2 out of 5 eggsPass on this one

Pros: Win 8.1 compatible. Portable.

Cons: Slow as molasses in January. How they think it gets 300Mbps is beyond me. I've never seen it go beyond 56Mbps and it typically sits in the 5-13Mbps range. Like others have said it disconnects often. It's doing it as I'm typing here (at 5.5Mbps). If it's having a good day, it'll stay connected and have reasonable (but not full) speeds. But, even still, if you reset the computer or it goes to sleep while it's plugged in, when the computer comes back up, your Internet will be disconnected. You have to unplug it and replace it to get it to work again. Even troubleshooting through Windows will not fix it. And yes, I have downloaded the latest software update.

Other Thoughts: Netgear really dropped the ball on this one. I didn't buy it through Newegg because I needed something the same day and this was the only NIC the store had that was Win 8 compatible (which also garners a "wha?"). The button on the side does absolutely zero unless you have the matching router and it doesn't seem to do much good with that from the other reviews I've read. The Netgear Genie is now telling me I am once again connected to the Internet...Joy.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing 2.4GHz performance - Drops connections

Pros: N300+N300 on 2.4GHz and 5GHz. USB port/ReadyShare. 4ea GB LAN ports. GB WAN port.

Cons: I've had this router for about 3 years and it has never worked well. It always drops the 2.4GHz connections and will not reconnect. The 5GHz connections work OK if you are close (20-30ft in near line of sight). This router does not work at all if used as the Gateway router (between the cable modem and a 2nd wireless router). If used as the Gateway, then ALL connections will drop after a day or two. Resetting, reflashing, etc. will not help. I have moved this router out of the gateway position and replaced it with a $20 TrendNet. I also used an AirLink101 router as gateways and never had the disconnect issues. I only use this router for 5GHz streaming. Connecting a USB flash drive to stream video over 5GHz works well.

I've had this router since v1.0.0.25 and upgraded thru every release and to the final v1.0.0.48 and unfortunately continued to have 2.4GHz connection drops and could not use the gateway. Don't use this Wireless AP for 2.4GHz - You'll be disappointed.

Only half a router.

Other Thoughts: In need of a reliable brand. I've received more bang for the buck, reliability and more satisfaction from cheap, no-name brands.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked like a charm while it lasted.

Cons: I am very disappointed with this product. It only lasted 2 months and i decided to check the reviews for this item only to find out it is normal for this device to completely stop working after 2 months.

Other Thoughts: The Netgear WNDA3100 n600 claims to be connected into the internet but my pc barely load simple webpages like newegg. All i see is a blinking amber light on my Netgear N600.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: What pros? I couldn't get it to work.

Cons: I would give it 0 stars if I could. I restarted the router, restarted my computer, pushed N connected over a dozen times and tried multiple times to connect to the router using the security code but I could not get this thing to work. I called Tech support and the only help that I got was to tell me that I put the security code in wrong. Definitely returning. This is perhaps one of my worse tech gear purchases ever.

Other Thoughts: May not bother to try Netgear products again.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry that support was unable to help you. We want to investigate your case and also give you the advanced help you need. Please email us with the case number and a copy and paste of your review at newegg@netgear.com.

1 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: When it worked it had great signal strength and speed and was pretty stable.

Cons: I've had it for just under six months and now it will sporadically drop connection. Any attempt to reconnect is useless because it will not detect any wireless networks unless you restart the PC.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Waste Your Time

Pros: Easy to set up.

Cons: Frequently and randomly drops signal.
After 3 months it died.

Other Thoughts: All wireless adapters have bugs but this one is just over the top bad.
I have had a TP-Link Adapter on my work from home PC for years.
I have had occasional issues with this one as well, but if you are looking for an alternative, try this one.

1 out of 5 eggsConsistently a failure

Pros: Works well enough...when it wants to.

Cons: This adapter inexplicably drops my connection at least once a week, after which it will fail to find any networks despite being detected by my computer. It displays a constant (non-blinking) orange light, and the Netgear genie software refuses to open (it will flash for a split second before closing). Occasionally, restarting my computer fixes the issue, but more often than not a re-installation is needed. Sometimes, even that does nothing; I simply have to wait until the adapter inexplicably begins to work again several hours later. It's a silly piece of work.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of garbage.

Pros: none.

Cons: It really worked great for the first 4 days of having it! Since then, I have reinstalled drivers and accompanying software many times and essentially every time my computer suspends or restarts it completely stops working again. Tons of people on various forums have had loads of problems with this thing. Never getting netgear again, hopefully I can still return it and move to another company. Incredibly frustrating.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsterrible

Pros: works great when it works

Cons: likes to drop the signal from the NetGear WNDR3800 Router.

Other Thoughts: I bought this thinking that since we have a NetGear Router, they should be able to connect AND stay connected. Sometimes it works flawlessly for days, but then just can't seem to stay connected for more than a few minutes. I'm trying to work from home and this is completely unacceptable.

I've been through the wringer with NetGear Support. First, I can't hardly understand the foreigners they have reading the cue cards/following the flow-chart for their extremely lame tech support. They even RMA'd the adapter. The second one is maybe a little better than the first, but still a loser.

Really odd thing is that my son has the exact same model and his performs flawlessly!

Won't be buying any more NetGear!

Sorry NetGear!

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize that support was unable to assist you and ask that you email us at newegg@netgear.com with a copy and paste of your review and any case numbers that you received from support.

4 out of 5 eggsMy First Foray into N-wireless

Pros: Good connection speeds
Good driver availability

Cons: Seems that connection drop-outs are all too common.
See Other Thoughts for more information.

Other Thoughts: I received this a a gift to replace my 802.11g adapter, and it worked just fine with G-wireless. Then my old G router died, and I got an N300 router.
The N300 router with this N600 adapter really improved my transfer rates: with my 50Mbps internet service, I went from ~20Mbps with my old adapter to ~50Mbps with the N600 adapter and the N300 router.
After a couple of weeks I started getting frequent connection losses. I found that by broadcasting my N 5GHz-band SSID, which I like to keep hidden for security, all of my 5GHz-band devices (this adapter, a couple of smartphones & a tablet) became much more reliable.
Since it affected all of my 5GHz-band usage, I have to think that this issue is more router related, than any trouble with the N600 adapter, but if you're experiencing drop-out problems, it might be worth a try.
I'm not too worried about anyone piggy-backing on my service, as my neighbors aren't close enough to receive the signal, and the WPA2 security would stop them, anyway.
