a month ago on of the APs stopped working. A power cycle of the SP44 revived the wireless network until a few days ago. Users started complaining of slow wireless and desktop access. This time a power cycle of the SP44 did not revive the network. The unit came back with all lights blinking every 2 seconds. A call to Trendnet support was quickly answered and I was directed to request an RMA. The RMA was rejected with the reason "serial number provided is our of warranty". I though warranties stared with date of purchase.

We will see if Trendnet reconsiders after I pointed out that warranties start with retail purchase.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We apologize for the experience you had with your warranty claim. The warranty period does start from the date of purchase. Our RMA department may base warranty eligibility on the serial number if your submission did not include a copy of a dated invoice. They should have asked for one if there was any issue. Please email Adrian@trendnet.com with a copy of the invoice and your contact information. We will make sure your issue is taken care of.

Regards,

Adrian

5 out of 5 eggsTeleworker Rockstar

Pros: Quick and easy to setup, extremely quiet and gives off very little heat, colored faceplate to highlight the PoE ports, PoE load indicator to confirm available power for additional devices

Cons: None to date

Other Thoughts: I purchased this switch to replace my PoE injectors for my IP telephones. I am now using this switch to power my Mitel 5340 and 5360 IP phones. The Mitel phones with backlit displays have no issues with the power provided. I am also powering a Xirrus XR-620 AP without any issues. According to the PoE MAX indicator, I still have at least 7.5 Watts of power available on the last port. However, when both of my IP phones are not sleeping, the light will blink. I am sure that I am at the threshold of available power when all three devices are in full service. Not a bad replacement for three separate PoE injectors.

1 out of 5 eggsBRings down the entire LAN

Pros: Seems like a nice unit.

Cons: 3 minutes after plugging it in, the gig-e cisco router put that entire segment in error mode, have to reset the port with this device disconnected.

Other Thoughts: Since this is unmanaged, I cannot troubleshoot why it's bringing down the network. Cisco reports too many errors coming from this device.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Lethe,

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the TPE-S44. As an unmanaged switch there really shouldn’t be any issues. If this was a hardware failure on the switch causing it and not a connected device we would be more than happy to RMA the unit. Please email Adrian@trendnet.com and we will have someone assist you with a request for warranty services.

Regards,

Adrian

3 out of 5 eggsjust ok

Pros: Seems to pass data ok.

Cons: can't run more than 2 PoE devices even though it has 4 PoE ports. It doesn't have enough power.

Other Thoughts: I purchase two units, both have this same limitation.
This is costing me more money to have to buy injectors and other PoE switches.

1 out of 5 eggsNot so great

Pros: 4 PoE Ports which are still working

Cons: 4 standard ports...2 have failed.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this for a small church that needs all the ports working. Purchased from Newegg on 9/26/2012. I used to like TrendNet products but as of the last 2 years or so...it seems like all their products are being dumbed down or built just way to cheaply.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer, Please accept our deepest apologies for any inconvenience this has caused you. We believe your device qualifies a full replacement under TRENDnet's warranty program. Please contact us at sales@trendnet.com with "Newegg TPE-S44 Product Review" in the subject line and someone will assist you to go through the RMA process. 5 out of 5 eggsGreat little POE switch

Pros: Great little PoE switch. I using this switch to run three Vivotek IP8332 cameras.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've become a huge fan of PoE. Being able to just run a network cable has made it much easier to put the IP security cameras where I wanted them. Not just where they would be close to power.
